Crazy new IDEA for the Devs to ponder

Ok here's my crazy idea.
I was curious if it would be possible to link all the shards together.

I am calling this idea "Dungeon link"

Concept is very simple. There will be one dungeon for all connected shards. We can do a west coast, east coast thing if needed. So all the west coast shards would be under a one dungeon system.

Example.
If a guy in Pacific goes to Fel Destard and his friend on Sonoma goes to Fel Destard, they will meet in the dungeon. Only in the dungeon. When they leave the dungeon, they will go back to their respective shard Felucca. They will only be connected within the dungeons. Same goes for Trammel, etc.

Jack & Cokes bring enlightenment when playing UO!

Yea... WoW style cross realm instanced PvP.
It would not work with UO system. I mean how long does it take to do a char xfer? Would you like to wait for 1+ hour everytime you enter a dungeon? Even if they do away and spent all that time making this system possible. They will never ever make profits off selling xfer token ever again. So this request is basically asking a corporation to invest money knowing they will never ever make it back let along actually decrease their revenus.

No matter how good the concept sounds. If it wont increase the revenu it will not be done.

theoretically, something similar could be done for shards sharing the same server farm, with a facet accessible only by moongate. And, nothing would come out of it that wasn't on the character when they went in, except maybe some sort of marker telling the server to give them an "x" level reward, based on their gameplay inside (title deed, etc.).

IT would be a simple case of the mixed facet seeing the player, copying it into its database (or updating an existing copy), then logging the person out of their normal shard. If the person loses connection inside, that copy of them inside it disappears, and they have to reenter. When they return to their home shard, nothing actually leaves the shared facet, except their score for a potential reward (ToT/doom type point system, only for PvP, or points toward a collection). Since the combat would not be champ spawn oriented, you could have some of the rewards be things normally dropped by spawns (including the harrower's scrolls), only a LOT less common (say, 550k points for a random 120 PS, 800k for a +25 stats), etc. The ticket in could be 5 or 10 1 million GP checks marked as quest items and consumed, so it would be a gold sink (none of the reward items would be worth the gold spent in getting to the location enoguh times to earn it).

As long as you aren't actually MOVING the characters together (just using their "reflections" in the facet) it's very doable, and no concern over things like dupe exploits - while leaving normal character transfers untouched.

If I had the ability to PvP cross shards, I will never use xfer token ever again. And samething goes for MANY MANY PvPers.

Not sure if anyone's ever told you about WoW character transfers, but it can take up to 24 hours to get verified for a transfer...:yell:

And I am not sure if people have told you that cross realm instanced PvP in WoW is instant. Oh yea and I really like the idea how you stand in line waiting for PvP... It's like so realistic...

Battlegrounds for uo, would be pretty cool. But erhm maby its time for uo2 instead ? uo could use some kind of remake.

As someone stated, not a new idea, and also as stated, unless you're posting from the space station your posting name should be changed.

Personally, I'd prefer a complete set of lands for common/ community use. No houisng/ no vendors, no player trade window, etc, but a complete set of lands all can access from anywhere. It would "clean up" and address a lot of player requests. Based on size/ required effort, it likely wouldn't lend itself to a publish per se, but the "box" following the SA release seems a good target date to me!

I always thought thats how they should handle a shard closing (if they ever shut one down). Offer awesome benefits to coerce folks to leave then rubblize every bit of the whole shard and all facets. Then put up a moongate from all other shards and let us tear it down. This way the shard still exists you see... we all have a chunk of it.

...and THAT is why EA/Mythic will never add this. Shard Transfers is a steady money stream for them and they don't want to flush it down the toilet.

Absolutely, and in an era when generation of revenue either saves us or nails the coffin shut, more power to em! I don't think however, that carefully implemented commonly accessible lands necessarily precludes sales of transfer tokens. In a common land sans housing/ vendors and more importantly a player "trade window," my best bet is that both can mutually exist.

- Aye, I agree they could both coexist, if implemented properly.
By the by, I wonder what percentage of these transfer tokens have actually put money in UO's coffer...
(Think dupe & CC fraud re: that thought... :()

With all of the dupes that PAID shard Xfers have had, we DO NOT need a way to do it for free on demand.

Again, no player "trade windows." And frankly, duping, one of the two biggest "blights" on our game, needs to be handled decisively external to game expansions.

I mentioned UO doing something similar to wows pvp like capture the flag on here and got flamed like no tommorrow.
I love the idea though.
Esp if like in wow, theres really not much to lose in the instanced pvp games.
Might make more people actually pvp on this game.

My guild plays CTF sometimes. 5v5, 6v6, or 7v7 all it takes is a bit of imagination. UO is a sandbox game after all. You can play CTF(Warsong), resource nodes capturing (AB), or even siege (AV) if you really wanted to.

But I understand... its hard to find enough players to setup something fun. And since WoW is SOOOO freaking carebear, almost all sorts of griefing are bannable offense where UO is everything goes (at least on Fel).
