Hip hip hooray!
Boo!
I want to trust the Royal Council,
But all of them were just murdered, aside from Casca.
Rabble!
Yay!
Hmm... Just who is this new council that has elected our new ruler?

Where's that Inu crone at?
Should I love this Casca or should I remind myself of that irl THC tv stuff from last week about Armageddon.
Oh, but to be an indecisive commoner of Britannia. Yet I do wonder if perhaps we should: beware of the antilord?

An excellent question ... hmm ... not what if you happened to be a glorious lord or lady of the land and you were asked to participate in the discussion? Would you have supported him as a choice (given there is no real alternative)? Or would you have defied the will of your fellow nobles?

Or if not invited to participate, surely we would be expected to quickly and unreservedly make a show of loyalty to the new King. It would make for a very awkward situation if forced to choose been making an oath of loyalty while your heart was filled with great doubts or risking undermining the kingdom by leaving it leaderless and divided in this time of great peril (not to mention undermining your own life if the new King's and his court do not take kindly to guilds who hesitate to bow)

I will respect the Crown he wears and the Throne he sits in. Nothing more.

Then again I have experience in this - I live in An Tir in the SCA :p

Can we kill him?
Well, given that city guards are capable of 1-hit kills and even shopkeepers of cities rarely fear even the rowdiest patrons, it would appear that dragon-slaying adventurers are still no match for the royal court.

The Council of Mages is the only true ruling council of the realm and we reject any imposition by the corrupt Brittanian council to oppress the Magincia Congress.

*looks at the rubble* uh-hunh ... we'd give the Council of Mages the kingdom because they did just a good job of running their home town?

Re-read he was ambassador to the Royal Council not a member of it.

Know that the Royal Ambassador Casca

Obviously while we've been chasing slimes around they appointed a new council.....I say give him a fair shot, I mean the best he could do is outlaw insurance...at worst get assassinated.

Actually, I think he was on the council, as ambassador for the elves.
(From the trial of Ricardo: "Casca of Heartwood as the Plaintiff, representing the government of Britannia.")

He was (on the Council). And the others are all dead.

In other words, unless I missed something, Casca, in his capacity as the only-remaining member of the Royal Council, has appointed himself King.

If I missed something, someone please point it out.

It's kinda neat how many different reactions this has generated.

One reaction I heard last night, though, should be addressed. Someone was upset that this occurred in secret without the chance for player participation.

I find it likely, however, that this was done in secret for in-character reasons, and that the secrecy is part of the story. We have, in a sense, already participated in Casca's ascension.....By rescuing him from the FoA/Shadowlords.

Hey, EA.....Surely Dawn (the last we heard from any of you on her, she'd married and left public life to settle with her husband to a quiet life near Yew) would show her face by now, wouldn't she? Unless of course she got killed at some point too.

He'd get assassinated if he tried to outlaw insurance.

Kind of a "best of times, worst of times" thing goin' on with that.

The Royal Council never had the authority to appoint anyone, people.
The Great Council, of which Lord British, Lord Nystul, Lady Dawn, Lord Dupre, Lord Clainin, and the other great heroes of Brittania were part of held that authority. A bunch of landowning ponces have no right to declare our supreme overlord.

I shalt not ever support any man or woman whom has not been voted for by the loyal citizens of Britian. I call ALL Memebrs of the Royal Guard and anyone else, farmers, crafters, tradesmen of the sorts, bring your picks, shovels, and sheperds crooks. Time for us to stand up for our beloved lands and take control of the kingdom.

It might end with 'if it wasn't for you darn kids I would have got away with it!' ... That'd be great.

I think the story arc IMO would make more sense if they gave us a general plot (like a foreshadowing event) that doesn't involve spoilers that would give us some insight on what to expect.

Not that it's hard to understand but the characters are completely in the shadows and theres absolutely no hint or reason behind the motivations *yet* and no real connections between characters have been established.

And I think it would be nice if they gave us a book at the advacement of each story arc that summarizes the last part of the story (so players aren't confused) as well as a foreshadowing of events to come for the next part of the arc.

The land needs a king and for many a year we have gone without. I cannot say that I am without concerns nor have I been to the castle since his rescue, but our defences against these repeated incursions is floundering without strong leadership. In this dark time is there anyone with more right or aptitude than Casca who would step forward? Can any loyalist of the kingdom say why we should deny Casca our loyalty?

katherinepgoh's concerns about the powers of the Royal Council vs the Great Council is the only fly in the ointment I can see ... but unless I'm mistaken, not one of those heroes is present to choose?

Uh, when was the last time you voted for a Monarchy?

LB left the council in charge in his absence with the power to do pretty much what they want. They made Casca King....end of story no votes required.

UK, Canada, Australia and Japan are all monarchies. ok,ok, I know you meant monarch, not monarchy ... but depending on how far one takes the "unitary executive" interpretation of the US constitution, one could argue the US President is actually an elected monarch in all but name.

very unsure about this new king (the following from an account here )

[SIZE=-1][SIZE=-1]“Citizens of Britannia!”

“In honor of the founding of the Royal Council, set forth by that great hand that united our peoples, we announce a festival of frivolity, a commemoration of friendship amongst the cities of Britannia! From the shores of New Haven, onto the walls of Trinsic, and even as far as the colonies of Malas shall the celebration pour forth!

These shall be days in which no work shall be performed except that which is needful. All are invited to attend the opening fireworks in Castle British, and transportation to further festivities will be provided at no expense to our guests!”

There was a guffaw and a clap, and Casca quickly rolled the parchment back together.

“That ought to keep them busy for a bit, eh?” one of the men said.

Casca smiled.

But was not the best thing to do at the time? To cheer up the populace with festivities in a time when spirits were growing dark and heavy? To distract them from brooding?

distract them from something, Maplestone, oh yes...

I agree with Galen, the good Dawn must be done having babies by now :D

and I would follow Avery into any battle

but no, I do not think I shall call Casca 'king'
