Clarification from the Dev Team

Hey Draconi,

Can we get a clarification from the Dev Team as to what can be dyed? You didn't intend for Swampie armor to be dyed: not by slimes, nor by Tokuno Dyes. What about furniture deeds, like Abbatoirs, that are made out of enhanced woods? How about Enhanced Bone Armor?

This sort of information just seems like it would be common sense to include at the time of the patch's release, not days after people spend a ton of gold getting items that will end up reverted to worthlessness. I didn't use any of the barding deeds myself, nor did I make any. But I feel bad for those people that did and will end up losing out because of yet another poor job by the dev team.

i dont' think i'd say that they did a poor job. there will always be people who will look for the loop holes no matter how small and timy, and there will always be people who will exploit it for monetary benefit. just because someone did that, i don't think it its a "poor job". no code is 100% proof solid.

Its definitely a poor job. They failed to code correctly, then failed to test correctly, then failed to communicate the cans and can'ts of what could be dyed and what couldn't. I guess in EA speak that wouldn't be considered doing a poor job. But in most of the real world of business, it surely is.

Yes, no code is 100% perfect. However, a short paragraph when the patch was released specifying what COULD be dyed would have put the burden of responsibility on the user since they would have been informed of what should be happening in advance instead of days and days after the fact.

"Only blah, blah, blah and blah can be dyed with these slimes. Any other items dyed in this manner may end up reverted. Dye outside of this list at your own risk."

Simple and to the point.

Also, I didn't see the devs mention that they were reverting all of the house add ons back to normal wood as well. Are they waiting to post that fact next week to give people a chance to waste money on these items? You would think they would have made both announcements at once. Then again, see above comments regarding the 'poor job'.

why would they revert house addons? They've been dyeable for ages - they didn't become accidentally dyeable with this last patch =)

That's sort of the issue, isn't it? No players knows every little detail of the game.

Until this slime event came out, I didn't stop and think about what all I could dye. When it was released, I stopped to consider what might look cool were it to be dyed. Of course, some players (*cough* mutua *cough*) who will represent that as looking for loopholes. Is it really? This game is vast and there's plenty that even 11-year players such as myself don't know about.

Exactly. Poor communication and poor coding and poor testing is a recipe for disaster. As shown by just about every patch this most recent dev team has put out.

Many people are losing faith in the team and won't even bother logging on after a patch goes in because they pretty much know that a new thing will pop up that will either cause them to lose valuable items or even full characters.

Being able to dye barding deeds from slimes is brand new. But that's illegal. Being able to dye house add on deeds from slimes is brand new. But that's legal. How are people supposed to know what they should or shouldn't be able to do with this clearly incapable dev team puts something out?

Everyone pops up with 'no patch is perfect' as their way of staying on the dev team's (and stratic team's) good side. Well, duh. Of course its not. But when you KNOW that fact and you KNOW that your team is one that makes more than a common amount of errors each and every time they code something, don't you think that you would put in a place a means of communicating what players can expect to be able to do and what they aren't expected to be able to do when a new patch goes into the game? Common sense.

This is just another example of the inconsistency that this current dev team displays on a regular basis.

I hope your one of them and you stop posting...

It was the holidays, the dyeing of swamp armour was an unforeseen event that some people (i still cant get over why) decided to shell out hundreds of thousands for. once the bug was made aware (and the holidays were over) it was fixed. Sorry you spent so much gold on a disgusting looking neon barding deed and now feel stupid!

I actually think that they have been doing a good job at stimulating the game again and hope they continue there work unphased by people who will moan at every single thing they say or do!

I think somewhere along the line players need to take responsibility for their own actions.

EA can do a lot to stop bugs, but there will be times when a player works up something unexpected and players around him have to use their own discretion to decide if they'll do the same.

Sadly with this particular misadventure, players were too keen to dye their swampies neon and didn't notice Sak posting or pay attention to the warnings that others posted. It's not always down to EA to hold a player's hand and stop them doing something stupid. If it was, my bard would be locked up for her own safety...

I notice a real difference in how gullible players can be these days though. I was one of the first folks who pulled up a vine from the thorn planting. It took 3 of us ages to sell that vine, players were outright accusing us of cheating and some colourful things too :D Finally we got one guy who looked on the net to see if what we said sounded feasible and he bought the thorn. I'm sure I'd sell the same thorn in minutes nowadays.

Right, we wouldn't, you've been able to do that forever.

Swamp dragons, though, were broken by accident, and unlike nice, private housing decorations, can be mobile neon assault weapons on the eyes.
