Thieves have two forums because PvP Thieves are traditionally EXTREMELY hostile towards their non-PvP counterparts, and we had to SPLIT them into two forums (in just the last couple weeks) to stop the abuse. In fact, the old forum's Thief forum pretty much told the non-PvP Thieves they were not welcome under any circumstances, and to go to the rares forum for help IN ITS DESCRIPTOR LINE - help the rares people weren't equipped to give.
Even Stratics cant control the whiners...
Lets face it, a thief is a thief.
The mighty Zigzag has caved.

SOoooo...Now we have a precedent, can we PLEASE change back to seperate shard forums? Trade forums? ALL skill forums?

It's fine, leave it be. No one cares.
We already have separate shard and trade forums anyways...as for skill forums, it's separated well enough to take into account all skills.
Now where was I...

a) Welcome to like 2 weeks ago. You missed the gaint thread about it then.

b) I honestly think that the non pvp thief forum should just be merged with rares collector, cause thats what they do. They pick rare items off off the ground with a skill. PVP stealing is an entirely different (and the origional breed) of animal.

- They are certainly an (ab)original breed...

I was even a participant once. But I, simply, could not bring myself to take from other players' enjoyment enough to become an accomplished aboriginal thief. I guess I'm not cut out to be a thief because I actually felt bad knowing I swiped something that someone else spent a lot of time to get. Thus once soulstones arrived, that is where that 'skill' went, for me.

(When things significantly changed, I was not much of a rares-seeking grab-the-recurring static items either; although I say more power to those that choose to try to grab those artifacts. I grabbed way too many dailies ~candles, fruit baskets, chairs, and such... So when they implemented the micro game of time&grab - I just lost interest in trying to compete with the timers as I'd already had my fill of beating the bots, by observing their blatant ignorance and dealing with it. Fun thing is, you can beat the bots if you want to put that extra, legitimate, time into the whole thing).

Arrrr, it be like takin' hardtack from a baby!
Hardtack??

This land lubber' is not making much sense as usual.
Hardtack was a very hard bread that was used as both a travel ration for overland journeys, and also as rations for onboard ship, several hundred years ago. Hardtack, dried meat of some type, dried fruit, and a wax covered wheel of cheese were the staples of travelers for hundreds of years, if not longer.

I agree. It is sad and a thief is a thief. I think some people need to get down off the high horse and grow up already.

I wouldn't pluralize the matter......in my opinion, it boiled down to one individual who made the most stink about what defines a chatacter as being a thief.

Seems, everytime a thief went to the forum, looking for advice on stealables, a moderator, who likes to emitt a sound of " la"........would reprimand the poster and tell them to post elsewhere......(dude needs a life)

Regardless, I find this to be the cause of the segregation, and feel thieves who go after stealables to be discriminated against, by stratics.

I will now return to my shadowed cover and resume spitting on myself...(thank you stratics)

Have you actually read anything in the new forum where Stratics is 'discriminating against' pvm thieves? There are no 'stickies'? no helpful threads? no questions answered?

I was told by the Mod for the Thief forum to go to either the Rares forum or the T-Hunter forum for any questions regarding anything OTHER than PvP thieving.

Neither of those forums has any information, much less even any mention, of anything related to the topic.

So to answer your question, yeah, I have.

Thanks wiki! :lick:

And I have to disagree. Dungeon collectors are not thieves, but I don't think they should have a separate forum, especially when there is a rares forum already.

While we are handing out forums though, can we please have the detectives forum back?

I'll moderate!

If you use the Stealing skill to "steal" something, it doesn't matter where, what, or who from, you're a Thief. Stealing is stealing. To top it off, PvM thieves now even have "marks" to steal from instead of stealing from a location.

but I don't think they should have a separate forum, especially when there is a rares forum already.
Rares are just that, rares. Dungeon stealables are not rares, and aren't even remotely related to the items that are discussed in the Rares forum.

What skill do you need to be able to grab the artifact rarity items in Doom and Tokuno?

What is the title for Legendary, Elder and GM of this skill?

I'd be all for a new Rare Collector title btw...

say if you aren't in a certain guild?

You do realize that by creating more threads on this subject you are only feeding the negative attention [some] people desire right? When you pay attention to negative behavior the only thing you get is more of the same.

What's done is done. You may not like it or agree with it. Trust me, many opinions have been shared on this but the best overall decision was made FOR a community. Notice how the trolls want to come out to play on the UO Thief forums because there is no longer anyone to throw spitballs at in the PvP one and then promptly removed.

This kind of attitude is what caused the need for a split. Bottom line is the Thief forum should be for the discussion of the stealing skill and it's uses. If some people don't agree with the way others use the skill there's no need for the hostility that was filling the forum, they could simply pass by the threads they didn't want to read. Instead of a peaceful solution, the members (backed up by the mod) told the non-pvp thieves to leave and treated them like crap. The whole "pvp thieves are the only real thieves" attitude is antiquated and ridiculous. The skill and it's uses have changed, and some people either need to adapt and accept that fact, or learn to keep their bad attitudes to themselves.

When the termites begin to infest your house do you just move to another one, or do you exterminate the termites?

When some low-life scum set up a meth lab in a neighborhood... should the good folk leave or should the crack-heads be run out?

If you draw a line in the sand... and someone steps over. Then you move the line just a little more to avoid conflict... guess what... now they're gonna jump over the line and all over you!

If there is any truth to the statements that the moderator actually participated and encouraged attacks/flames/trolls against the Non-PvP theives, then that moderator needs to have his privileges revoked period.

I think you have to write a declaration of independence or something along those lines.

Oh, and you need to get lots of smart guys in white wigs to sign it.

And I have to disagree. Dungeon collectors are not thieves...
I wonder if any of the PvP Theives get the fact that some folks look at Stealing as a skill in the game. So... those folks just want to be able to ask questions about that skill just like everyone else.

Trying to draw a distinction between "dungeon stealing" and PvP stealing is kinda like kicking Paladins out of a Warriors forum... because they use spells (and thus should be in the mages forum).

Considering that ALL CLASSES of thieves are a minorty on these boards.

Considering that after the crash many useful forums disappeared entirely.

There is NO EXCUSE for one tiny group of people to be able to get an entire forum created based on such a fine distinction.

We have forums where folks don't even share the same skill sets and here people that all use the STEALING skill have two forums.

I'm not complaining because they have two forums. I'm upset at the WAY they got those forums... by bullying the other members of this board.

Anyone else agree with me on this?

So, Siege Perilous gets two forums?

You alchemists all deserve to hang! You'll have your war! The entire city of Luna has been destroyed by ants because of your reckless disregard for the natural order!

*draws a line in the sand* (one of the kinds of lines that doesn't get moved)

*A shadowy figure appears next to Sam*

"Akira, good... go find this Cear... Make him understand that Alchemy is wrong... you know how..."

Akira nods. "I'll find him... oh and I think he pronounces his name 'Sayer' to confuse folks as to his true identity."

A wolf appears where Akira was standing and it runs quickly into the forrests of Minoc.

UO has many subcutures, some more prickly than others. Even though we log into the same servers with the same clients, we don't all play the same game. Despite the anti-social way this all came about, I think it's fair to say there are two completely incompatible gameplay styles at work with enough people in each camp that putting them in the same box is just going to set fur flying.

Basically,. the stealing skill (and its forum) has undergone it's own little version of Tram/Fel split. It's happened before, it is bound to happen again some day with other communities. Perhaps some day farming systems will be added that will make dragon tamers frustrated with sharing a forum with sheperds and cattle ranchers will demand a split of the taming forum.

The PvP thieves stole a forum ... surely there are some style points for that?

I steal at champs on fel and trammel, I steal from monsters and players, I steal vases and paintings and boat keys.

To make a living as a thief nowadays you have to use your skill in many ways.

Where shall I go?

......

but then I never have questions anyway because I have been thieving for 10 years.

...and still detest a thief with an attitude.

Note, here is what happened with the release of AoS.

Thieves that were not PvP types tried to use the Thief forum, got routinely attacked and ridiculed. The following then became the title of the UO Thief forum (the first line was original, going back several years - the "Please Note" part was added to show their hostility of the non-PVP types).

The Thief Forum description, from shortly after AoS, right up to the "Big Oops" at our 3rd party host back in Spring of this year, was of -
You should be glad I took that from your pack, someone could have stolen it. **PLEASE NOTE** The focus of this forum is on PvP based thievery. For discussions on non-PvP stealing such as town chests and Doom, please use the UO Rares Collector forum.

Note that the Rares Collectors had no advice to give, not having thieving (the closest they got were SELLING high-end stealables, and duping eventually made that non-existent). There wasn't any advice to be had in the Treasure Hunters forum, either.

My personal option was that there should only be 1 Thief forum, and it be a NON-PVP one - with the PvP Thieves using the existing forums for PvPers (the opposite of what previously existed). after all, PvP Thieving is a subset of PvP, is it not? It surely is closer tied to PvP than non-PvP thieving is to any OTHER non-PvP profession....
