That website is mildly broken.

If you will notice: on the front page at current are several news posts that have a nice, bold "More..." link in the lower-right corner that lead to the direct location of those news posts. If you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see a "View News Archives" link that allows you to view past news posts. These past posts are supposed to all have the aforementioned "More..." link, but, suddenly and inexplicably, none of them possess such a thing. This results in users being utterly unable to access any of the old news posts, many of which maintained their actual news only at these links, without editing the numbers directly in the url, which are frequently unintuitive and out of order due to user error when entering the news posts to begin with.

If someone could look into this problem at some point, it would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Your Oft' Neglected UO Playerbase

A lot of it is broken. I wish they had left it the way it was before Jeremy took over.
You have to dig for the [search] box for instance, making things hard to look up. Many (too many) of the links are broken. etc.
True the information held within needed to be updated, but the layout and location of things (to look up) should have been left alone.

Getting that website (er ... the many websites chained together that make it up) back up to snuff would be a full time job, possibly several full time jobs, not something to be done on the side. Unfortunately, it's one of those questions of where you get the most bang for the buck - documentation vs development.

With EA/Mythic cutting jobs as it is, I doubt anyone will be assigned the task of maintaining the website.

just go to google and type "site:uo.com google" and you will see that this is what UO Devs recommend.

"Where is the "search" button on www.uo.com?"
Currently, as you might have noticed, there isn't one. The old search tool is present on all of the old pages (so, every page but the feedback form page), but the nature of that tool is such that we can't get it to search the new content - it will only search the older content. The website is, as always, a work in progress, and we're looking at ways to get a unified search function.

In the meantime, much of the content that is going up on the front page will also get added to the old pages, which are accessible through the left navigation. Update Center has the links to the Five on Friday archives, TC patch notes, and live patch notes. The BNN is alive and well in the Community category under "Game Fiction".

The whole website is easily searchable due to the miracle of Google, as well :) Just type site:uo.com (or site:uoherald.com) before adding your search terms, and Google will do its thing exclusively on the UO site .
it also helps searching Stratics and UOGuide. Stratics probably has the worst search engine in the history of the internet.

I don't even go to the main pages of any of the sites except UOHerald. what Jeremy designed is just fine, it is a tool for them to break news.

also keep in mind Google works (partially) by "learning" where relevant things are located. the more people that use Google to search these sites the better the search results will be.

Thanks for pointing this out! I will let the web team know about this and see about getting it fixed when everyone is back at work on Monday. :)

There is an easier way... break down and use the UO Toolbar. ;)

just go to google and type "site:uo.com google" and you will see that this is what UO Devs recommend.
Excellent tip, this is an easy way to search an entire site. This is what the UO Toolbar does, and the UO Toolbar search is powered by Google.

it also helps searching Stratics and UOGuide.
This may help...

Thanks Joanne, it'll be good to have the search working and easily accessible. :)
