I thought you could turn on and off tree canopies in a config file but I can't locate it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you need the uo.cfg file, which since publish 57 is saved in the EA folder in 'my documents'.
Desolation = off
Tree canopies = on.

Also, Petra's info is for the 2D client.
If you are running KR (you didn't say which client you are running)...
Menu>User Settings>Graphics Tab
check or un-check the "Show Foliage" box for your preference.
