Blackrock is broken

Has anyone else noticed that since publish 56 they have not been able to blackrock infect anything? I carry blackrock around on all my chars and have yet to infect anything at all since the publish. Usually I'll infect a chicken or something at least.. but nothing.. nothing at all lately.

Has anyone else noticed this as well? And was this something that was intended to happen or just another glitch in the matrix?

yes, unless my black-box-collector has had a publish-long run of bad luck, I've noticed it too - I wonder if it was deliberate or a consequnce of making them insurable? (I haven't tested with a newly-dug-up piece).

Yep, I've noticed it too. I hung onto 2 large pieces of BR since they "used" to be the only ones that were insurable just so I could infect everything around me, including invasion monsters....

Nothing for some time now.

A few days ago a girz turned red but did not have the [Blackrock Infected] tag. The corpse was normal also, not etheral.

Yes. Somewhere down around 1/20th the rate of ML gems (rough estimate based on a my experiences of pub 56)

It has been since Publish 56 for me too. I have not been able to get a BR since. I don't need to carry any on me because I blew myself up with it. I used to get 4 to 6 infected monsters every day. Now I get nothing.

I believe the infecting will be broken until the invasion is over (no general blackrock boxes )guess my vanguard controller box is going to be the best one i have so far and ill have to put my blackrock infected ancient on hold (have every cold blood atm cept ancient and shadow)

There is no point really, just adds a nice touch to pvm never knowing if your going to turn a monster (and some NPC chars...i have a wandering healer!!)into a blackrock beasty (Basically paragon)

Same ive been collecting (Blackrock cursed and usually keep blackrock on me and hunt in fel(Seems to be a higher infection rate))

My personal favorite are the ones from the ML dungeons and locations. Hydra's etc. The best one I ever saw was one a guild member found on the ground next to the moongate from lady Mel. That was a sweet find. I guess there were only a few days where it was possible to infect peerlesses. So I wouldn't be shocked if it was the only one or one of very few ever received.

My top 2 boxes are a Berserker Daemon and a Doom Guardian. The Doom Guardian box is probably one of only a couple, if even that many, in the entire game since they could only be obtained during the Vanguard invasion. Nothing in Doom can be infected and that's the only place they've ever been seen outside of it.

To the person who asked what the point of them are, outside of being a very unique collectible, along with the increased challenge of some of the monsters, they make nifty storage as you can see here:

Each one of these boxes are unique, so that's a lot of infecting you see there.

Like paragons, if the creature has a chance of dropping a map, it drops a chest instead. But in this case it's a small black box labelled for the creature which dropped it.

So my take on it, is it makes paragons in non-Ilsh areas, and without the chance of dropping minor artifacts.

I still haven't been able to infect anything. My guess is that it's still broken.

Oh, and the BR infected creatures aren't quite paragon strength. Close, but they're a little weaker.

Shouldn't be any difference. But technically the smaller pieces were noted to be more important.

Although I wonder...if you're infected, you don't need blackrock in your bag to infect monsters. So if you are infected and carry blackrock, are the chances greater? And if you carry even more blackrock, do the chances stack?

I'm just gonna carry around a small piece then (1 stone vs 12 stones). I kinda want to infect myself but I don't want to mess up guild outings with unexpected super evil.

This may have been to do with the mysterious merchant tradein that led up to the destruction of old Haven - the small mined-up pieces were more valuable than the large chunks mined up in the Lost Lands.

I've often wondered if they are going to be a special ingredient in SA.

As a system, I always liked blackrock infection - you actually had to carry something to trigger an encounter type. I would also make an interesting test for a quest system trigger that spawned special quest-specific mini-boss creatures. Rather than going and finding the boss, you just find a spawn of the right monster with the quest item in your pack and a boss can spawn.

It used to be that only the large pieces could be insured, but that's been changed and now any size can.

75 Unique Blackrock infected boxes...plus my white chest collection and the new holiday boxes.

The box with the most in it is obviously daemons. I think someone that has all these would have quite an acomplishment.

For what purpose? And how would they relate turning off infection to the story line?

Plus, I can still cast Armageddon therefore it shouldn't be deactivated.

The spawn of BRE's was turned off, but nothing was ever mentioned regarding being able to infect random creatures.

Maybe if they turn this back on they can fix or up the rate, of the Berserker Scythe.
