Why the rare ore and wood spawn change ?

Just would like to know why did they change the spawn for ore and wood ? It can't be to nerf scripters because it does just the opposite so no one but a scripter could spend the time it takes to find the rare ores and woods.

Exactly.

The casual player doesn't have time to spend the day hunting for a particular ore/wood type. I guess the devs didnt like the fact that a casual player could log in, recall to a known vein, and get what he needed. Now, you buy em from the scripters, cause the bots are the only ones who can spend the time to get materials these days.

In truth, it's probably because EA had this change on the horizon many, many years ago, and someone at EA found the source code for it and said, "Here's a way to make it look like I've done some work."

Because otherwise, from a gaming perspective, there's no logical reason to do it EXCEPT to screw over the casual player.

Did I mention that the system is borked and does not work as it was explained to? There are periods of time when the overall levels of the rarest ore types are below a minimum threshold (ie: what used to be present), and so literally, some resources flux into and out of the ability to be reasonably gathered.

I say, Prospectors tools and Gargoyle Axes, for everyone, or at least ONE way to bump the wood levels.

OOOHHHH, the Gargoyle Axe, could spawn a treefellow of the appropriate wood type, with 25 logs of said wood type.

Ya used to mine all the ore and chop my own trees back before they did this, now I just go farm gold and buy off folks in Luna what I need. Far easier to just buy the ingots I need or color boards then it is to run around like a bot.

Exactly! I used to enjoy both cutting wood and mining/stone collecting. Now it's a waste of my time. I spent a LOT of time finding the ore and wood and marking it. I don't wish to waste even more time chasing after the elusive butterfly any longer. They ruined that part of the game for me.

aye EA has ruined the casual LJ and miner in the game.

It was trying to stomp out scripting. Now we all buy our stuff from scripters while complaining that scripters are runing thy game... The circle is now complete :D


I like mining as much as thy next person but isn't that really nerf anymore?

Developers claim they did the change because MAYBE some day they change crafting. They had/have some ideas but no plan to implement it and decided to make the change on the chance they might want to make the change.

1. DEVs changed game mechanics to favor scripting.
2. DEVs refuse to take actions to prevent scripting.
3. DEVs possibly have friends/relatives who have a secondary income scripting.

Just a theory.

Too much GM time was spent on having to respond to complaints from people watching the valorite or frostwood spots and reporting.

So EA came out with a model that spread the macroers thin, instead of having them all compete over a few spots with the complainers paging so much, they let the macroers script anywhere they want to and now nobody is paging GMs anymore because they can't find them.

Less complaining customers, less GM support time, less paying customers they have to ban ... win win win for EA.

I'm pretty independent and hate to buy resources off of other players if I can gather them on my own. I mean why should I if I have the means to do so? Oh yeah, I'm sick of carpel tunnel syndrome...that's why I should buy from vendors.

I sure don't enjoy mashing last action key combo for 5 hours to get 200 Yew logs or Val ingots. I spent a LOT of time making runebooks to spots where I could mine and hack away for wood, get done with the crafting mess and then go about having fun. No problem. Now? The rune books are useless, gathering resources is as much fun as eating gravel and glass on an empty, ulcerated stomach with habanero extract for a chaser. Another nail in the UO coffin? I honestly would like to know who the bright mind is behind this.

I guess I'll continue playing a tamer and forget the rest of it! Yeeeeeah...that's the ticket! Yuck. =P

I dont really think that would be it. Reasons why is I gathered valorite and frostwood and rarely had anyone at the few spots I used. I only had about 4 of each type val , frostwood , bloodwood , shadow , and was able to continuosly recall around w/o any competition are wait for respawn.

It's to make the rare resources actually rare instead of 3rd book on the 2nd row ;)

The scripters infect just about everything in UO now, but they are easier to spot now as anyone with sense wouldn't keep recalling like a nut.

I always mined and collected lumber locally, never had the fancy resources unless by some fluke the bots weren't at the tree or ore spots I had runes for :D In all honesty this is much better for players who strip mine by their homes for example, now they get the true mix of resources. I love it. It's just not suited to the dial-an-ore miners who don't yet know why the resources should be rare and just want their valorite.

...and now all the scripters have to do is the same thing, mine one area, cross a server line, recall to the start point, rinse/repeat instead of recalling to known static areas making themselves obvious. ;) I do agree with you though on one point, at least there is a chance on the larger servers to get ore now but it still is an inconvenience to the casual gamers who have limited time and gold.

I don't know about everyone else but when I get home from work, I want to relax, not get the urge to set my head on fire and put it out with a pick-axe because I have to mine for 5 hours just to get a few "rare" resources to fill a couple of BODs. If they know who is scripting, just do the obvious and ban them for good and get it over with instead of playing grab butt for years. Oh wait, I'm sorry I was having a dream where EA isn't afraid of having some stones or actually giving a hoot. Silly subconscious mind...

It was changed in preparation for Stygian's Abyss which was meant to be released ages ago, but was postponed. So now we have an out of whack tree system until dearest EA decides to give us SA. What they plan to do with it in SA beats me, but that I believe was the plan.

Because wood and ores have rarity.
Logging in and going to your 10 rune books of frostwood is silly.

Ore should run out and trees get chopped down.

I don't understand how anyone can think randomizing wood types is Favoring scripters.

ScripterX prior - 40+ runes marked to frostwood trees cycling through them 23.5 hours a day.

ScripterX now - Can't cycle at all, has to have a script smart enough to roam around tap-testing trees (which most can't write) and exponentially increase the chances something will flub their script and leave them stuck in place or doing something pointless.

So big bad news for the lumberscripters.


Living players - most of them were recalling too, but also roaming to find more spots (specially given the competition for the known spots by Scripters!) so less changed for them.
And of course it is rather hard to fool a Living Player into standing in one place for 12 hours with a bagball and a wooden box. ;)


IMO they should have randomized the spawns the day they put in color ores. It was never intended that we have rune libraries full of Valorite spots to just jump straight to and mine dry.
If that were the way it was supposed to be, they would have simply added shovels for each ore and sold them at the tinker shops, letting you mine anywhere to get the ore you wanted.


The change means a lot more work replacing the talismans that vanished while I was away, but if it screws with the scripters, I love it!



Now all they have to do is remove the 3-minutes after release ownership flag from pets. That way I'll stop getting counts for renaming "a greater dragon"s to "a polar bear" and releasing them for the script-tamer-trainers to Anger. ;)

due to script wood choping and junk is why but thats doesnt stop them dude they still getting the wood even if it takes longer its still being scripted and moved so the simple fix would be to cha=ge hues of items each day and other items to make a patch and thus killing easy uo i mean i guess its too simple for the dev team to figure out u need a hand? dumb butts i swear it would be so easy to fix if your a long time player u member each and every day there was a patch and no scripting was happeing and now look its all u see peps afk macroing everything they can and makeing mass amount of gold thus killing the game and the only thing they care on is chargeing u card each month and its a crock !!! if u go to an asain sharsd and find a macroer u just page few min later poof theres a gm asking if there there and most times there not and whamo banned!!! wake up ea for u lose every one who play the game
