That you cant acquire max luck without having a very old account?

Oh it's fair.. why not complain about skill/stat point caps for old players? Those have much more relevance than luck. Damn.

Personally, I think the greater problem with Luck remains that it runs COMPLETELY counter to the original notion of "risk vs reward" since the templates that best utilize the Luck mod are those that completely mitigate the "risk" factor by being a "background" template (bard, tamer, etc) that does NOT get directly involved in the risk of actual combat.

But that's just me... as it is, most loot is merely scrap these days and will be even moreso once Embueing is ingame and people build high end specialized crafters that use Runics and Embues to crank out MUCH better items than you see in general PvM loot, Luck or no.

No it isnt fair.

720 skill points for 4 yr vets versus 700 skill points for new players isnt fair too.
High time someone brought this up, and furthermore, if Mythic doesn't install an "I Win UO" button on the SA interface, then I'm just going to quit. And don't make it some pointless "challenge", like having to go on a quest or pay some gold in order to be able to push the button. Also, veteran rewards are stupid. I am a paying customer. I want a button that makes me win UO EVERY TIME I PUSH IT, and I want it NOW!!!

(When I push it, it should give me any item that I want, too. It's lame that other people can have really rare rares and I CAN'T! I am a paying customer!!!)

Yes veterans should have no benefits at all. They already have access to old insured uber-equipment.

i guess your gonna have to forgive me but i fail to see what account age has to do with luck whatsoever. i got a guy with 1595 luck and i hardly use him anyway cuz the luck doesnt really make much dif. but even tho the account is 122 months old the age of the account gives me nothing towards luck. am i missing something?

Is it fair that we old timers have spent 11 years giving money to EA for a few extra points here and there and being able to ride a polar bear?

I was looking for a microscopic violin to play for you, but this is the best I can do.

I have been playing UO for 10 years.
My 2nd account isn't old enough to get the max benefit of the Luck Statue.

I understand why people feel like they deserve something from UO since they have put up with their **** for so long, but I am also in a unique position where I can see the counterpoint.

I feel that as a vet I have already have an advantage over new players. I have 3 accounts with every skill 120ed with full suited chars, I know where to hunt for good loot, I fully understand the "new" armor/wep system (which took years). I don't need any more advantages.

You must not of sat and farmed blood ellies with full luck gear, it is VERY rewarding.
I have pulled a few great items and have only been doing it for 2 days on and off.
Best would have to be this ring
100luck
20lrc
25ep
15 Taming
15 Lore

I nearly fainted when I pulled this off a paragon blood elly. I can imagine getting a VERY pretty penny for this, but it just makes to much sense to keep it.

Arrrrr, methinks they be referrin' to the luck boost from usin' tha 10th Anniversary statue (varies with account age).

ah i c
thx seadog ...didnt realize that
still thru several yrs of experimenting with luck i have found VERY little dif in the loot i get. in fact i seem to get better loot with my 319 luck archer than i do with my 1595 tamer. that shouldnt be the case but facts are facts. so i dont bother much with luck anymore. seems fair and logical to have a couple perks here and there if you have been playing the game long enuf to get them aye? the negligible benefit from the statue due to account age will give you what, an xtra 2% chance or something like that to get better loot than if you didnt have the benefit?
doesnt seem like anything to worry about to me. but hey, i guess numbers are numbers and to each his/her own.

Meh, luck in my opinion was a horrible system and should not have been implemented. Maybe it's just because the luck cap is so ridiculously high. If you get better loot with lower luck than higher luck then clearly it isn't even programmed properly. Maybe they should have just made max luck at 100 then it would have been better.
Then again, I think people should have equal chances of getting items as opposed to only people who have enough cash to deck themselves out with well protected armor with 1000+ luck.

Luck as an addition should never have been put into the pool to compete with other armor stats but should have been it's own seperate modifier, maybe something that a crafter could add with enhancing, or could have been a quested reward. Oh well. As far as the list of things UO "should" have done, it's probably pretty far down there. Big list, ya know. ;)

This.

My take: Re-do loot in and of itself, completely irrespective of Luck. Overwhelmingly reduce the number of magic items that drop (and in many or most cases, make none drop) and finally give us Critical Hits, with Luck as the corresponding modifier. It wouldn't be imbalancing, because the templates most able to make use of such a thing would have the least room in their suits to fit another property.

I'm not a huge fan of the luck system. It isn't easy to run a luck suit on a character on the front line of a fight, which makes it unfair on templates which need a stronger defence than the top end luck suits really give.

I don't feel peeved in the slightest if an older player can get more luck than me. If we pander to all these "vets shouldn't get this perk" threads, the vet rewards themselves would end up being items that nobody gave a crap about :D Honestly, just play the game and worry about something more important. I can't claim 10th year rewards on some of my accounts either, so what? It's not going to kill me to wait...

Post count +1 indeed. Thats about all it was.

You make no coherent argument here and are simply wasting the board's time with a pointless rant.

Nobody is asking for a castle 'cos someone else has one'
Nobody is asking for a 900 skill cap (well not on this thread anyway heh..)
Nobody is asking for more character slots.

What is being asked for out of the things you mentioned is a bit of balance on the 720 skill cap for veteren players which is just not right.

Vets getting 720 skill cap is unbalancing. In tight templates means that newer players will struggle to compete (in pvp mostly). This discourages new players which I think we can all agree is a bad thing.

There should be rewards for veteran players who have supported UO (I am one of them) however not at the detriment of newer players because, in the end, it will be to the detriment of UO when these players leave, disheartened.

It is quite ridiculous that new players are denied access to a certain level of skill, no matter how hard they work in game, because of their account age.

I think most sensible players will agree that this needs to be looked at.

Oh not the old 720 skill points complaint again! Honestly, with all the skill + items, there is no such thing as a skill cap. Just add items if you want to hit 720. It's really, really easy.

If its such a non issue, would it be fair to assume that vet players would be happy to see all of their current caps accross all characters reset from 720 to 700 in the interest of fairness?

Sorry, i disagree with you. Currently, prices for rares and arties are cheaper than ever on some shards. IF you want it, go kill something to make the money to do it. Work up your skill to where you can kill monsters to get the weps and armor you desired. Seriously, go invest in a Transfer token and buy the stuff you dreamed of on a diff shard and move it over. What's so hard?

Pacific used to be one of the more expensive shards, but now you can buy a Jackals for 4 mil. Ornys are down to 10-16?? My God, things are so much cheaper than 3 years ago. We are coming to where stuff are affordable, so come on, don't say that everything is unattainable. Only a rare few are nowdays.

And if anyone quits over stuff like this, you lost the love of the game. Its a game for crying out loud. I hope that whining was just that, whining.

Wouldn't bother me in the least. I didn't lose out when I waited for my younger accounts to come of age, so I'm not going to cry because everyone got a reduction. Besides, unless they removed the ability of skill items to exceed the skill cap, the cap doesn't truly exist anyway. And if they did hard cap it at 700 I'll be the least affected on Europa precisely because I don't like using skill items on my chars. It won't be me crying on either count, quite the opposite.

But you might want to remember that it's so easy to twink up 20 skill points, that this is a really crazy complaint to have at all right now.

Fair, as applied to something like veteran advantages, does not mean equal. It means things like 'Just', 'According to the rules', 'Impartial', etc.

And before you suggest that it isn't 'impartial' because it 'favors' veterans, I will point out that every player has the opportunity to earn the same rewards by doing the same thing that veteran players have done - namely, play the game for a very long time. That's textbook impartiality.

Since there are so many skill+ items, how about they reverse it so that new players get 720 skill points, and vets get 700.

Actually it's unfair people playing the game paying 11 years of subscription. Keeping this game running and they only get vet rewards a 20 point skill boost and a luck statue that gives them some more luck for 1 hour. Seriously they owe vets alot more than those little hand outs. No vets no ultima. New players cant keep ultima afloat they will just head to wow or the next new kid on the block that comes out.

*shrugs* or nuke skill items entirely so there is actually a skill cap ;) Kinda daft talking about it as a cap right now. But in all honesty I wouldn't care if old accounts were on 700 and news on 720. I've used accounts of mixed ages at the same time without a hitch, wouldn't bother me.

When I came back to the game and discovered the following:

1) Special scrolls/account ages/rewards let you go above 100 in a skill.

2) Special scrolls/account ages/rewards let you go above the normal stat max cap.

3) Diablo-2 style "godly" vs. "total trash" significant gear modifiers/bonuses

my immediately reaction was "aw hell... there's no way there's anything resembling balance anymore."

While it's "cool" to throw in all these myriad variables and I'm sure the continuous old accounts were happy to take their increased stat cap, and I'm sure a lot of people felt it was a neat revamp to allow skills to go over 100... the more variables you throw in, the more that one template combo of gear/skills/stats is going to wind up rising to the top. Or a very small number of such templates. Let's say tamer-mage and ninja-archer or whatever.

I immediately had a negative reaction to those changes, but I'm willing to overlook them because I want to re-experience UO and missed it in the years I was away. I did know right away though they couldn't possibly bode well for the diversity and variety in the game. (Which is a bit counterintuitive but it's true, like in D2 as an example.... every class has a few sets/pieces of gear that every member of the class wants. Because combined with the "correct" skill distribution.... it's really the best template for that class.)

Hmm, 500% intensities, unravel it and make something a little more useful

I've always found high luck + blood elementals to return quite decent loot. The luck does tend to make a significant difference.

As to whether it's fair that veterans get a little boost here & there, consider yourself lucky that:

- any newbie can own a charger whereas before you had to wait 3 years for an ethereal mount.
- Any newbie tailor can make coloured leather armour whereas before that was a 2 year wait.
- A vanquishing weapon was acquired through months of saving and lost in an instant, whereas now any newbie can hit Doom and get an artifact that can be insured & kept forever.
- Thieves, bless their black hearts, were once rampant and even more of a threat than death, whereas now nobody ever loses anything, no matter how stupidly they behave.
- ..aaand so on..

Vets have done some "hard yards" compared to today's instant-gratification-oriented newbie so I say let the vets have their little boosts.

I was farming blood ellies to get the weps/armor/jewels for unraveling when I found it :)

I think I have 5 or 6 other things so far that are 400& intensities, so no, I wont unravel it, it would be pointless since it is already maxed out and very rare.
...

I should of phrased the thread different. No life isn't fair, no this game isn't balanced. But as a vet I feel that I don't need the extra luck for better loot (no matter how significant the bonus is) and I don't see how anyone who calls themselves a vet would WANT an advantage over people who haven't been playing as long.
Maybe it is just me but I don't need special treatment or rewards because I have been playing longer.... If I felt that way I would just quit.
