I guess I'm a bit confused--- how did you get hacked the first time?

If you're getting e-mails requesting passwords, ever, from anyone, don't do it. If you get an e-mail that ever asks you to "login" on a little embedded login screen, or anything like that, don't do it.

I'm assuming you were a bit careless with your e-mail and password info. Without more information, it's hard to really tell you how to "stop" someone from getting into your account info, other than to never give it out. (You shouldn't ever give it out.) And ideally the e-mail you have associated with your UO should NOT be the e-mail you give out in game to people. And by all means never give out a password. Ever.

It is important to know if you downloaded a program from someone.
If you did then they could have given you a Remote Access Trojan. And if it was a new one, or the only one of its kind, then no AV will pick it up.
Hopefully you actually weren't *hacked* and someone fished your account, or acquired your info using something other than a Trojan.

When they have your username/password they can log in to your account on the uo website, from there they can get your email, adress, last 4 digits of CC, etc...
Hopefully your email and UO passwords are different, and hopefully they didnt give you a RAT with a keylogger, because then your SOL.

If I were you, I would do a system restore. Then change ALL YOUR INFO at ultima-registration. Don't forget about changing PWs on email as well.
AV will not pick up all viruses, its a fact, so don't think your invulnerable there.

Knowing how they got your login/pw is important... If you got hacked, then it is a little more serious then a random fish.

still unsure how exactly i was hacked the first time, i think it was a key logger because multiple accounts got hacked between 4 different emails. When i say i got an email requesting my password, i dont mean it asked me if i wish to share my password with anyone, i got an email from [email protected] saying "as requested, your password is so and so"... which either means the guy had my email address and went to uo.com and clicked to have any pws related to that email sent to my email but he didnt know my email password so he was ******** and couldnt check it, or he did know my email password and i was close to being hacked... however i changed email and passwords. I never gave my email or password out to anyone. I reformatted my comp after i was originally hacked, maybe ill do a system restore in a little while. I dont accept programs from people either

I was hacked in October 2005. They got my e-mail and called my e-mail/internet provider and pretended to be me and got my e-mail password changed.

They then went to UO Management and requested ALL UO accounts associated with that e-mail be sent to my e-mail. Next they used the forgotten password and had ALL my passwords sent to my e-mail which they then had control over.

I was negligent in that my e-mail must have been visible on Statics. I have since made my e-mail not visible anywhere (I hope) and changed the e-mail associated with ALL my UO accounts to my work e-mail which my company owns the domain to and which I am the administrator of. No way is anyone going to be able to get that password changed by calling and pretending to be me.

I am constantly amazed at the stupidity and immaturity of people who insist on taking something that is NOT theirs, that they have NOT worked for and that they are NOT entitled to. I have worked all my life to get what I have and would NEVER consider taking ANYTHING that I did not earn or was not entitled to.

Dear K'torr,

We'd like to invite you to participate in the open beta test for the Stratics Community Toolkit, a revolutionary in-game overlay system that allows you to access your system, the web, popular chat programs and everything else from within game via what we think is the most unique approach to transparent overlays ever attempted.

If you'd like to download the client or for more information click here [http://vboards.stratics.com/showthread.php?t=117552]..

It's probably legit, but I ain't taken any chances.

Hail. This is why EA needs to allow accounts that have no marks against them the ability to change the account name, and not just the password.

Yeah that might help some as well, however, if they would but make it much easier to change the password, as in on the uo login screen, one could feasibly change it everyday to something else, vis a vie using the suggested password generator and pasting it in.

Problem is, IMO, the team who created the game in 1997 didnt expect, nor forsee this type of felony being perpretrated. Sadly, the 2008 team doesnt seem to see it either, or it would be "on the list".
Perhaps our "next" dev team in 2009 will have better vision!!

It might help to know that Microsoft announced recently that there is a SEVERE security vulnerability associated with Internet Explorer 7. They have asked all customers to NOT use it until they resolve the security breach.

So you may want to stop using IE7 for a while, or run an update if you haven't in the last week or so. The announcement came over 10 days ago so they may have already patched that hole.

Take the plunge! Switch to a REAL browser like Firefox or Safari. =)

Not Running IE7 won't protect you. Too many applications make use of IE for other things, like oh say...The Patch Screen.............

They released the fix the same time (if not slightly before) they acknowledged the issue - just like every other software company does, in order to prevent a flood of last minute attempts to exploit the vulnerability.

Frankly, these days, it's more likely for a hard-core gamer to use Firefox, so I expect by the end of 2009 that most vulnerability exploits to steal account information for games and the like will be targeting that browser (those simply trying for identity theft and financial information the target will still be primarily IE, as there are more, non-gaming, people to go after).

At least, there's finally a larger selection than just IE & FF now.

I have nevered used the random password gen but I do change my passwords about 3 times a month and yes I do use alot of paper to keep them all tracked and I have recieved a few emails asking for passwords they are always reported and then deleted and then blocked by me so I dont get another one from them. To place duty on EA to police the people from hacking is not gonna solve the problem. Just be more aware that you should never use a password more than I couple weeks for something you log on to all the time.

I use my internet provider comcast.net. I dont know what you have but you should use yours but not the main one set up a secondary one and just use it strictly for your accounts. and set another one up for registering on websites. At comcast if you dont know the account # they wont do anything. So if someone knows all your info and calls them trys to get into your main account they cant no account #. Probley works the same with who you use.
