Platinum, Silver, Bronze, Copper coins and checks

We have Gold Checks and Gold and Silver stackable Coins why can't we have Platinum, Silver, Bronze and Copper checks and Platinum, Bronze and Copper stackable Coins i just think it would be kind of cool.
  • At the very least i would like Platinum stackable Coins and Platinum Checks which would be great for instance lets just pretend that Platinum is 10 times more valuable then Gold a one million Platinum Check would be 10 million Gold saving some bank and house storage as well.
  • I am well aware that Silver is much more rare and valuable in UO then Gold is so perhaps Silver checks wouldn't make much sense considering but i wouldn't mind silver checks because they would be much lighter then Silver Coin piles and double clicking them in your bank would turn them back to Silver Coins again.
  • Maybe many of you wouldn't like Bronze or Copper Coins and Checks either because they would be less valuable then Gold but they would be kind of cool to add to the game in my opinion.
The most sensible idea here would be Platinum checks and Platinum Coins that is one i feel we can definitely use not a necessity but i would sure love to see them in the game what about you?

Yes, some of these ideas could make very practical additions to the game.

And a couple of these ideas, while not necessarily practical, would add to the atmosphere of UO (and might be useful for the roleplayers, of which there are still many, even if they avoid drawing attention to their locations and guilds these days).

Very good post Lore Master.

That seems to be very different from the tone of the original post. But I see where you're going with this, and you've got a point (however argumentative).

It is probably not a good use of our time to discuss ways the devs could free up our bank space by removing an emphasis on stacked currency. Ultima Online makes a decent profit from players who pay to increase their percentage of bank space, thus granting them more room for stacks of coins. Debating some other arrangement is, understandably, a waste of time.

However, Lore Master's ideas regarding more coin types is nice, and would agree quite nicely with EA's sales of increased storage space. :lick:

Having different denominations of coins is really no different just another kind of check. This doesn't really have any difference from increasing the size of checks.

If UO does add new currencies, I think that like silver vs gold, they should not be directly tradable, but instead should be usable in different areas/systems of the game.

My attitude is that there needs to be a cap on the amount of gold one character can own. There's a limit to the skills you can train, so there should be a limit to the liquid wealth you have. Eventually you need to spend your gold - if you have too much of it to fit in your bank box, you have too much period - you need to start spending it.

How about you LOG OUT once in a while and stop accumulating so much wealth??? Problem solved..

Not needed.

Give us real gold sinks. Problem solved.
Oh and fix duping.

Duping is the real problem with the UO economy.

Something (I don't know what, I am not a programmer) needs to be added to create unique IDs for all items, and when a duplicate is created, it should automatically be deleted, and a report should be sent to a GM.

As for reducing the amount of gold we already have, the solution is simple...

...get rid of LRC suits and make reagents incredibly expensive. Make repairs to weapons, bows, and armor require some kind of expensive consumables...etc.

The only thing people have to spend gold on right now are items they purchase from other players...which is just transfering gold...not getting rid of it.

I'd point out that merchants don't have to hunt, don't have to have their equipment wear out, don't have to use reagents.

If you make dupe-proofing your only strategy for shielding the economy, the damage the game will be all the more severe when a dupe/expoit/script does happen that can't be easily traced at first. I'm not saying it doesn't have to be addressed, I'm just saying we have to assume we will at some point have more rounds of "bad stuff" happen, whether its an exploit or a swoop - the economy has to have the ability to bounce back from that sort of thing.

No !!!!
but i am sure you can find some sort of game out there that has all these things you wish for. let those games have that garbage, UO doesn't need stuff like Platinum let alone more varieties of checks.
there was not enough 'rat coins' to justify having stacks nor checks for those types of coin either. ( most have been turned in for points)

With all due respect, this isn't a thread about duped items. It's about enriching one aspect of UO's content-- currencies. Furthermore, the devs (and their fans) shouldn't develop a knee-jerk reaction of banishing new ideas because of the ever-present shadow of exploiters. This would be allowing the exploiters to ruin our fun in a way that is worse than the act of duping itself.

All MMOG "currencies" have done is hide the real amoount of inflation the game experiences. UO's costs of ingame items seems high when compared to WoW when you compare gold to gold. The problem is that the base unit of currency in WoW is NOT gold, but COPPER. When you compare in this fashion, the costs line up more appropriately.

UO's costs ARE high compared to itself 10 years ago, but the main two problems causing this are 1. a lack of significant gold sinks and 2. duping.

Maplestone is right, UO right now has a dual currency system with silver and gold. They have a fluid exchange rate as shown in the thread by kelmo and are used in specific non-overlapping portions of the game. THAT is a true currency system. Breaking a single currency into parts is NOT adding in more currency, but simply "hiding" the true amount you are dealing with in terminology instead of showing you a pure number.

Case in point between WoW and UO:

1,000,000 UO gold =
100 gold 00 silver 00 copper in WoW

How does the math work? Simple. The Gold piece is the base unit in UO, while copper is the base unit in WoW.

100 copper = 1 silver, 100 silver = 1 gold, thus

1000000 breaks down to
100 00 00

Thus the "hiding" because the highest moniker given to WoW currency is the same as the BASE or lowest (and only) moniker in UO currency.

Honestly, I don't see any reason why we need this.

Just make gold more valuable?
Less on spawn, less dropping at champs etc....

They already nerfed BOS's.

For those who like this idea or at least part of it to make sense of it perhaps a new type of silver type stackable coins and checks can be created so we can have both faction silver which can say faction silver and the new silver which would just say silver which would be worth less then gold just a thought. the new silver coins obviously should have a differn't hue which should make it easy to tell the difference between faction silver coins and silver coins from just looking at them.

these are really bad ideas, I think it should cost 1 million per week to stable a greater dragon, that's a much better idea.
