Finally all these years later, I can start a library that doesn't look like it's been pilfered.
Well it is what it is but it makes sense. If they are already selling them then it wouldn't be at all fair to just give them away to certain areas. Think about how upset you'd be if they sold amreican players an item then made it a craftable w/o any sort of purchase for JPN areas.
I thought it was clever to do it like this with us because the system would be very expandable in a unique and interesting way. In the future... if they decide to make amends for trying to sell us something we always wanted to be craftable... for free.... They could change the recipe to give out different types of shelves... Like shelves that had scrolls in them if you used blank scroll as an ingredient. Or shelves that had runebooks on them... shelves for vet reward staues, snowglobes, contaniers like chests and baskets. Even shlevles that you could mix and match different items for display. I sure would like to free up all those wooden bench shelf secures. It's a neat concept I think.
Can metal dye tubs be far behind???

Wouldn't it be neat if the missing item was say a stack of Stealble Doom books? Would be so cool to final see a use for all those books in Doom! And that you would get a different layout of books with each different books used?
I had seen somewhere that metal dye tubs were actually coming.
As for the hitching post and stuff, I did notice that they are craftable, yet there is this item called a "Hitching Rope"? is that an 11th anniversary item needed to use the craftable Hitching Post?
And yes, thank you for the filled bookcases. I've always wanted them
However, these items that are now craftable make me wonder if we're still going to get the other items in the 11th anniversary package made available to us, or if the craftable items are a way to apologize for a future announcement telling us that we won't be able to get the other anniversary items.

The hitching rope is another craftable. See one of the other threads on the post.

How about adding some of the Spring Collection items from Japan (from a couple years ago) as craftables, too? As with these, they were Japanese retail bonuses, then were for sale for a short time to the rest of us as codes for sale.
I'd really like the ability to make those pillows (say, using fished up pillows as an ingredient), the wooden screen, etc.

i hope they do something other than totaly rob those poor Jap players who paid to get these items thru 11th anny promotion.
granted we needed some new craftables, but to take away from the 11th anny package just does not seem fair at all.
what will be left for our 11th anny package ? a couple of items that are basicly junk ?
i still think teh hitching post would have been better as being a 11th year vet reward- to finally be able to stable at home.

Is the craftable bookshelf really the same? I thought the anniversary bookshelf was empty until a book was placed into it, at which time it turned into a filled bookshelf? That adds a different depth to it. Maybe the craftable ones are always displayed as filled?

The new bookcase is called an "academic bookcase" and requires "academic books" to make.

Maybe I am clueless, but when I logged in this morning I had a Christmas ticket, but I looked through the Carpentry and Tinkering menus and found no mention of an Academic Bookcase, a Hitching Post, or a Hitching Rope. What sections are they supposed to be listed under? Do you have to have a certain aged account to be able to craft these items? I can't even find them on TC1 (I play LS). Am I just clueless? Is this something missing from KR?

I know this isn't much help but, they're on my crafting menus and my alternate tink is a little over 30 days old.
Looks like they're missing from the KR menus, but appear on the 2D ones. For some reason the KR menus don't seem to get updated right away when new stuff is added. So far I've made me a hitchin' rope, just need to find me some fire rabbity smells for the post. I'm a bit concrenered about the 'Replica' description tho. Does that mean it's just deco, cos then I really don't see the point?

From what I have read they seem only to spawn in the Champ areaI'll need at least 25 academic bookcases
(other than that, many thanks to the devs for making them craftable
in Bedlam and must be very rare at that.
I miss 3D and the stretch window container view. We need a display case that opens with larger view. Be nice to place 6 rows of armor in a case and see it all clearly again. Try displaying all the different names of sword displays in one case that don't look jacked up. The real waste and reason plp ask for more locks is 10%+ of the locks are containers inside of containers to see anything.
Still like to see more mason crafts. Coffins and Mausoleum for those going for the graveyard lot look. Whole spread of tombstone designs already in the game.
Stone birdbath that works like a trough.
Doorstop that works like a pet you tell to stay in the door to keep it open. You know the lil basics that could be done for classic home owners. Door chioce and teleporters for Keeps and Castles make those more user friendly.

On the craftable hitching posts it has number of uses (15) and also at the bottom a Rechargable Number (2). My thinking, is that the craftable replica has a limited number of times you can charge it before it becomes useless, and if they make them available as a 11th anniv reward, those will have unlimited times they can be charged.
Having found out what's involved in getting these books I think I can safely say my crafter will never make the bookcase.
Not only is it rarity 8, so spawning every 8 days, it's in the peerless area, so you've actually got to do Bedlam peerless, not just go into Bedlam dungeon, to even see if they're there. No thanks.

Then I've misunderstood. I've never been in Bedlam before. All I could find was the library with a locked door. I'll see if I can find out better.

Kinda gives you a new respect for all those librarians at the Brit Library doesn't it? Who knew it took so much work to build a bookcase that actually displays books?!
Seriously, I think they screwed the pooch here. We are talking about a BOOKCASE. Why should a stupid bookcase be such a pain to build?
So it's rarity 8... and I imagine that means it requires stealing as well? Ugh.

I am just missing around in game, did the slime quest, posted a few comments about the academic books in my holiday trade thread and how unfair I believe it is to make such an item a artifact 8 and in a Bedlam dungeon. They should have used the Doom books for it. Making it so all four Doom Books were require would have been far better then making the academic books.

I agree wholeheartedly...now, I understand about the Hitching Post as that
is a Stable in our homes. So I can see those being alittle difficult...BUT, a
Bookcase that we all have been begging for a long time.
