This is one of those subjects that really emphasizes the two M letters in "Massively Multiplayer" that have always made Ultima Online a grand social experiment. (Edit: a grand, and funny, social experiment.)

This has happened before, and it will happen again. People who are seeking to further their individuality will approve of features that give them more options, especially in respect to clothing. However, in order for them to be allowed these options, everyone else in the community will be allowed these options too. This eventually leads to people complaining about the very feature they approved of or demanded.

So if you're a rabble-rouser, then bookmark this thread and wait out your chance to tell lots of people you told em' so. :D

I hate the neon colors.

But the all whites and all blacks and deep reds are nice.

So I am okay with all the newbs and losers in the neons...as long as I can dress the way I want as well.

Thanks devs.
Everyones a noob and loser for liking bright colors? ok...

A similar issue came up in Eve Online. People wanted the ability to further their individual tastes in regard to their star-ships. The forums were rife with dark and atmospheric color schemes that would have made the artists at CCP proud. The problem was that the forums were even more rife with plans for pink-and-purple-polka-dotted star-ships, and as a tribute to UO (the MMO that started it all), lots and lots of plans for neon-colored star-ships.

The devs said no.

So the game's personality and atmosphere was kept intact for the players (in spite of themselves). The moral of the story? If you want to know why governments build technologies that might lead to mass destruction, ask game developers why they create neon hues.

The answer, of course, is to improve things.

Today, Eve Online has over 100,000 more players than UO.

I personally think that the ToT 1 colors should be brought back full time - but ONLY work on cloth items.

There is real life precedent for really bold, if not garish, dyes for clothing. Armor & weapons, on the other hand....

IF we could just get rid of the neon wargear, and have it limited to clothes, it would be great - that is why, personally, the current implementation of the slimes about to occur is missing the point. If it's the same metallic dyes from ToT2, few will use them (but it would be really nice if all these neon types DID use them to tone down their artis and the like), when most people I know want the neons and ToT 1 colors for clothing.

Why can no one on this forum take a joke?

I really don't care what anyone else does.

I admit...all the neon colors and spiked hair ruins the fantasy/medieval environment...but ce la vie! To each his or her own.

No one used ToT2 because the colors are boring and ugly. If you wanna add a "lolRP" nature to the neon colors, you can say they are imbued with magic energy making them glow those colors. Afterall, that's how the elemental weapons work, with it being brighter the more % toward an element the weapon is [such as 100% fire and 100% poison etc weapons being very bright]

If they bring back TOT1 it should work as it worked before OR make it so TOT2 also only works on clothes. One or the other. Don't mess with peoples playstyle just because you don't like it. Or did I forget how much everyone on stratics is always screaming about "don't infringe on my playstyle" ?

I disagree. ToT1 should work as it always has. Some items, such as the Violet Courage lamp posts look very nice in the right setting. Not everything dyed with the bright colors are garish.

Yeah, but how many people use it, instead of the blue or fire dyes? the gold, black, white, red and purple dyes work well, but a lot of the green, blue and fire dye jobs hurt my eyes.

I also wish that the OTHER Violet Courage purple had been a color option. It just looks better on my character than the dark violet.

Heck, I wouldn't mind slimes that would let us dye armor and artis the colors of the existing level 1-3 reward cloth colors.

With tokuno pigments...

All of the new replica shrouds...Please fix this!..and I hope this didn't make it to origin =\
It's not a bug. It is intended.
Thanks for clearing that up! :thumbup1:

I love how we can get a succinct and definitive answer so promply, yet the debate rages on for another 40-so posts :lick: (and probably another 40 after this one :hahaha:) Viva La UHall! :flame:

I'm glad these are dyable as it's bad enough that the replicas will be so popular but seeing 50 players with the exact same shroud would be simply ridiculous.

Actually I'd like it if they were dyable by cloth & special tubs (but not black out of respect for our EMs and because it'd look crap anyway). Hell, why not make death shrouds craftable?

There's no frequent in-game GM presence these days, not like years before, so there's no real risk of scamming anyone by using a dyed shroud. Besides, shrouds are ragged and monochromatic, whereas GM robes are quite definitely gilded about the waist and hem.

Has there been any word from the Devs on whether the bugged cloaks will be fixed or not so they are dyeable?
