Wanna know why the devs arnt answering? Its because no one is breaking the rules.
Another one who needs to learn to read... Are you reading the messages you reply? The question in the OP "is silver farming legal?". Why devs shouldn't at least answer "yes, it's legal. We meant it that way." or "it was an oversight we are fixing. In the meantime it's legal." really beats me...
Sure its somthing that may need a fix but there are no rules that state you cannot sit somewhere in the realm of Ultima Online dead with your pet near by.
Yes, there is. Besides the obvious fact that people in this thread have stated to have been banned for this (again, you may want to read?) and the fact that if it was not intended you are exploiting (for the illitterate, the definition of exploit: "use a bug to your advantage"), many devs in the course of time have stated that if you gain advantage without risk while not being at keyboard that's to be considered unattended macroing.
With unlimited amounts of faction items to buy, farming all this silver does not effect you at all.
I beg to differ. By the same line of reasoning you could argue that duping is not a problem either... As usual, many people in mmo think that if they do something in a _multiplayer_ game that does not directly kill me, that automatically does not affect me. Well, you are flatly wrong. I suggest you sometime play a game with a serious economy instead of this sorry excuse of MMO. What a silver farmer does, actually DOES affect me, in the same way as an afk gold farmer, or an afk miner, or a gold duper. The guy farming 50K silver without risk is crashing the value of silver, because it's RISK that keeps high its value. And while I don't either sell nor buy silver and I don't care about its market value, it affects the amount of people that come to fel to farm silver with regular gameplay (while in the first days I could find many poeple in farming spots hunting for silver now I only find ghosts...), defeating the rest of the work devs have done to bring people in factions. Yes, it DOES affect me, big time.
Besides its going to get canned here soon its just up to the Devs to create a patch. With all the complaining here on the boards im sure it will be on the next one, but who knows.
Which again leads to the issue of reading comprehension... That was one of the questions. I just asked for answer... which is not coming. Besides even if it gets fixed fast it's probably too late. Silver farmers have probably alredy stockpiled and they stockpile silver for hundreds of consumables every night. This alone will keep factions on a low regime for at least a year. And devs should know that people who got back to give this game another chance, after years of neglect and sometime outright lies, won't be very patient with this kind of things.
Oh well, no matter, 22 Jan is not too far off.
