News has come out that Mythic has decided to bite the bullet and launch official forums for Warhammer Online. Who knows whether they will also make one for Ultima Online as well. But it is no longer an impossibility.

I wouldn't expect any official comment on this in the near future since it was not from an official news release but inside sources. Also there is the possibility they might change their mind between now and then, as is so often the case.

The new forum is not going to be run by the UO team like the old one. It will be run by Mythic. Since Mythic has never run a forum before there is no way to tell whether they will be better or worse than any other type. Considering how opposed they were to doing this, I suspect there will be very strict regulations. Possibly even tying game account banning to forum banning.

- I haven't even looked at your link yet, yet I believe that is completely contradictory to the standard Mythic -'old song and dance' that we've been hearing thus far. Did someone or something perhaps persuade M Jacobs to broaden his horizon? Intriguing. I don't want to look at the link, yet, because I want to be happy with hope for a moment more; of course I doubt if it would go beyond WHO & I dunno if it would provide a significant benefit to UO at this current stage (perhaps UO in a few months? - Exactly as it was said to be with MyUO & just as it should be. Let new players read all they want (on certain forums) & ban forum nuisances from the game if they cannot deliver their criticisms without being little internet rude bois & refuse to take a warning for its worth.

Remember what I said about how great it would be if we had our own forums & internet informations accessible when in-game (perhaps at community hubs, bar, inns, messengers, and such, including having ~ interactive House of Commons Chats with all Devs visible in said locations on each shard...)?
Yes, it would be immersive (& it would round-out the Britannian Royalty to some extent. So many possibilities that I hope the UO collective has continued to consider. I can remind and provide more, if need be ).

I agree, and no offense to Stratics. I think the fact that forum behavior was tied into possible game account marks and bans really helped. A person needed to think twice before posting.

That is not the same thing at all. They've never run a forum which was open to all their subscribers for all types of discussions. Not a dozen selected people for a very specific reason.

Other than the load lag on this forum, I'm happy here. Let Them make War hammer and official forum. No biggie to me. Would be nice if they made this one our Uo official fourm. I don't see it happening though since if they have an official fourm for Uo It would make them accountable to answer the hard questions. As it is now they can blow us off if they don't want to answer.

Banning game accounts if people get out of line on forums is just stupid. Especially if they do a bad job of running the forums.

And UO won't get one. Mythic doesn't care about UO.

I have to disagree Flutter. I was a mod of the old UO forums for its short duration. It was highly restricted of what could be posted. Everything negative in nature was canned and we sent out emails constantly to the posters.

Even Mods couldn't post on certain subjects. It was highly discouraged.

Here you do have a little elbow room on what you can post.

I disagree. UO still makes a profit and the bare minimum of that profit goes back into the game to keep it chugging along on a skeleton staff with no advertising being invested into it. The rest goes to fund other projects.

If this is true I don't think they'd do it for UO. Smaller subscription base. Also we're not their baby. While I like official forums, I'm happy that we get attention and content.

I just said it was not an impossibility anymore. I didn't say it was going to happen.

Mark Jacobs has basically stated "no comment" on whether this is true or not.

It may have been to tidy up loose ends.
Even if it's profitable, it's not as profitable as other products EA have. So, it might have been a question of whether the profit was strictly worth the effort of keeping it around.

I remember when they used to do that. I recall one such meeting on GL's at I believe the Skara Braa councilors ...... I distinctly recall asking them when I will get to be able to actually get new underwear that I can dye.... I believe the answer was NEVER.... No I think I asked if we could have dyeable Underwear and they said NO.... at anyrate I do recall such a meeting "in-game" my but that was many, many years ago..... I also recall following Jaana on some quest of some sort and going to Fel to kill Lord Blackthorn.... (Though I didn't help kill him I was far too busy trying to stay alive with the 200 reds running about killing everyone and the rest of the time I was just rezing people.... I was no where near blackthorne when he actually died....... but as I recall that was not at all far from the Yew Winery... Wish I'd have taken a screenie..... though I did get one of Blackthorns funeral...

I think we just need more memorable events like that. I didn't get anything from the event I know someone got something but it really didn't matter what mattered was we all rallied together to do something.... (including the reds who rallied to kill us)..... and a good time was had by most. (Though HUGE lag was a major factor but way back then I and most others were on dial up too)..... ah... *wanders off to reminisce some more*

UO doesn't have anything like this for the community, Stratics started off good on picking up the slack for EA with this site. But there is too much bias here the community needs to be offically informed on a regular basis by offical game reps. And now Stratics info on the game is so outdated any new player would definatly reconsider a game more new player friendly.

Looking at the small numbers in the UO population I don't that would be an issue.
Besides say you move on find a new game that holds your interest and it happens to be a game produced by a small newer gaming company and just as your totally into it it's been bought by EA and everything goes down hill from there. Command and Conquer used to be some of my fav games till EA got their hands on it.

I can only hope that mythic starts their own forums. This place has gone south with overzellus mods and admins, who like to lock threads just out of personal bias. Just watch I will prob have a mod or admin PM me telling me i got 5 points again just for posting this lol.
