Why are MMO’s trying so hard to fit in when they should be born to stand out?
Posted by Zosimus June 16th 2012

In today’s world of gaming, newer MMO’s are being produced each year to a variety of tastes of online players.. Why do the developers feel they need to compete with the current line up of current and older MMO’s? They all have similar flavors to speak but they stay in that boundary of what current online players expect out of MMO’s.

Companies and developers are stuck in this mode to create the new WoW. Why create a new WoW when players can play WoW anyway. Online gaming companies need to take that step further and offer MMO players something new. They need to forget about trying to be the next WoW, or the WoW killer and give what MMO players want instead.

ArenaNet has made a new era with it’s direction they have taken with Guild Wars 2. “Dynamic Events” is a great example. Players can see these events stay the same or grow into something more if they choose to participate in them or not. No more grinding repeating the same thing over and over in a MMO just to level up and never do it again. Players choose what “they” want to participate in or not. They can go back to these DE and be scaled to the same level of difficulty any time they wish. Players will have the reasons to go back to any part of the land for any content over and over with the same character.

World versus World versus World in Guild Wars 2 may be similar to the three faction style of Dark Age of Camelot, but it offers so a great deal more. Many newer MMO’s are adopting that 3 style factions that are coming out in today’s market. With GW2 you will see reasons to have server pride, reasons to participate for all types and level of players, reasons to just have fun. There are many things that any player can do from the lowbie to the hardcore players. The nastiest thing that can occur to anybody at any level is die in-game.

ArenaNet has taken such steps to listen to its customer base and participate in discussions and create what players would want Guild Wars 2 to be. They wont make all players happy no matter what they do. If they could, then I would suggest they should tackle world peace. They do try to make players and fans happy with their products. A company that cares about its game and players. Who would of thought it.

Lastly they have gone the route with the buy to play model. How easy is it to win over players hearts with a one time purchase to play the game free and as long as you want? By my math it’s pretty easy. GW1 and GW2 get to play for free and never have to worry with extra out of costs expenses each month. Play with your friends and guild mates with the knowledge the one time purchase paid for hours upon hours of enjoyment forever. Spend that extra cash you would save spending on a monthly sub from another MMO on energy drinks if you want.

ArenaNet has made Guild Wars 2 be able to stand out of the MMO pack and usher in a new generation of gaming. Why should they fit in and be the same when GW2 was born to stand out. On that note, I am very thankful they have done so.
The GW2 world is waiting for you. So what are you waiting for?

Very well put my friend! GW2 stands out in so many ways - from their Gem Store - which offers NO items to cause game imbalance - to the way they update the client and have practically NO down time (Guild Wars boasts a measley 33 hr. downtime during its' seven year run), to everything in between. GW2 is shaping up very nicely. It doesn't have to be the next WoW or the next anything else. It has its' own lore, own history and own proven model of success. This is evident with their loyal and satisfied player base and the legions of GW2 players salivating at the mouth in anticipation to play this game. The next WoW? How silly! It's the next Guild Wars, it's Guild Wars 2 and you can't ask for better than that!
