Could someone explain to me who Clainin is? I know I should know but I don't. I lost track of the Inu Event.

Oooooo, someone has a lore-related question...?

*Cheers* *Puts on his historians cap, Intellegence +10*

Clainin is the Royal Thaumaturgist (a form of arcane sorcery that deals with spells independant of the four elemental magicks), an advisor to the Britannian Crown, and a member of the Royal Britannian Council. He was the apprentice of Nystul, Lord British's Chief Magician and Alchemist; and eventually replaced his close friend and mentor when Nystul entered the abyss to search for their King.

He came to prominence during the Exodus Wars, when he and Dupre discovered Lady Dawn. At the time, Clainin had been pushing for Dupre to take up the crown and lead the people against Blackthorne (something he adamantly refused). Clainin, like many others, felt the need for an image for the Britannians to rally behind; but Dupre felt his duty lay in leading the Britannian Forces in a neverending war against Minax. They eventually turned to the young Dawn, who would lead the people in battle against the Juka and Chaos Dragoons.

In the weeks before the destruction of Haven, Clainin disguised himself and went to investigate the hooded figures buying up blackrock around the village. It turns out he was too late to do any good, as he was caught in the explosion that rocked the isle; and is its only known survivor. The others were, for the most part, turned into the undead or cursed.

Clainin and Casca are the only two surviving members of the original Royal Britannian Council. He could be Casca's greatest supporter, or his gravest threat (aside from a number of rival kingdoms, of course).

He's the guy who's passed out in the Healer shop in New Haven. One too many bottles of sake, methinks.

Remember folks, sake and blackrock don't mix. Perfect example? Clainin. Also, don't drink and recall. I once recalled into Deceit (I blame inebriation and society) in front of some liches and a poison elemental who happened to like fresh meat. Of course, I died an elegant death. This was before runebooks were [Blessed], so I had to mark runes. Again. For the million and 69th time. Ah, the good ol' days.

There was a very fortunate event last night, and I'm giving an abridged version. Casca appeared before everyone on a boat that was stationed in the waterway in front of West Brit. Bank. He stated that Clainin had awakened and that we were to escort an emissary who then would lead us to New Haven and finally to Clainin. When we got to New Haven, Clainin managed to wake and even move, but it didn't take a healer to see that he was still very weak and still recovering (coughing fits and also he leaned on a lightpost for a bit after about ten or more paces from his bed in New Haven). When the emissary, Clainin, and a HUGE escort party (the slightly nude folks on Baja), managed to get to the moongate near New Haven, we were ambushed... I noted ettins and daemons, and everything was chaotic for a few minutes, but Clainin and the emissary managed to safely get through the moongate.

Casca appeared in front of Blackthorn's castle near the beginning of the bridge, and again, addressed the citizens as he stated that Clainin was "safe". Of course, this raised suspicions among the citizens asking "Where was Clainin???" and "How is he???". After things had calmed down a bit, I noted that even though Clainin is awake, there was a very awkward silence. A very noticeable hush. When there should be celebration, there was complete and utter silence within the town, even from the town heralds. In other words, there was still a very palpable and funky mojo still about. I couldn't explain it, but there you go.

There's quite a bit more, but I'll leave that to our Legendary News Reporters of Baja, Oriana and Sara. WOO HOO!

Ah, but there is so much more to tell, my very inebriated and rather nude friend!... *Grins*

Quite a few interesting things happened following Lord Casca's speech. The Widow appeared to us midway through, and offered our new liege a very cryptic reading. This appeared to upset our king, who said that he was retiring for the night.

With Casca gone, the soldiers of fortune amongst the crowd lost interest and quickly disentigrated; although rumors abound suggesting that much more occured later that eve. One rumor is that a magical spell battle erupted in the northern quarters near the inn, between an Inquisitor Cicero of Luna and one of the servants of the Dark Tower. The outcome of this conflict is unclear, but rumor has it that the Britannian carpenters are quickly attempting to replace the furnature and patch up the shingles on a rooftop of an inn.

Another rumor speading through the hyperborean north is that the Widow was spotted next in either Avalon or Dawn. Who can say what brought her there, or how she travelled there so quickly...?

I did not know of the battle. After I talked with The Widow we (RoU) escorted her to the other castle. were she went into here quarters there for a bit then emerged saying "Good it is still there." Thank you my fiend for the update on the aftermath.

Magdalena mentioned that she lives in one of the castles. We weren't sure which one she refered to.

Very, very interesting. *Ponders*
