What's with the damn pumpkins everywhere?

I don't 'celebrate' halloween. Never have done, never will.

But why is it game manufacturers seem to assume that everyone does, and force it upon us?

In WoW, in Sims Online, everywhere you see pumpkins, provided by the game manufacturers in some kind of tie-in.

I wonder what it is about fantasy online worlds where so many things are different (I take a bus to work instead of a kodo... although to be honest the kodo might be faster...) yet they seem to always want to tie in real life 'events' - or at least the commercialised parts.

I just find it frustrating... maybe I'm alone in this ... but anyway... thoughts?

It's not just a halloween celebration, though many take it as such.

it also celebrates Sahmain, a Druidic/wiccan holiday as well as other such events.

It also celebrates All souls Eve and All souls day.

There is a lto more history to the pumpkin/jackolanterns than just "Halloween" Look it up.

Oh I'm aware that there are other things as well as 'halloween' there... I was jsut wondering why, in a game where there is so much opportunity for roleplay and fantasy, something from "real life" seems to get such a promotion.

My point was simply that for reasons I need not explain, I choose to ignore this 'festival' in real life, but it's not easy to avoid it in World of Warcraft.

I can't remember, do Christmas and Easter get celebrated in some way in WoW?

Yes they do. Christmas trees with presents and Christmas quests though it's not called Christmas.

On Easter there are hidden eggs all over the world.

The celebrated October fest with "brewfest" and valentines day etc.

They're all there =P They just created new names for them in the game. Even Halloween has its own name in warcraft

I look forward to these events, adds some atmosphere to the games. I like the quests and sometimes the rewards are nothing great but they are fun to mess around with. I've been playing EQ2 and did a Halloween quest that gave me a choice between a cat or goblin mask. I chose the goblin mask and when I put on I looked like a big headed goblin with my characters body. The quest itself had me running around saying "trick or treat" to the npc's so I cound get candy for the quest giver.

They are just little fun things to do and you won't be passing up any powerful loot items if you choose to ignore the holidays.

Apparently you haven't done the headless horseman quest.

Look up Desyree on Whisperwind via the armory and look at her rings. There's also a helm and a better spell casting ring that drops

I'm not subscribing to WoW at the moment, my time has been with EQ2 and LotRO lately.
