My character just randomly dropped dead!

I was in Despise, he had at least 3/4 of his health left, wasn't targeted, and the nearest monster was about two screens away. No yellow damage points popped up - he just suddenly keeled over and died!

I demand an explanation for this.

I'd probably feel like dropping dead too if I had you staring at me all day.
