The return of a newb and how to make my ladder work..

Hiya :)
Hubby and I have just reopened our accounts and are having fun with the new decor..
One thing though, I seem to be at odds with my ladder.. I place it and excitedly start up it to get on top of my keep and just as I get to the top of the ladder, I fall off.
Am I missing something?
HALP MEEEE !! D:

Move it one "square/tile" closer to whatever you are trying to climb up to =)
