(Player Event) The 4th Barter Town Casino Night - Sunday June 29th 8:00-9:00pm EST

Date/Time for Next Event: Sunday June 29th 8:00-9:00pm EST
  • Casino Nights will always be 1 hour long.
  • Casino Nights will be held every week until people stop showing up for the event.

Introducing
the
Barter Town Casino

About
  • "Casino Night" is going to be Barter Town's signature, recurring, shard wide event. We hope to hold this event multiple times, either every other week or monthly.
  • We're completely ripping off the Knuckleheads casino games & rules from their casino on Drachenfels. All credit goes to them. Don't let anyone else tell you otherwise.
  • Currently, all games in the casino are dice games. Scroll down to see a copy of the rule book. (There are also copies of this rule book inside the casino itself.)
  • All exchanges of money will be done with blessed checks.
  • No fighting in the casino.
  • No stealing in the casino... within reason. For the most part, if you're here for the event, you'll be left alone by us. If you're outside with an non-cursed Ornament of the Magician then you're just asking to be stolen from.
  • You will be required to hand over your wager first. After the game is complete, then we'll hand back your winnings.
  • You'll have to take my word for this but, ALL GAMES ARE LEGIT. Like I stated above, this is planned to be a recurring event and no one will ever return if we start cheating people out of their money. Ironically, the truth is that a legit casino will probably generate more gold than a corrupt casino.
  • The doors to the 2nd floor will be set to "anyone" on the day of an event. (Otherwise, they will be secure. But the 1st floor of to the casino bar is always public and has a public Crystal Portal if you're ever in the area.

How to Play
  • There are 2 tables in the casino, each table able to accept up the 3 players and 1 dealer each.
  • Once you find an open seat, you can stay for as long as you like, for as long as the event runs. First come first serve. If you see other people waiting for their turn, it's up to you if you want to give up your seat.
  • This means that up to 6 people will be able to play at a time (as long as there are at least 2 dealers available for that event date.)
  • At the table, each of the 3 players will take turns choosing a game and announcing a wager (and handing their check to the dealer).
  • We will be accepting wagers of 10k, 100k, and 1 Million Gold. We'll have some checks for purchase on vendors, but please try and bring some of your own checks in advance.
  • There are a total of 6 different dice games to choose from.
  • After a game is set and a wage is made, you'll then follow the rules stated in the rule book for the chosen game. If you win, you'll be paid your winnings immediately. After you're done, the next person at the table will repeat this process.
  • If you want to see a casino in action, please check out this Knuckleheads produced Youtube video HERE. We're going to run it exactly the way you see it in the video.

Casino Handbook

Banker
  • There will always be a Banker (wearing a purple dress) on staff during Casino Nights.
  • The Banker will have multiple checks of various denominations for sale: 10k, 100k, and 1 million gold.
  • All checks purchased at the casino from the Banker will have a 5% convenience fee.
Lotto & Super Lotto
  • In addition to the dice games, there will also be Lotto and Super Lotto vendors (wearing green dresses) on staff during Casino Nights.
  • To play the Lotto, purchase a key from the Lotto vendor and use that key on the locked yellow box in front of her. If the box opens, you win. Open the box and claim your prize (and do this quickly because it will have public access).
  • If the yellow box is already unlocked and empty, do not buy a key from that vendor because the winning key has already been found and the prize has already been claimed.
  • The Lotto prize offered will be engraved on the yellow box so you will know exactly what you will win.
  • The Lotto vendors will be stocked with exactly 36 keys at the beginning of the night. These keys will only be reset until the prize is won. If no one wins on any particular night, they will not be restocked the following event night.
Map

Teleporter Hubs

Why are we doing this?
  • It's about time Barter Town had it's own signature event and it fits the theme of the town.
  • It's good for Siege Perilous. The larger the population is as a whole, the more fun it is to be a thief in general.
  • It's an in-game player run event where only blessed items are exchanged. A player can attend this event completely naked with nothing but blessed checks in their backpack and still participate fully.

Gambling Addiction

Problem gambling or ludomania, is an urge to continuously gamble despite harmful negative consequence or a desire to stop. Problem gambling often is defined by whether harm is experienced by the gambler or others, rather than by the gambler's behavior. Severe problem gambling may be diagnosed as clinical pathological gambling if the gambler meets certain criteria. Pathological gambling is a common disorder that is associated with both social and family costs. The condition is classified as an impulse control disorder, with sufferers exhibiting many similarities to those who have substance addictions. Although the term gambling addiction is used in the recovery movement, pathological gambling is considered by the Barter Town Psychiatric Association to be an impulse control disorder rather than an addiction.

If you have a gambling problem, do not hesitate in contacting your nearest Barter Town Casino technician. One of the services we offer is a Voluntary Self-Ban from the casino. Keep in mind, once this self-ban is in effect, the only way to lift the ban is with a 10 million gold donation. This gold will be used to help fund further scientific research in order to combat this terrible affliction.

Also looking for a Big Fish Trophy. I will display the biggest fish donated to the casino on the bottom floor. If anyone ever donates a bigger fish, then that fish will take its place.

I may have the small hedges. If you can help me find the bow Tina Tink lost somewhere in my castle a week or two ago, the hedges are yours for free :p
She remember she had it earlier the day you visited her. She may have placed it somewhere in the castle as it's not in her backpack.

The first ever Casino Night in Barter Town is still set for exactly 24 hours from now. I don't know how how many people are interested in this kind of thing, but we'll find out. Depending on how many people show up and how well it goes, we'll then decide how often to have these events and if to keep them at 1 hour long.

A few people have already donated a bunch of stuff including Hoffs and other people have traded for some stuff like Freja. Also with help from Fogsbane, I was able to update the Barter Town map to include all current houses. Still looking to trade/buy/accept donations for a few more things (above).

Remember, this is Siege, so I expect a least a couple people to come grief us (which is fine). But everything should go pretty smoothly since we're only dealing with blessed checks. Speaking of checks, please remember to bring your own checks of either 10k, 100k, or 1 million gold, depending on how much you want to wager. (There will be a banker NPC on site, but she charges a 5% convenience fee.)

Wearing a Jester Hat is not required attire during Casino Nights in Barter Town, but it is still highly fashionable.

Was good fun. Thanks for putting that on.

Only thing better that winning big is doing it right under Nightstalker's nose! *snickers*

A couple pics:

The highlights were probably Gu'Jek coming as the first player ever, playing all 6 games in a row and winning 5 of them. (Thankfully, he only bid 10k - 20k.) Also, very funny when a drunk in bone armor comes in, bids 1 mil on Lucky Guess and then leaves. And I think Hoffs cleaned out Gooch's table.

A couple things:
  1. We're definitely going to be doing this again. Don't know when.
  2. This was maybe the longest hour of UO I've ever played. Time goes so slowly when you're so active typing, looking up rules, and exchanging checks constantly. This event will never run for more than 1 hour in the future.

edit: I'm going to keep the casino doors unlocked until tomorrow if anyone wants to come check it out. I wrote a handful of books and locked them upstairs on the top floor.

I'm going to go ahead and pencil in the next Casino Night for Sunday June 1st, 8:00-9:00pm. A little later in the day, 2 weeks from now.

This may change in the future. But I'll try to stick to that for now.

This time I'll be there come hell or high water (occasionally those two take many forms, but I'll do my best to get there)...
One thing I'd like to know, tho: How much do you have put away to cover your losses? I intend to bring a few large checks... hehehe

Bumping this thread for a couple updates & announcements:

Casino Night
  • The 2nd Casino Night is still set for this Sunday, 8:00-9:00pm EST.
Lotto & Super Lotto
  • Rules & exact details in the OP. I've basically set up 2 lotto vendors on the casino floor. One will always be a non-gold prize and the other will always be a gold prize. This week's prizes are going to be a Crystal Portal & 1 Million Gold. Once I get enough money, the Super Lotto will likely pay out 10 Million Gold to the lucky winner.
Looking for Brews:
  • I redesigned the downstairs bar. For distillers out there, I'm looking for 50 bottles of your finest brew. Name your brews whatever you like -- yourself, your guild, or your worst enemy.
  • I'll also accept any Liquor Smuggler's Caches.
Big Fish:
  • Still looking for a Big Fish to hang behind the bar. The biggest Big Fish donated will be the fish that's on display. If you want to donate a fish, I set up a mailbox inside the bottom floor. (The bottom floor bar is always completely public.)
Umbra Hub:
  • The Casino is now linked to Kelmo's Umbra Hub. The public teleporter is on the front steps, opposite the Brit Gate Hub teleporter.

A little slower this time. I think a lot of people logged off after the EM Event. Some pics.

The drunk in bone armor arrived on a boat, got drunk at the bar, lost a mil, then left on a boat:

EM Troubadour showed up for a bit. And Gu'Jek continues to be my kryptonite. Instead of bidding 10k, he was bidding 100's of thousands and cleaned me out for maybe a mil in the last 15 minutes of play.

No one won either of the Lottories. Instead of restocking the keys, I'm just going to let it ride until someone wins, just to prove that there is a winning key somewhere in there. Here are the keys that are left:

Lotto vendor will give out a Crystal Portal and Super Lotto gives 1 mil gold. (At some point, the total cost for all the keys will be less than 1 mil and someone is just going to gobble them all up.)

The 3rd Casino Night will be next week on Sunday, June 8th, 8:00-9:00pm EST. We'll coming doing them until people stop showing.

New Game: Roulette

I'm trying something new this week. Thanks to yesterday's IDOC, we got our hands on a pair of Personal Attendant Tokens and now have access to the Lucky Dealer NPC. With the Lucky Dealer, we can now roll different numbers of dice (with different numbers of sides). I may try other games in the future, but for now I've converted one of the normal tables to a Roulette table:

How to Play:
  • Instead of players taking turns playing one at a time (with each player at a table choosing a game, making a bet, playing the chosen game, and then passing the turn), things will work a little different.
  • In Roulette, each player will have a chance to place 1 or more bets.
  • Each bet will should still be 10k, 100k, or 1 million gold.
  • After each player has placed their bets, 3x 6-Sided Dice will be rolled once.
  • That single roll of all 3 dice will determine which bets win and lose at the entire table.
  • After everyone is payed, there will be another round of betting and the game will reset and continue.

Betting:
  • You can make each bet on a group of numbers or a single number.
  • The different groups are: Low, Middle, High, Inside, and Outside:
    • Low = Numbers 4-9
    • Middle = Numbers 10-11
    • High = Numbers 12-17
    • Inside = Numbers 9-12
    • Outside = Numbers 4-6 & Numbers 15-17
  • Each group pays out a different amount of gold:
    • Low pays out 2 to 1
    • Middle pays out 3 to 1
    • High pays out 2 to 1
    • Inside pays out 1.5 to 1
    • Outside pays out 5 to 1
  • Any Single Number (between 4 and 17) pays out 7 to 1
  • Numbers 3 & 18 are automatic loses for the entire table. Note that this is very unlikely to happen. The roll would have to be either triple 1's or triple 6's.
  • **Bets on Inside will have to be in 20k, 200k, or 2 million amounts because it will pay out with 30k, 300k, or 3 million gold and I need exact change.

Multiple Bets:
  • Single bets should be straight forward, but multiple bets make it a little more interesting.
  • If you bid 10k on High and another 10k on Number 13, a few things can happen:
    • If the roll is between 4 and 11, both bets lose.
    • If the roll is 12, 14, 15, 16, or 17, High wins and Number 13 loses. So after spending 20k total, you'll get 20k in return, with a net gain/lose of zero.
    • If the roll is 13, both High and Number 13 win! So after spending 20k total, you will receive 80k in return!
  • You can make any combination of bets, but you usually want to bet on groups that have some overlap. When there is overlap between groups, you open yourself up to splitting wins & losses or if you're lucky, winning all your bets on a single roll.

We'll see how it works. The betting process (and me having to write down all the bets?) might just take up too much time and it might all move too slowly for it to be fun. The idea of taking multiple bets from multiple people at once is that everyone can load up on the same groups and everyone at the table can choose to win & lose together if they want. Or if everyone else is bidding High, they can be the the one who bids Low and if the roll is Low, everyone else loses and they win. Or if someone bids Low, the next person bids Middle, and you bid High, then someone is bound to win. Then it just becomes a game of who's the big winner and who are the losers.

If you look at the pic above, you'll notice that I set the table up to hold a maximum of 5 people instead of 3, just to make it more interesting.

But if this all sounds too complicated (of if you just want to play Blackjack, Beat the Bank, or the other dice games), those games will still be available at the table in the back.

Again, this all might be too unweildy, complicated, and slow for it to be any fun, but I'm willing to try it at least once. I think it's a lot less complicated than it sounds. It's still just making bets, rolling the dice, and seeing what happens. Once you play 1 or 2 rounds of Roulette, it should all feel very simple.

Alright, the 3rd Casino Night was a success with about 10 people in and out all night long. But when the tables aren't full, it's not really worth doing it every single week. The next Casino Night will be 3 weeks from now on June 29th, 8-9 pm EST.

I think Roulette was a success, but it only really works with multiple people. The more people the better. The more diverse bids, the better. The max people at the table was 3 at one point and it would have been even better with 4 or 5.
