I'm a very old UO player who hasn't played in years, i want to start on siege but everything is very different.

I wanted to try some mining to earn some gold, but pickaxes are 192gp each, is there another method i'm supposed to use to acquire pickaxes? Can you repair pickaxes or will they break after X uses no matter what?

How can I tell if a house is "IDOC" You used to be able to click the sign post and it would tell you but it doesn't anymore.

Will the moongate not take you to a city if you have an escort wanting to go there? I have an escort that wants to go to Vesper and Vesper isn't showing up on the list.

Assuming i manage to get some iron ingots, will I even be able to find people who want to buy them from me?

Any tips on making some money as a new player on siege?

Cloth and leather. Shear sheep or pick cotton and sell to players, same for cows...kill em and take there skins. If you join NEW they will set you up with all sorts of basic stuff to get you started. House signs still show IDOC status, just mouse over it not click on it. Yes escorts follow you thru moongates, Vesper is reached from the Minoc gate I think.

I hear that alot from noobs. NEW helps you as much or as little as you need. I think the best part of NEW is having the tag. People see it and will introduce themselves, some will ask you to farm for them..feathers, cloth, hides. Also quite a few people find loot on monsters that they can't use but would be great for a noob so they donate it to NEW.

If your going to train mining or smithy or what not... pick up tinkering to make more pickaxes...

there are other ways to make gold tho if that's what you're really looking for.

It still does... but only when the account is deactivated. We don't have to refresh our houses anymore so you won't see any recycling house decay warnings like you used to. If you have an account and own a house... it's yours.

Minoc is the moongate you are looking for...

Maybe? Depending on how you price them... and with the new bod changes that are supposed to be coming... hell yes.

Go out and hunt or sheer sheep or whatever... also look into joining NEW btw.

The pickaxes will break no matter what, like all tools here. It will probably be easiest if you pick up tinkering so you can make a new pick with your ingots when the old one breaks.
Houses only show decay status the last week before they fall. Any house that is not showing any status is simply not decaying.
Vesper is located east from the minoc-gate. And I'm sure people will buy your ingots!

When I first came here to Siege from Chesapeake 3.5 yr ago.. I came to make a crafter. I forgot how fast tools wear out here. I did not initally put tinkering on my first few skills !

So I know the hell that is
..shovels broke ...needed ore to up the tinkering ..to up the mining needed more shovels etc. and had to buy some shovels and or try to do some crap smith bods hoping to get a few gp and sturdy shovels...but I did not put smithing on my chr. either. Went for mining tailoring and lumberjacking I think at first. . lot of good lumberjacking is without tinkering up hatchets.

At any rate a lady came up to be at the bank one day notices I was new around here and asked me how I liked Siege etc. I was very frustrated that day..out of gp out of tools and my tinkering still too low to *make a darn shovel*... so I told her I forgot how fast stuff wears out here. She asked me what I needed...and I said... ifn ya give me a shovel and a tinker tool I might be able to get more ore to make more tools and up tinkering to ..make more tools
then maybe I can stick around here..out of gp now can't even buy a stupid shovel atm. . till I sell some wool...which.............. can't fleece my daggar just died too.
She was Shalimar of NEW.

I am gm tinker... NEW also can help ya too... ya want shovels...
some of us be happy to make ya some ...since ya got ingots ... that= shovels and other tools. *but I am not hurtin on ingots so I will gladly tink ya up a bundle of tools*
by a bank of ye choice.

Folks will buy ingots, but in the meantime do not underestimate the power of the sheep! Alot of us use bandies and need cloth. If your wanting to go guildless, you might hook up with a crafter or two and make some deals...leather for armor or some such. You will die. You will lose your stuff. Have back ups of everything. I used to make up packs and put them in my bank box with a full set of armor, jewels, bandies, regs and pet food. If your backed up, it won't hurt so bad. You won't take it personal and you'll have more fun. This is a good time for farmers as most of the fighting currently centers around Luna and spawns. This will shift and change. Take advantage of it.

edit: Oh! And feathers!

One of our long-time residents, and all-around awesome crafter, Gwendar, has a shop right outside of Vepser. She usually stocks sturdy pickaxes and shovels for free.

People will most definitely buy your ingots.

Where do you get regeants? Or does everyone just buy them from npc vendors for 3x price?

I remember walking around Moonglow and Minoc, picking up regs off of the ground until I could afford to buy my own. There are some player-run vendors that stock regs. Check around.

i understand you want to do you own thing, pretty much anyone will help you if they can ill drop you 10k in gold if ya need to get started or anything you need. i started selling spinded leather 30k for 1k of leather when i started and you only need like 50-60 swords to go kill lizard men thats the way i got going.

The thing with regs is this...the prices will vary per town when one is buying them from npcs. Factions whom may own a town, you may see same regs for even MORE than the higher Siege normal prices, and some one city they own, they may have a reg vendor up..be even less than..9gp a regular reg..may be 6 gp.

So get used to looking around for *faction vendors* to see it they are reasonabley priced or better than the ones on the npcs per town...if not they will be a normal price in NON faction towns..better 9gp per than way more. *same would hold true for anything on the npcs...even a shovel, some faction town may charge MORE some LESS, so ya always have to shop around and check all the faction cities compare prices...or just stick to shopping non faction cities for *basics*.. as those prices remain the same per items on npcs.

Also any reg ya find on the ground......esp. places that they spawn and fall a lot like bit north of Minoc stable *out of town* they can fall like rain.
FREE if ya live to get em to a bank.

Oh yeh, and the DARK WISPS here are not the harmless lil cute shadow wisps of other shards..............OoOO they have killed me MORE than any pk here when I first got here.. I HATE them dark wisps still ! haha
Speedy death flyers !!

scara is cheap right now . i dont know how long it will stay that way . but for now , buy what you need there . and if the prices go nutty youll have to keep an eye on the other towns . vesper moonglow and brit are all faction affected towns too . right now they are high as hell . but if they all go crazy, look in luna its a neutral town.

and if your gonna buld a crafter definately build tinkering .(at least for now for the tools)
build arms lore too your weapons and armor will be stronger with arms lore .

also try to keep your skills all about the same as you raise them .it wont matter when your under 70 skill . but once you hit 70.1 rate over time kicks in and youll want to keep your skills balanced .
im finding out it does make a big diference tring to raise skills .

i came back with some gm skills but needed to build some stuff that was irrelevent years ago . ive aquired some scrolls and i was just letting the high ones drift up naturally . but ive actually been told to lock my gm skills till the lesser ones catch up.

it works like this .

if you train a skill between 70 and 80 you get so many a day . you get a lot fewer raising a skill 80 to 90 evel less at 90 to 100 . over 100 you get hardly any . so if you take even one point over 100 you drop your available gains in the 70 skill range to "hardly any" as well.

i cant recall the exact numbers right now but its listed in the "mythbusting siege" sticky thread . read it if you havent . its quite good.

What is a good price for regeants then? In brit mage shop they're 36gp each, that can't be right? Where should I buy some at a normal price? Luna?

J

6-9 gp depending. Player vendors is the way to go. If you don't have money go kill juka mages southwest of justice in the juka city. Or farm up a bunch of arcane gems, shear sheep at yew pens, spin it into bolts, and I'll make you arcane clothing. PM me if you need anything.

siege base is 3 times normal . so garlic which sells for 3 on a normal shard you can expect 9 (say in luna where its neutral) in brit where factions have tweaked the venors its 36 ... in scara where factions have tweaked it in a good way its 6

i dont completely understand how factions controll their towns . but i gather if things go wrong it screws their prices horably.

pretymuch everything you want will be cheaper in scara bre right now . go look at the mage vendors in scara. (all those blue bottle and regent vendors by the bank are faction vendors) look at the cooks in the inn . the banker selling comodity deeds . pretymuch all town vendor prices are affected

I wouldn't view join NEW as being a "hand out" it's a very good service to Siege and most of us respect what NEW represents and will not kill you on sight.

if you need regs I can sell you some at 6 and 9 gps each to get you going.

What is the arcane clothing for? I have loads of bolts of cloth but not much else.

yeah dont sweat it . NEW is siege players answer to normal shards "young" status. we dont have "young" on siege so the players took it uppon themselves to compensate. i think its a very good idea .

most pks will honor the NEW tag and leave you alone . but then after a month your expected to fend for yourself . and it isnt written anywhere , but its generally expected that once you are grown you should help the next NEW guys. (or at least leave them allone)

M

BTW what is the going price for cloth and would anyone like to buy some? I've over 100 bolts ready for sale.

arcane clothing is made by a tailor . it allows you to cast spells without regents .

it cannot be blessd tho (i tried)

a gm tailor makes arcane items with 20 charges . legendary makes 24 charge items . anyone can recharge the item by dropping an arcane gem on it altho if you have low or no tailor youll only get like 14 charges per gem

arcane gems can be found on loot . especially in ilshenar it seems .

cloth will easily sell for 350 a bolt.

Make a new post to try to sell it.

M

mookin1

How many spells can you cast with the arcane clothing? Is it better for gaining magery than using regeants?

350 the standard price for bolts of cloth?

G

Guest

Guest
Depends. some like arcane, some like reagents.

You'll be better off getting a 100% lrc suit and training magery somewhere safe.

Yep 350 gp/bolt is the going rate for cloth - at least that's my understanding...

i saw a guy trying to sell some for 300 yeasterday . but that was just one guy . i dunno really

and yeah i wouldnt bother training on arcane stuff . sell some bolts buy a cheap lrc suit and never leave the guard zone with it . unless your fortunate enough to have a house

lrc = lower regent cost . you can get up to 20 lrc on any armor piece or jewelery
altho you prob wont need more than 14 or 15 lrc per piece (it has to all add up to 100) pieces can me medable or steel . stuff you can meditate in costs more obviously . but you should be able to find a non med suit (with crappy resists) for prety cheap . then just only use it for training .
dont fight in it and dont leave it sit in your pack . someone might steal it . wear it and stay in guard zone youll be fine . the non med stuff works for training it just takes longer cause you cant activly meditate between spells

Make sure you get in contact with NEW. They will help you out a lot. Don't worry about dying either, it's going to happen until you learn to defend yourself. What's your character name?

Yes, 350/bolt is the going rate. I will gladly buy any that you have. Also, I will pay you 25 per for regular leather. My ICQ is 193-165-018 if you need to get in touch.

More questions, what does it mean if an item is "cursed"?

Fast cast recovery, faster casting, what is the max an item can have and as someone who uses magery how much + fast cast recovery and faster casting stuff should I be using?

M

mookin1

Guest
More questions, are we only able to gain a limited number of stats today? I've just done armslore from 0 to 30 and gained no stats.

What's a good way to gain strength and intelligence?

G

Guest

Guest
Lol, lots of questions.

"cursed" means it cannot be blessed, even with the siege bless. On other shards, it also means it cannot be insured, but that's not relevant here.

FC, max 2 for mages, max 4 for paladins, don't know for the others.
FCR, max 6.

Jewelry has max 1/3, except for the ornament of the magi, which is 2/3.
Helm of swiftness is 1/2
The vesper chaos shield is 1/2
Weapons can have FC1 or -1
I think that's it.

They aren't important at low level, but if you are in a safe place, it may speed you up a little in your training. 2/2 is usually what I run with as a pvp mage, because I am not very good at pvp and don't mind losing my 1/1's.

G

Guest

Guest
There's a max of 10 gains in stats per day. Seesaw'ing the stats no longer works. Just set them all to raise, and when you hit your cap, drop the ones you don't need as much of. It doesn't take that long, but it can be a pain if you swap templates around a lot using soulstones.

M

mookin1

Guest
Ok thanks, how do i use siege bless?

When I get to 70 in a skill and gains only come every 5 minutes, is there a good way to do it? Should I get a gain, then wait 5-6 minutes before attempting to get another gain? Raising magery for example I see no point in using it for 5 minutes after getting the gain if it's impossible to gain.

G

Guest

Guest
Use the context menu for the siege bless (single click your character, select siege bless). You can siege bless one item, and you can change which item to bless any time you like. Most of us bless a very good weapon or artifact, and then plan for everything else to be looted occasionally.

Beyond 70.1 in any skill, the ROT system kicks in. Read the mythbusting thread above for a full explanation.

Are all spellbooks blessed? Even the ones with magic stats?

What kind of spellbook should I get? I've found an empty one with fast cast recovery 2, faster casting 1, it's 50k gold, is that a good one to get?

My main issue is I have no idea where to fill it up with spells, i haven't found any players that sell all the spells, i found one full spellbook but it has no magic bonuses.

Spellbooks with no magic properties should be blessed already...

And magic spellbooks like this fast cast recovery 2 faster casting 1 book, is it blessed already or do I need to use siege blessing on it?

G

Only the normal spellbooks are blessed. The others can be siege blessed.

M

Ok, i'm going mage, possibly tamer mage, should I be looking for a good spellbook to bless or is there something else I should be after?

If spellbook then i'm having a hard job deciding what to buy, so far i've found a spellbook with +2 fast cast recovery +1 faster casting, that's 50k gold, and another one called the Tomb of Enlightenment, faster casting +1, +10% spell damage increase +5 int, 180k gold. Both are empty spellbooks.

Is either of these worth buying? Or should I hold out for something else?

G

Guest

Guest
The 1/2 looks like it's worth buying.

If you have wrestling on your mage, then bless a book like that one, and carry a normal blessed spellbook with 64 spells in it.

If you don't have wrestling, then get a jaana's staff or sword of prosperity or staff of the magi or staff of pyros.

M

mookin1

Guest
I shouldn't try to get spells for the 1/2 one then? Yeah I plan to have wrestling.

So I could just carry 2 spellbooks, the 1/2 book with siege blessing and a normal book with 64 spells and i'd still get the bonus fast casting?

M

mookin1

Guest
Doesn't siege have its own trade forum? I looked there but siege wasn't listed.

M

mookin1

Guest
So I actually need to hold the 1/2 book in my hands for the fast casting to work?
