POLL: Should the reasoning behind LOCKING a thread be given?

There seems to be a rash of threads being locked & I think perhaps if we all understood why they were locked in the first place other occurances would be less likely.. What I would like to see, is that if a Moderator finds it necessary to lock a thread, that they post as the last message in that thread the REASONS (preferrable citing something like ToS line C)) so that the rest of the community understands where the line is .....

I will do my best to provide a reason as to why future threads are locked, please take a moment to reread the RoC.

A. Show respect at all times.

B. Help build the Community.
The success of our forums depends upon the quality posts of our participants. We are proud of the success of our forums and give our thanks to those who have chosen to make our forums their out-of-game home. To ensure continued success we are posting these guidelines so that all participants of the Stratics forums understand what is considered unacceptable behavior in the forums and can result in a temporary suspension or a permanent ban.

C. Personal attacks are prohibited.This specifically means any text/post that is blatantly attacking another person on or off the forum, especially in a personal way.

D. Trolling is prohibited.Trolling is whenever someone is clearly, deliberately posting in a manner for the purpose of angering and/or insulting the other participants of the board. Trolling DOES NOT encourage further discussion in the long run, it only encourages personal attacks (if left unchecked).

E. Private Messages received on these Forums are to be considered private and are not to be posted publicly unless the sender of the private message agrees.

F. Participant shall not post messages containing personal phone numbers or addresses.

G. Advertising of player-run shards is prohibited. Additionally our forums are not designed to provide technical support for shard emulators and as such all discussions related to building and maintaining a shard are prohibited.

H. Posting details of bugs and exploits in such a way that others are able to perform said bug or exploit is prohibited. In addition, documented involvement in activities that prove to be malicious and/or illegal in nature as it concerns the gaming industry as a whole will lead to immediate and permanent banning from the forums.

I. Publicly discussing actions by the moderators is prohibited. This includes, but is not limited to: bans, warnings, locks, and moved threads. Any inquiries or comments on bans, warnings, or other moderator actions, are to be sent in private messages or via email. A moderator may choose to publicly inform the participants of a forum about bans and warnings if this is in the interest of the forum.

J. Posting of pornography, racist or otherwise discriminating remarks, threats to cause physical or mental harm, extreme offensive language, material that breaks any law or otherwise totally unacceptable posts or links to pages that contain the aforementioned material may result in an immediate ban from the forums.

K. Deliberately circumventing the censor filter is prohibited.

L. Spamming the forums is prohibited.

M. Please adhere to the following restriction for images that are not directly related to the topic of the thread under discussion:

- Maximum size of image file(s): 50k (51,200) bytes
- Maximum height of image(s): 125 pixels
- Maximum width of image(s): 600 pixels

N. Not responding to or ignoring moderator warnings can lead to suspension.

O. Activities that are against any games' Terms of Service or the User Agreement are prohibited from being promoted or advertised on our network. This includes, but is not limited to, third party programs, game item sales for real world goods, power leveling services, and/or links to such items.

P. Player to player transactions selling in game virtual items for real life currency are prohibited from being promoted or advertised on our network.

There are a number of issues that are not so clearly cut. The following issues are acceptable.

Q. Images created using shard emulators may be posted on the forum. Many of our participants create cartoons utilizing shard emulators. These cartoons add tremendous value to our forums and are perfectly acceptable.

R. Off Topic (OT) are not prohibited, but should be posted within reason. There are some topics that are not appropriate for the forums. All posts are subject to these rules. Excessive OT posts will be dealt with on a case by case basis.

S. All Forums have a main topic. When starting a new thread, make sure you do so in the proper Forum.

T. Guild advertisements are to be posted in the appropriate guild related forum(s).

I don't think it would be too much to ask for an explanation. I like the idea of the mods posting a comment saying what rule was broken when they lock the thread. I know moderating a forum such as this one is difficult, but maybe this would make their job easier in the long run.

There's such thing as individual style of each moderator - some prefer giving information in public, some prefer PM, some remove/lock and only give their reasons when asked (ok, this shouldn't happen on regular basis).

Now, it's not the question of poster's preference, really. The poster whose post is the reason for removal/lockage should be informed, but it's up to an individual moderator how they do it. Poll or no poll.

I have to agree with Ron And Balinor on this topic, I voted yes not that it matters much because even on some of the threads locked in the last day or so all i saw was game related smack talk nothing personal and guess what it was still locked so I have given up all hope. And I also think that you should have to lead by example Mods so I wonder why I have seen mods also break the RoC but yet the thread stays open and the post is not removed.....

In a PvP thread..the respect thing simply does not, and will never, fit.

PvP is all about disrespect.

As long as the language is clean, rl is out of it, and no personal attacks based on someone's rl crap is achieved...a much lighter moderation approach is needed, given the subject's inherent volatile nature. Such postings are good for Stratics and the community in general, besides being fun to read.

My 2 cents..which is worth more than any of yours...because it is mine.

To borrow a phrase from the sports world, "it's bulletin board material". Sometimes you read something that just makes you want to log in and hunt the person down when all you really was planning to do that day was log in and collect your bods and .1 daily skill gain. Take Thursdays fight at the champ spawn....6-7 threads were locked that day and that night there was probably the largest fight I've seen on this shard in a long time. I can't say that A lead to B, but still for those that were there...nice fight, yeah you all won, but we finally got a good fight and had fun.

As is blatantly obvious..it seems that the people here WANT to talk about PvP in all it's respectful AND disrespectful manners.

It was always my thought that a set of forums exist to provide its users with an avenue of conversation. Since the majority of posts here look to be the PvP world, these moderators need to look to the needs of their clients. While I absolutely agree that certain protocols need to be met, protocols change according to the individuality of any given forum.

Since we, the PvPers seem to be about the only ones posting here in vast numbers, allow us our communications. I am not saying throw the baby out with the bathwater but you absolutely need to make allowances to allow the clients to enjoy your services.

No clients..no services. No services...no moderators. Everyone looses. LORD knows we love to communicate in our own very special way

Ok for a minute i was agreeing with the mods but this is getting to be bullcrap. The pvp crowd isnt welcome on stratics I see. You guys deleted every post, every thread for last three or four days. I say if they are going to delete them anyways why use clean language, go ahead and get real personal. Once they bann all the pvp crowd then the 8 non pvp people left that post here can have it all to themselves.

Its not that we don’t want the PvP crowd here, it’s just that the PvP crowd needs to realize that this isn’t their playground to bash and vent at each other out of game.

If your going to post in a PvP related thread here, please follow the RoC, its there for a reason. You all know the rules were relaxed in the PvP thread and a few people got away with some pretty rough stuff, but it’s unacceptable when things start getting like the PvP thread in the main forum.

Keep your posts clean, that means to show respect at all times. No personal attacks, no trolling just to get under someone skin, posting or even talking about someone using an exploit and everything else that is listed in the RoC.

I personally enjoy reading the PvP threads, but I don’t enjoy having to scroll through all of the unneeded name calling or trolling. Yes I understand that its part of PvP, but keep it in the game and keep things civil.

PVP is a competitive game! I would LOVE to see you try to have a civil conversation about the pvp in the game. You will get called racial names, be cussed at with some of the most foul language! UO DOES NOT INFORCE ANY LANGUAGE OR RACIAL COMMENTS ANYMORE! The reason why we bring it here is people are forced to leave that kind of crap in the game and talk civil here. If you think we are not being civil here go have a talk to Of the abyss, DOm, danu in game. I think you might learn a few new cuss words you never herd. At least here we don’t have to deal with that kind of crap. If someone is going to far, GIVE THEM A TWO DAY VACATION or remove their post and make them rewrite it! The bottom line is posting here is the only way we can talk about pvp without having to ask our kids and/or loved ones to leave the room. You say you want to have a conversation with no personal attacks, no trolling. If you say anything about pvp your trolling because someone will always have a different out look on the topic. Then you have some that are completely out of their minds and you delete all the posts and threads because of their comments. Don’t you think for one sec they are doing this on purpose because they don’t want to hear what people are saying about the tactics used? I think some are manipulating the mods to hide some of the truths of pvp by getting threads locked. So if I don’t like something cop says all I have to do is get personal and boom, thread gone.
Bring back the PVP thread and there will be fewer problems. Don’t bring it back you are telling everyone NO MORE PVP TALK because there’s no way to follow the standard ROC and you know it.

Trash talking in pvp is going to be a given on any shard. I agree that some of it gets way to out of hand and personal. But it will never stop and it won't make a difference who posts what and why and so on, because there will always be trash talk on threads. I never understood why people have to trash talk in the first place, but i guess for some people it makes them feel a little more important, and if thats what it takes then go for it.

I choose to disagree with your primary comment: The threads were removed for good reason.

No, they were not. They were removed because the Stratics Moderators are out of touch with their client base.

As has been stated several times;The disrespect and trolling posts will always be a part of the PvP world, both ingame and on any forum. Again, since this is the type of posting going on in this individual forum, the rules of moderation do not match your clients needs and wants. Moderation is needed to keep language clean and rl out of the posts.

Since you refuse to recognize this basic need of customer service, I will post here no more. I urge others to do the same. That way the moderators that are left can log in here once a month (or less) and see what, if anything, warrants their service.

i see where widow is coming from, and he has a good point, but if u delete your account who is going to argue good points?? Also, you are my in-game idol and the best player ever (besides me of coarse) On another note, I read alot about cop being zerg and what temps they play. Just think, if there was no cop or zerg on a shard, then who would there be to fight?? I enjoy fighting cop alone or with my guildmates. For those who talk about how it's 10vs1 ganks, just play it smart, everyone knows you get at least 20 seconds for a kill before 10 more come to the aid of their guildmate, so use that time wisely. If the blues at the gate worked together a little bit more, they could take out cop or any guild even when outnumbered (cept ours)

Unfortunately that few individuals that throw out most of the lies like there's no tomorrow and is even admittedly agreed by your own guildmates is wearing the same guild tag as you.

Why do COP rarely post other than the few liars that everyone knows? They feel sorry and humuliated (chat a lil with ur guildies asking why they dont come here and "support" calistie so he had to make another account and talk in 3rd person to support himself), but they dont want to get peer pressured out of guild so they dont have the zergs to cover their rare if things turn bad.

It saddens me that you say people lie too much after seeing some Roflcopter'ed posts from "someone" that usually stayed on screen for no more than 1 dmg taken or 10 second (which ever comes first), of course unless there's a dismount gank or super zerging action in his favor.

If thats not a liar then everyone on stratics are all perfect human beings who have never lied not even once in their whole life.
