Still early days mate, no point in getting too far up the ladder too early if you're just going to choke later on. At least now, for your sake, the Dragons aren't the biggest chokers in the comp. Managing to lose two premierships after you have won them has to take the cake.

Oh and how good was lastnight? Dragons won with a team full of ring-ins.
Against the Titans? Without Scott Prince and with a team of 2nd graders? I would of been very surprised if you didn't win, the Titans without prince is like the Cowboys without Thurston or the Knights without Joey back in his day - rudderless.

Canberra stun Dragons in second half

A three-try burst in six minutes has seen Canberra stun St George Illawarra 22-14 in their NRL clash in Wollongong on Sunday.

Up 8-6 just after halftime, the Dragons outfit looked like they could go on with the job until Joel Thompson (51st minute), Jarrod Croker (55th) and Josh Dugan (57th) rocked the home side with quick four-pointers.

Canberra's impressive away win continued their strong record over St George Illawarra.

The green machine haven't lost to the joint venture side since 2007 and have beaten them 11 times for just six losses and one draw.

The Raiders' blitzkrieg began when second rower Bronson Harrison found Thompson running a great line - reward for another dominant performance on the right side by the giant former backrower.

Then centre partner Croker got in on the action after well-timed passes by Josh Dugan and Campese.

More nice work by Campese saw halfback Josh McCrone break away and find Dugan flying on his inside.

The Raiders had opened the scoring in the first half with Campese sending hooker Glenn Butriss over in the 21st minute.

But the Dragons bounced back with debutant Kyle Stanley showing two beautiful touches either side of halftime.

Stanley - the younger brother of former Dragon and Storm player Chase - got a perfect no-look flick pass away to fullback Jason Nightingale who wrapped around him to score in the right corner in the 38th minute.

Four minutes into the second half second rower Nick Emmett broke through some feeble Raiders defence and offloaded for Stanley to give the Dragons a two-point buffer.

But the Raiders' three-try run took the game out of the home side's reach despite a 64th minute effort to Trent Merrin which helped get the Dragons within eight points.

Yeah, though it doesnt suprise me. The raiders have not lost to the dragons since the merger.
You have actually beaten us a couple of times as St Merge, but not in a long time. We have now won 10 of our last 11 games against you.

BUT

It still didnt help you. AND we are still on top... for now...
How didn't it help us? It gave us +2 pts!! Of course it helped us lol

...and we have the bye next week so its basically a 4 point win.

Again, what ya doin all the way down there? Thought 2010 was your year?
Kicking you're ass, thats what we're doin

Like I said, no point getting too far up the ladder if you're only going to choke against the real teams.

bleh. stupid referee >_<
Yeh.... and:

Gidley was useless as was expected.
Idris was even more useless and deserved his try the least of any blues player.
All the Dragons sucked (especially Cooper) except for Morris who was sort of ok.
Lyon did NOTHING. Not his fault, should never have been at 6.
Kimmorley went ok considering he had to do just about everything.
Ennis... did he play?

Needs to be:

1. Hayne OR Dugan
3/4. NOT Cooper or Idris
6. Campo OR Carney
7. Kimmorley (c)
9. Farrah
14. Campo OR Carney (depending on who starts at 6).
Picking Gidley again was so stupid, let alone making him captain. We need a GOOD fullback like Dugan or Hayne. All the (NSW) Dragons sucked except for Morris (I rate him because of his speed which saved a try). Idris isn't even up to NRL standard, shouldnt be anywhere near Origin. Lyon did nothing. They could of picked any number of specialty 5/8s (Campo, Carney, or even Bird or Soward, although Soward would get snapped in half and steam rolled in defence he still would of done more than Lyon). Ennis also did nothing, Farrah deserves another shot after that non-effort by him.

All in all, same old selection problems NSW has had for years.

agree 100% with you. NSW need to get a decent team AND LEAVE IT! There is a reason why Queensland always win. They are practically the same team every year.

Although, I didnt expect much from idris. First game in state of origin, and only being a teenager. They should of left him in the bulldogs for a year or two more to give him a little confidence boost, then maybe pick him.

And why pick kimmorley? He is ****ing terrible, always has been. He cracks under pressure all the time... and they said the half back spot was always a toss-up between johns and him... yeah ****ing right, johns was miles a head of him...

Cooper played horrible, but as suspected, he is horrible. Was hoping he got majorly hurt this game so he couldnt play for the dragons anymore. Morris played ok, but have seen better from him..

In short... the NSW selectors need to pick their act up... and pick the good players, not the players that will bring crowds... they dont need that in state of origin...

Raiders stun Dragons to stay alive

Canberra handed St George Illawarra its biggest loss of the season with a punishing 32-16 win in front of 20,445 fans in the nation's capital on Sunday afternoon.

The league-leading Dragons have not won in Canberra since July 2000, and while they were in for a chance with a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to Brett Morris, the hosts ran in five tries after the break to snatch their third-straight win.

Josh Dugan scooped up a Jamie Soward kick and ran 85 metres to score with barely a Dragons hand touching him, while Terry Campese got one of his own when his own grubber bounced perfectly into his arms for the captain to carry the ball across the line.

When Joe Picker raced away to increase the home side's lead to 26-4 with 14 minutes to play, it looked like victory was inevitable.

But the Dragons refused to lay down and scored two converted tries to give the Raiders a scare and their faithful fans a nervous finish.

Campese was elated after the full-time siren, hailing an "awesome" effort but admitting the Raiders' defence needs fine-tuning.

"[That was] the best win I've been involved in," he told Grandstand.
"I've that a few times this year actually but we're going from behind four points against the best side in the comp and coming back, and throwing the ball around and making breaks.

"Just the way we defended, we let in a few easy tries there, but we'll look at that through the week."

Canberra's chances of playing finals football are looking increasingly good with the two points pushing the Green Machine to the cusp of a top-eight berth, with only an inferior for-and-against keeping them from overtaking struggling Brisbane.

St George Illawarra could have locked up its second minor premiership with a win, but instead the number one spot remains attainable should Wests Tigers or the Gold Coast win their remaining games.

With the Cowboys heading to Canberra in round 25, Campese cited the clash as another opportunity for the club's supporters to turn out in force and cheer the Raiders into the eight.

"[It will be] good to get more next week just keep our season alive," he said.
"[We're] still [taking] each week as it comes, Cowboys next week and hopefully we can get all the fans out to support us.
"You've got to come here with the same attitude that you're playing against the best sides.
"I'm sure we'll look at that through the week and come out here Saturday night and put up a really good performance."

The first half was a crunching affair with big hits wearing down the forward packs on both ends of the park.

Defensive intensity was at its highest when St George looked to increase its lead going into the break, but the green wall held firm.
Canberra had plenty of chances to put points on the board in the first 40 minutes, but it could simply not penetrate the league's most effective defence.

The Raiders should have taken notes from the Dragons' stopping power; Mark Gasnier and Neville Costigan both crossed for relatively unchallenged to somewhat narrow the margin.

Glen Buttriss proved to be the difference after half-time, only getting off the bench after half-time but instantly sparking Canberra into attack with some clever ballwork out of dummy half.

Campese was impressed with Buttriss' showing.

"He's good out of dummy-half and he has come back from injury playing some really good football... and showed where he is this year," he said.
"He's of contract too so hopefully he can get a contract with the boys, because he's such a good talent for the team."

Wayne Bennett's men copped some salt in the wound, with Costigan going on report inside the first three minutes of the match after thumping Raiders lock Trevor Thurling with a swinging arm.

Raiders: 32 (D Vidot, T Campese, J Dugan, J Picker, G Buttriss tries; J Croker 3/5 conversions)
Dragons: 16 (B Morris, M Gasnier, N Costigan tries; J Soward 2/3 conversions)
