On the topic of the Royal Guard

As we continue to improve on our events here on Chessy and bring you new and exciting content we are constantly looking for new avenues by which to enhance the player experience.

We have been steadily running events against the back drop of the Royal Guard for some time, part of which includes the volunteer unit that has been in place. That unit however, has presented us with a bit of a roadblock in its continued execution. On a few of the other shards there exists a system in place which allows for advancement based on attendance and performance to Royal Guard events. On the flip side, while gaining with the Royal Guard there would be a central antagonist for the more "sinister" types. Events offered would give the participant a choice to gain favor with the Royal Guard or with the antagonist, but never gain for both. As one would progress in rank personalized rewards would become available.

Along these same lines we are looking to break the Royal Guard events into a true military unit where people will be broken into squads lead by their superiors. This also would be a way to deal with those who become lost during events, allowing for an in place support structure for everyone and also to streamline communication from the EM RPC running the events to the players

At this stage we are looking for feedback in all areas if this is something Chessy would like to do.

I'm all for it. So far, the Royal Guard events have seemed more like semi-organized hunt outtings than military manuevers, basically an armed mob descending on a location to kill everything in sight

If Scarlet Von Trinsic were to raise a band of resistance, either to contest Queen Dawn or for other nefarious reassons, it would be a nice alternative to fit various playstyles and/or outlooks.

If the two forces were to happen to cross paths at some point with contesting objectives, it could certainly make for an interesting event, hehe

Possibly, it would also be nice to see orders/objectives given out by the leader and the subordinates left to make it happen, rather than a mob being led around.

Equipment/uniform issue could be interesting but would have to be done right, maybe just starting off with GM-quality and (slowly)progressing based on service and achievement.

Dedicated consignment after an introductory/recruitment period to either cause would be a necessity, IMO, to keep it for those who will make a real dedication and avoid spies, traitors, farmers, etc. -- oh wait, like Factions, lol

As I mentioned in a past meeting, and esp since High Seas, having a naval arm, either as an extension or companion group, to each side would also be interesting.

After the last guard outting I attended, I'd been thinking about introducing an organization of volunteers that would still be under the Queen's banner, but in a more organized manner, even if just in an rp perspective, but with a measure of added cohesiveness nonetheless.

Can we have a Healer unit? As much as I like being the front line meat shield, I also like being the (No matter how I put this its going to sound bad) rear support guy. The one who cross heals like ten other players, sets up the classic medical cross (Red cloth cross and white cloth surrounding it) I know the healer unit wouldn't get much glory or items but it is something that I like to do and normally we can get a small group together. I've been told that I am an awesome cross healer and maybe it would be something the 56k connection and laggy players could partake in. Just an idea.

This sounds like a broader idea that could be nice, but I do see one possible problem with it. I know that I prefer to play a character that is interested in his own ends. Mirt for example wants to protect the Ethereal Void Imperium and personally is a follower of the virtues, but he is against the crown as it is currently constitued. That being said some generic relationship with either an order or a chaos (to use the old terms) seems inconsistent. Mirt already has responsibilites on his plate, so do most others. I would like to see EM RPCs interact with us one way or another so that we can side with one force when it serves our interests and side with another when that side does. I for one feel that I don't want to be ruled by anyone, thats why I make my home in player run towns. Its just my two sense, but taking orders from other players who are more my equals sounds less fun then engaging in a more complex struggle for power. But I am glad that we are at least talking about providing an alternative to the guard.

I want to roleplay the evil self serving insane mage, however I am restricted to a single land and to my knowledge almost all events are held in trammel. I can't get to most events or roleplaying situations due to me having an entirely red account. It's unfair to exclude a land because there is some risk involved in going to it. I'm happy to see that paxlair/aryslan are having events in fellucca towns. I understand not everyone enjoys pvp but arn't royal guards supposed to protect the lands from the evil inhabitants? If you are truely roleplaying then you must realize that you wouldn't ALWAYS be safe, the risk of death is what makes your adventures mean more. I also want to say that I frequently visit the player run towns, and 9 times out of 10 there is not a single soul around. I do not know how the trammel side of player run towns works, as I can't go there, but show the fel side some love. I know dragon watch town and templar knights stronghold have had no events what so ever, and the paxlair "event" was a joke, they stood on a roof of a tower for a few minutes then fled to trammel. Aryslan had an interesting concept for a maze house that you fight in, but a lack of "bouncers" caused it to become messy. Either way why can't we have some of this roleplay on the fel side of uo?

So is your post here to make a point or bash other players? You chose to exclude yourself from everything but 10% of UO, you made all your chars red. There are EM events in Fel quite often if you look at the schedule.

Normally I am not one to speak up about felucca but I fail to see what PaxLair, Dragons Watch, Aryslan and Templar Stronghold felucca events have to do with the Royal Guard.

P.S I was rather disappointed at the lack of respect the felucca players showed PaxLair during its 13th anniversary. I cannot even imagine the amount of work that all of those people put into it and how quickly players tried to destroy it. They didn't flee to trammel they went to trammel to finish honoring all those who were part of their community. Those who dedicated time and effort to make things better over the past 13 years!

That's usually the problem with those who choose to "role-play" a murderer. They spend 99% of their time griefing others in fel because the ruleset allows it. I don't personally see how it's fun to be a jerk and try your best to ruin someone else's gameplay, but if that's how one chooses to play, one must expect that any sane person is going to avoid putting themselves in situations where they can be griefed.

I am in the Crux Ansata of Atlantic and it is a blast. The storylines and activities are fun and well organized and there is also a ranking system that is marked by different sashes.

Instead of blowing smoke out your backside, why don't YOU take the time to put an event together??

The Paxlair event locations were put in place before any attacks were made. They were put in place with the KNOWLEDGE that they would be attacked, but that doesn't mean they needed to be part of someone else's concept of "RP", this was not a "battle" event, it was an opening ceremony for 13 total events. They didn't leave because you greifed, they left because the speech was over and moved on to the next event of that evening

The folks in Arslyn could have easily made it so no intruders could have disrupted. They CHOSE to keep the event in the Fel spirit and an openhouse. Sorry that it brought out the "best" that some in Fel have to offer, I guess they thought some folks might have some kind of self control for an hour or two, before reverting to old form.

A number of folks put in a lot of work to put on events in almost every area of Sosaria. Why don't YOU take the time and effort to put one together and enjoy the fruits of your effort. Instead of complaining that others aren't doing enough for you, why not join those that do WORK to make the game more enjoyable.

Make a storyline/event that will entice the Royal Guard to come Felucca. Make an investment in the game yourself.

Now I assumed the royal guard was in some way involved with protection for the player towns, I don't know anything about it because I never see them So my apologies on that I assumed guards well... guarded.

Where is it I find the schedule of events, I'll be honest I rarely look at these boards, I just find it fun to bother people on occassion.

Griefing is a matter of perspective as well, I don't view it as griefing as I rarely res kill, I rarely sit in someones house waiting for them to show up. Also my aim was never to ruin anyone else's game play, however I am sure it happens from time to time, it is to play uo with risks which is almost non existant these days. The worst possible thing to happen if you die in fel is to drop your suit, which means you have to take a few hours of time to create a new one, assuming you didn't ask for it back in which case 9 out of 10 times I would give it back.(if you act right) But this is a matter of perspective and I don't pay for your accounts as you don't pay for mine.

And finally I guess I will have to be active in starting events, give me a week to read up on what you guys are into and I will get something together. I assumed this was something that EM's did, I am still very confused as to what an EM does, if it's not to do events then what do they do?

At any rate my goal was not entirely to **** you all off (just a little bit i guess) but to try to get active in the roleplaying aspect of uo, I apoligize for not researching it more before posting about it, as I said I will work on something to entice the guards to coming out.

Events, well obviously you'll want it in Fel, so the issue becomes thinking of something that will make folks show up, and enjoy themselves. I'd have to say most folks that do come to Fel don't mind dying, it's expected. What they might mind is the rez killing and pointless grief type actions. If your event doesn't work as planned, get some feed back to how to tweak the basic idea.

The Royal Guard, well I'm not in it or totally up on it, but it sounds as if you may want to pursue the idea of those that fight against the Guard. I've heard of the possibility of such a unit.

The EM's main job is to help move along the main story line that the Dev's have developed. The Township series is actually a kind of off-shoot of this and definately not thier main purpose. Further reading in this forum should help you get a better idea.

EM events are posted first, in this forum, they usually do it the first few days of the month in question.
Player run events are normally posted on the Stratics Ches Forum or over on the UOForums calender.

I haven't quite figured out why you have an issue with making a blue if you want to participate in tram events so bad. Here's how I see it. If I wanted to participate in the fel events (like Arsy's casino night, which I participated in), I am expected to go to fel and run the risk of bumping into reds, which I did. I didn't whine about it. I realized the event was held in Fel and it was my choice to go to the redside and participate. I didn't get a "free pass" as you call it to be untouchable for the hour of the event. I wanted to go to the event and was not treated differently just because I'm a blue and wanted to go to an event in Fel. I chose to be blue. So why, just because you chose to be all red, do you need a "free pass"? I'm tired of everyone in fel whining all the time! That is a choice you made! You want to attend events, that's cool. Go to the Fel ones that take place then. And don't pk me. Try refraining from pking during the event and I'm sure more would take place. No sense in holding events that no one will show up for because u know ur just going to die. Anyway, the entire above paragraph that I read was whaa whaa whaa I'm red, don't want to make a blue, but wanna come to tram. BTW, this is why I'm all blue now. Used to pvp years ago, but when I came back from my break of the game, I've noticed ALMOST every red is a whiner.
