July's Best Shot in the Realm, sponsored by Misfits of Society and hosted by Toni Fierce, GM of M!S, brought out a great collection of shooters with 29 residents of Baja vying for the elusive crown, engraved bow, one-million gold, and the chance to join the other monthly winners in the seasons finale, "The Year ending Champion of Champions shoot."
If again we were naming these monthly BSRs, this one could be called ""The Marathon", as the eventual winner and second place shooter had to step up to the line and fire arrows at elusive buttes no less then 6 times, with untold pressure building each and every time as any errant shots could send them to spectator status.
The 1st round found only one shooter falling prey to the buttes, with Nanoc of DWxC [PAX-] being awarded the early out consolation prize of 50,000 gold. This round also showed the crowd gathered that winning would not be so easy with five shooters piercing the buttes with robinhoods and ten others being merely perfect.
The 2nd round started with the evil buttes selecting shooters to fail with talented shooters such as Wrath, Xel the Ronin, Richard Lionheart, and Chango falling by the wayside. Any one of these would of been no surprise to be seen in the finals.
The 3rd round, where only three bulls eyes would move you further in your quest, found 12 shooters still in the hunt. Notable shooters such as llama, Count of Berg ,Cherokee, and Aragon having not missed the bulls eye through three rounds, throwing in robin hoods on occasion, were the favorites at this time to take it all and the crowd was buzzing with anticipation.
The 4th round with a required 200 score via a robin hood and 2 bulls eyes usually brings the event to a close or at least puts you in a narrowed group started. Would Nikita, Urza, or llama just end it now with a repeat of their 3rd round scores? Or would one of the other nine shooters finish it as three others in earlier rounds showed they were capable of putting a 200 on the boards? Well in a not recently seen BSR, not one of these shooters found their mark, and NO 200's were shot. A person in the crowd hollered out "Did no one win?" Toni Fierce, in a quick council of BSR officials, quickly determined that a 5-shot shootout between 4th round shooter would be held, and the highest score would be awarded July's title.
Count of berg , Nikita, Urza, Vengance, Aragon, Dellathan, Bucko, Jonah, llama, McThugger, Cherokee and Someone all had another round to shoot and their nerves were being frayed as the arrows were being selected with care and bow strings were waxed and stretched. Toni Fierce again called them to the lines in pairs for the 5th time, but this courteous group each time wished their opponent good luck and would wait one-by-one to shoot, the crowd cheering each and every one of them. Nikita and Bucko (a crowd favorite) each posted 310's and a 6th unheard of round was scheduled.
In another 5-shot shootout, Nikita edged out Bucko and claimed July's title, the M!S engraved bow, 1,000,000 gold and a prestigious spot in the year's end Champions shoot.
