Moving crates, why do they disappear so quick?

Yeah i'm trying to remove junk from my crate to free up lockdowns. But even when i'm moving stuff from the chests in crates. My crate just goes poof, just this last time UO crashed because i was dragging out some gloves right as the crate took off on me. So uh why is it they do this? Couldn't their be a timer after so long of not using/moving anything from the crate it'd go away again?
