Mastery ?

I havent played in awhile so I could not help my friend with this problem.
He bought a level 2 archery and used it.... I told him he needed a book also, after getting book he tried flaming arrows and was told he was not on the right path? I have no idea what to tell him to do. Any suggestions? Thanks

Gotta select the mastery type from inside the book. Single click on book, choose "switch mastery" then select the one he wants.
