i put up a post earlier and then went off for supper.

just came back and opened the thread again and my post was different.
i had put a bad word, well, not really bad, but ya bad.
anyways the word had been auto changed to a different word.

but here is the thing that took me a minute to figure out.
i thought maybe i had typed the word wrong when i was putting up the original post.
the word i used was 'a female dog' with 'ing' at the end of it.
but in my post it had the word 'pancakes'

now, i like pancakes, so i thought to myself.... i must have had pancakes on the brain when i posted.
not thinking that stratics changed my word.
so i hit edit to change the word so my post would once again make sense.
but in edit mode the original word was there.......
so i check my pulse, thought maybe i was having a stroke or something.
exit edit mode, pancakes is back.

took me a minute before i realized that stratics had changed my bad word to pancakes.
was funny.
thought id share.

now im going to stop pancaking and get some pancakes.
(see what i did there!?!?!)

I like it too, much better than people getting a warning or even a ban for using a language, that don't offend anyone where they come from. We are from all the world and I know I can be a pancake sometime.

People need accept that the internet (due to anonymity) lacks the social strictures that prevent people in real life from running around calling anyone they please a pancake (or worse), so, unless you want your message board to dissolve into a pig pen for trolls you sometimes need to use technology to curtail the abusive/obnoxious before they become disruptive. It's not about being offended, it's about trying to create a civil space for people to interact.

I agree, but the OP simply posted a very very mild 'swear word' (Id even argue it isnt even a swearword) and was being neither abusive nor obnoxious. That type of censorship is definitely way over the top and a nanny state mentality.

@Riyana - I have pitched this idea in the distant past (yeah, once I got admonished lol) to the staff to create a "no holds barred" forum. Charge a $10 yearly fee or some such thing, set a 18+ age on it. Appoint a thick skinned mod who can take action when physical threats, porn etc show up. Then let folks from here discuss any and everything under the sun in any way they wanna. *shrugs* Just throwing the idea out there again is all

Honestly, I don't think it's here so much as it is Facebook and Twitter. But I think that's also the "anonymity" thing - call someone racist/sexist/etc, and once the backlash starts (which it will), either delete/deactivate your account (or make it private), or further try to make an ass out of the person (which has happened to me more than once on Twitter, but I don't take it sitting down); granted, that was done by someone who literally looks like he crawled out from the bridge he was living under. The ones that preach tolerance/fairness/equality are the ones who are just as quick to shut down any differing opinions or discussion, while making unsubstantiated claims without backing them up.
