There have been discussions how the hardcore and the casual player going to equal themselves out gaining experience wise. Guild Wars 2 wont have a rested experience like some MMO's out there they made a system with achievements.
There are three different types of achievements. WvW, PvE, and PvP will contribute into your achievements. You can also do non combat things in the game to gain achievements like as trading and mini games. Each achievement will be divided into tiers. Once you compete a tier you will be awarded with achievement points. As your gain points, they will be reflected in your account’s achievement score. Your score can be seen by friends and guild members to compare scores and your achievement progress over all.
Daily achievements will reset every 24 hours. Daily are short things like how many monsters you killed. Monthly achievements will be a little harder then daily achievements and it will consist of many things you do within the game. When a player meets their goal in achievements they will get rewarded gold and experience orbs. Monthly achievements reset each month. They will contribute to a special chest as the reward for monthly goals.
These are no quests and a player is not forced to do these but have a choice and get rewarded if they choose to do them.
