How scary...it looks like a bottomless pit from the aerial photo. You live near this famous sinkhole I think, LD, that is now a lake in the middle of Winter Park, FL. 320 ft across, and 90 ft deep!

I think it does promote siege. that hole is a representation of what this shard has become.
