"EX POR!" The tarnished cell door unlocked itself.
Mason walked bare foot into the darkness, it was pitch black, not even the moon lit his pathway. His breath came in short sharp bursts matching his foot steps as he made his way to the cell next to his. He would save the child who gave him hope.
Mason approached the cell, it was empty, no child. The window allowed little light to enter the cell. Outside, he could hear the wind howling as the rain beat the dirt into wet mud. The roof leaked and the only sign of movement came from the rats the size of small dogs.
"How could this be, I heard the child. The voice?" Mason placed his palm on his forehead.
Mason's eyes closed, was he going insane, was this another dream? He knew he hadn't long as he heard the noise of approaching footsteps behind him.
Mason moved with silence, carefully moving along the small narrow hallway. Tension lurked as he knew the guards could catch him at any moment. If he was caught, he was sure it would mean his death.
Cries from other captives could be heard ricocheting throughout the halls of the underground cells. Mason rounded the corner and stopped dead in his tracks. A group of soldiers stood gossiping by the door. Mason quickly back pedaled around the corner and waited.
"Do not hesitate, you know what must be done." A child's voice echoed from behind him.
Mason closed his eyes. His mind became focused. He knew what his fate would be if he were to get caught. Mason charged toward the guards, small stones dug into his feet as he picked up speed.
"Vas Flam" Mason shouted, a large ball of fire shot from his palm and into the chest of an unfortunate guard. Mason carried forward with his momentum barreling into the second, knocking him back. Mason could hear the sound of metal crashing upon stone. Taking the guards sword Mason pushed it deep in the startled guards stomach. To Masons surprise it slid into the mans belly with ease, Mason attempted to remove it, as the third guard swung his blade toward Mason, creating a shallow parting of flesh off his right arm.
"Por Ort Grav" A bolt of lightning shot from Mason's fingertips and into the guards orbital bone.
Pain colored Mason's face as he watched the last guard fall to the ground motionless.
Mason collected the keys from the guard, his eyes glazed over with fear. Soon these walls would no longer hold him prisoner.
Mason opened the door to the prison and fled into the cold wet darkness of the night.
"Where am I? Where is home?"
