Kingdom Under Fire: The Queen of Britannia has been Murdered!

Queen Dawn the Valiant - Third Monarch to the Britannian People and Wearer of the Jeweled Crown of Cantabrigian - has been murdered.

It appears her husband - Ors of Yew - delivered the killing blow while under the ensorcelment of the Demon of Magincia. When freed of the enchantment he turned the weapon upon himself in guilt and died at her side.

The full report will be delivered soon.

The Town Guard of Britain is expected to declare Martial Law in the Capitol. Ships are barred from entering and leaving the harbor. Trade has ceased. The Royal Guard is being recalled from the Abyss and the surrounding Garrisons.

The Lord Captain is expected to wield control in the Capitol until order is restored.

So Queen Dawn and Ors follow Clainin, Lady Aino Nystad, Casca and Bartleby into the line of LORE characters murdered by our Dev Team!

Good Grief! Who is next?

Of that list, only Dawn and Clainin were lore characters killed by the Dev team.

Casca was introduced at the start of a storyline and killed at the end - quite a long-running character, but one created by the current devs and whose death was planned from the very start by those same devs; hardly an arbitrary culling of a beloved canon character.

Ors was much the same, except not even as well-established as Casca. I left in December and I hadn't heard about him, so he was, what, three months old at the most? Three months out of a thirteen-year-old game does not constitute a lore character.

Aino was Seppo's character, not a universal one, and so was Bartlebe (who was technically actually created by the players). The dev team had nothing to do with them or their tragic demises.

Yes, the current dev team has killed a few lore characters (with what I feel is appropriate ceremony; Clainin's death was impressive as all hell), but they're hardly going on a rampage with the intention of destroying priceless RP storyline artefacts.

I tend to find the most memorable moment in a characters life is how that character dies. Even more so if it was a tragic or heroic end.

The Death of Dawn was a tragic one. You can imagine the joy she must have felt to hear her husbands voice. The trust that all would be right once more. The shock and sadness she must have experienced as that blade was thrust into her.

Imagine being the man standing there. Holding the knife. Staring down at her as the ensorcelment fades.

The Death of Aino was also tragic. And her death united the Britannians in a vengeful search for Trubo Saius. Remember that it was the knowledge that Clainin was in danger that prompted Yalp to call the Factions together and defeat the Shadowlords in Trinsic.

So too will the demise of Dawn call for something. Retribution.

Lord Grey Eagle - a Defender of the Kingdom - gave this short speech tonight before the Defenders launched themselves against the Bane Chosen in New Minoc.

"...To the Loyal Defenders of Britannia,
Let us not despair for the loss of our Great Queen.
Rather, let us rally to her Spirit.
For the time has come upon us,
To avenge and rid Britannia of the Bane Chosen,
forevermore..."
