i currently do not have that weapon but i make new stuff about every other day so could possibly pop one out

i think that people use them for 1 of 2 reasons:
1. Being that they have high dps
2. The specials you can use with them
they are only .25 speed slower than a regular mace
regular mace = 12-14 dmg
diamond mace= 14-17 dmg
put it this way: you use this mace have the concusion blow special primed...explo flame strike and say the wep hits em too....most likely they are either one shot or very very close to it.

Unless you're carrying tactics on your mage you won't be using the specials.....
nor will u have the wep skill for the weps were talking about in this thread.
regarding cook oces question any weapon is good for this template. basically using a -mage 1 handed wepon with + magery jewels allows for pots to be used in pvp yet having the same effct as staff of magi yet being able to fit meditation into a template EASily
