a note found inside the stomach of a troll

Heard from a town crier early this morning:

A tattered bit of clothlike paper was pulled from the stomach of a troll today. It was torn, tattered, and stained with the blood of the troll and of its misfortunate former carrier. On first glance it looked like little more than a rag, but on closer inspection it seems to be a page torn from a journal. The remaining legible words are written in the concise, flowing script of an educated mage:
