A Letter from Live

So I felt like I had to reactivate my main account yesterday so my keep wouldn't fall down (was at about 88 days unpaid or so), and spill all my goodies onto the ground for idocers to cart off and sell on their vendors.



I feel it was $12.99 (plus $1.04 tax!

) totally and entirely wasted to be honest.


Reasons I play Wow now instead of UO:


1. Not a damned thing was or has been done about duped clothing; necro robes, duped gold Brit guard sash clothing, etc.

2. EA employees still playing favorites with certain players; Jeremy encouraging players to participate in 'other players' events here on Stratics (show me the proof that these 'other players' are trustworthy enough for an EA employee to authorize such a thing because I for one have my doubts).

3. BUY UO GOLD CHEATS HACKS HINTS POWER LEVELING DOT COM: named books characters spam all over Luna bank. Might as well go shopping irl because I felt like I was in the mall or watching tv commercials rather than immersed in an online fantasy world.

4. Dyed armor in nearly every shade of the cloth dye tubs, but only available to the special few who had GM friends, relatives or were GMs themselves? Oh this should be listed with EA employees playing favorites shouldn't it?

5. A large tower on Fel Ice Island named KFC and Koolaid Inside Colored Welcome which still stands although it has been reported months ago as being offensive (racial stereotyping). Hey EA/MYTHIC please put a warning on UO's website and any future boxed items and adverts that those of a certain nonCaucasian race are not welcome in UO. Unless they enjoy being the butt of certain tired old racist jokes?

6. No time for a fullfledged check into scriptingville, but I see some scripters houses that still stand and are in no visible stage of decay, so same old same old apparently.


7. Few players.



I am ashamed now that I even mentioned the name of UO to anyone in Wow, how embarrassing to have to explain to them why all of the above is allowed to continued and why they should waste time trying to play a game with so many flaws.

And still no one in WoW that I spoke to had ever heard of UO.

The difference is now I think that is a good thing.

Cant confirm that.
While playing LotRO i met tons of bards playing Ultimas music on their lutes^^
And i met tons of people in WOW which heard about Ultima.
Its true, many people wouldnt touch UO because bugs and old graphics. But why on earth should i care about them? That kind of people wouldnt have touched a game in the 80's. They are casual gamers which think they are hardcore

Its stupid to compare WOW with UO.
WOW makes you think you are cool because you can hit 8 buttons and read a gaming magazine to solve a simple dungeon.

UO is hard and within VR tradition of elder games. You make a mistake and your arse gets kicked. Not like games today, which are balanced to death and easy enough so a 9 year old could win while on cannabis.

Cheating sux, but why should i care?
Even if a game has 10 million subscribers, you usualy dont talk to more then 15 guys per session plus your guild members.
I simply dont care about cheaters and scripters. Its a f.... game and not RL.

By the way, today i lost darkened sky and heart of lion. I could bite my arse but i know theres a chance to find better stuff for less money. And thats why UO is playable even after 13 months. In WOW you play until lvl 70 and thats it.
High end stuff is soulbound. You reach lvl 70, get your armor set and then?
Booooring...

Unless I know the vendor house as reputable, if I see more then 2 or 3 of a limited commodity item, I figure something is not kosher and I won't buy there.

That also forces me to bypass hard-working players who have simply amassed a lot over time and need to dump it. Oh well.

Paris? If UO is so distasteful to you why in the world didn't you just walk away and let the keep drop? Seriously ... I did that once because of AoS ... gave away a fully furnished Fel villa on Fire Island and walked off. Do it.

You say "Duper" but I was the one that bought the xfer tokens, and xferred to 3 different shards to buy 200 barbed kits over a 3 week period, and you know what, I make 500k per so I'm going to end up with 100m less 6 xfer tokens (40m profit). I spent time, money, and resources doing it and had nothing to do with duping. Perhaps if you took your head out of your ass and stopped whining you'd learn a little about how the game is played.

Collecting, winning, or looting, a good item, an arty, or buying a rare robe, and then finding the vendor next door to the runic kit vendor, has dozens of em on it for sale. Kinda ruins the sense of pride in that too! But duping doesn't affect my gameplay! riiiiight,

People say, it isnt about the items, it shouldnt be about the items...well it is nowdays! Community seriously doesnt exist today, not like it used to. There is very very little added to this game, in terms of community building. There is an inordinate amount of stuff added in terms of Items! So don't blame peeps for bein item hoes, instead of community leaders...it's the direction EA/Mythic wants us to go, and we are being shepherded down that path constantly.

I hope they do run live events, I hope they do something (serious) about scripting and duping. I personally hope they throw away all the repair deeds and make us all go back to the forge and tailor shops, where the tailor and smiths (player chars) will have an opportunity to interact with us again, rp with us again, and be useful again.

Furthermore it is an extreme abuse of your power to offer it, you are a moderator, affiliated with EA. Fine hold your staff to the same rule. I posted (not a troll) my boycott. Your staff decided to make inflamatory and insulting (to me and other users here) remarks about our boycott. This was not respectful. I'm so sick and tired of hearing you boards excuses on its unprofessional behavior.

I run one of the largest consumer publications in the world. I know a little bit about website, moderators, and the news industry. Stratics is supposed to be about product news (something I'm extremely familiar with). Your people, whether they are working directly for you, or working as moderators are supposed to adhere to standard practices when it comes to representing a bone-fide news agency. This means you are supposed to provide the facts, not your opinion.

I on the other hand am here in the capacity of user/player/customer. When you designate a section like the Rants section, do not have your people come in here and make inflamatory comments and give opinion that is contrary to the thread. It is ok for users to do so, but not for staff. They were asked NICELY to stop and go away.

So now you take their side? Good job. You show where this unprofessional behavior is coming from. Here is what I'm going to do, in my professional capacity (industry related) I'm going to contact the real staff at Stratics and I'm going to have a long talk with them. Given the fact that when I write editorial 110 million people globally read my thoughts I'm sure I can get an ear.

Let's see what type of policy changes we can effect here as well shall we?

I bet you make beds for a living at a hotel. I don't stay at hotels they are filthy, when I travel I stay at friends, family, or I houses that I own/friends own. I assure you I am extremely considerate.

I find it amusing that you feel that the customer is not always right. You are a customer, you should get what you pay for. We sit here and look at ads so that these people have jobs, we contribute with our time by posting in threads. Without us they have nothing, and we are supposed to be more important then they are. The reason I went all out like that was to make a dramatic presentation to that effect since they have obviously misplaced this information. (Much like their affiliate EA has.)
