"Oh Christmas tree, oh christmas tree ..." she continues humming the tune while she sat there gazing at the magificent Giving Tree that had magically appeared one day (after the seeds had been planted which the elf didn't know about). She seemed to be wondering why no one was guarding the tree from those pesky little insects that invaded it from time to time. She continued to hum to herself as she contemplated the days events and smiled as she remembered the Tree Guardian's appearance. So many people there she had hesitated entering the enclosed area for fear of being trampled on by so many hoofs and even dragon's tails! She had remained outside watching and placing her little gifts on the ground, as humble as they might be, in hopes that the spirit of the season found it's way into everyones heart.

She looked upon the tree once more and sadden slightly having heard rumors that it would soon be gone. She closed her eyes tightly and made her Christmas wish. Her wish was a simple one and not very tasking she thought, she was sure Santa could grant one tiny wish to this tiny elf. All she wanted for Christmas was for the tree to live on, perhaps as a reminder that the joy of giving was what Christmas was all about. She smiled and looked up into the highest branches of the tree where the fruit seemed to ripen and begin to fall. She jumped as fast as she could to catch it, but alas she had only drifted into a slight sleep, for as she tripped on the log, she woke up.

She giggled to her self as she dusted off and looked upon the tree once more. Maybe Santa would be to busy to grant her wish and that would be alright, but if she could she would steal a branch or two before the tree vanished for all time. She craved into her mind a memory of the First Giving Tree she had ever seen, now she had the image in her mind from now until eternity.

She climbed up into the safety of the branches and promptly fell asleep.

She blinked a few times as she woke and looked around as the cold breeze fluttered through the leaves of the majestic Giving Tree. Suddenly she realized where she was and frantically looked around hoping no one had found her hiding place. She had only stayed there in hope of seeing the fruit ripen and perhaps catch a close glipse of the Tree Guardian.

She sat up and stretched then shivered violetly as a cold gust of winter fluries lapped at her skin. She had decided to stay there for the time being except at thos designated times that the Guardian usually appeared. Her mind cluttered with thoughts that all this soon would be gone. She gazed up high to the top of the tree then slowly examined each branch and twig, the kaleidoscope of color seemed to blend then explode bright red and pinks. Soon the time came for the appearance of the Guardian, she knew this by the gathering crowd below and she managed to climb down and away before being seen.

She went and gathered her tiny gifts and returned to her usualy place behind the Tree but still outside the fence. She gazed up at the gathered and smiled wishing them Happy Holidays as they moved by, some would return the sentiment while others simply move on. The time for the Guardian's appearance came and went, she lowered her eyes with a frown on her crimson lips which slowly formed into a pout. Then she smiled widely and looked about as the gifts she had brought were taken up and she brighten thinking maybe the Guardian had had some unexpected shopping to do.

She knew there would be more times to see the guardian this day so she gathered what gifts were left and waited as the crowd slightly disappointed disappeared. At the first chance she got she ran to the tree and climbed back into the high branches to wait. She must have dozed off for the next thing she knew she was tumbling down the tree's branches and she heard a loud thump as she landed on the cold ground. A rain of color, mostly her gifts plus a few leaves, landed harmlessly about her and one last harp landed on her head. She burst into a fit of laughter rolling on the ground then she gathered them all, a glance was given about then a sigh of relief as she found herself to still be alone. Soon the gathering of people began and she posted herself once more at her place to wait.

The crowd seemed to get restless as yet again the Guardian failed to appear. The elf on the other hand began to worry and fear. It had been said that he would not always appear but she had never thought it meant more then once at a time and it had been two times now that he had been gone. She looked toward the Tree knowing it would all soon disappear but her hope didn't falter as she gathered her things.

She brighten slightly knowing they had one more chance this day and she looked toward the crowds silently. She heard in the distance someone say that perhaps greed had kept the Guardian away. She could not imagine anyone being greedy, it was the season of giving wasn't it? She decided to wait once more for the final alloted time the Guardian was to appear surely he would come this time she thought, wouldn't he? When the Guardian didn't show up at all for the third time that day the she began to worry that maybe he had been kidnapped by the evil people of this world.

She also wondered if perhaps the Guardian had been offended by her scent in the tree the night before...a turmoil of thoughts went through her mind as she lowered her head in prayer.."May all be well with the world, may the lives of those dear to us be guarded and safe, may all the people enjoy the gifts bestowed by love and please may the Guardian of the Tree return to us safe and sound."

She gazed at the beautiful tree as she began to walk home having decided that it was better to be safe before the fire tonight or at least until the Guardian's return. Half way home she realized it was Christmas Eve and a smile began to form at the corner of her lips...
