70's suit and Resisting spell Why take both ?

I see lots of players at 120 resist spell and wearing an all 70's resist suit is there any reason for it ?

What I can tell from uoguide and uo wiki, those dont add up. Both source are clear, either you get 44 resist is you only have the skill at 120 or if your suit/part of your resist on suit are under that. but, if your suits gets up to 45 ( and all the way to 70 ) the skill will not be used.

So why ? Is there any hidden mechanics / side advantages not mentionned ?

Resist spells helps against paralyze, curse, mana drain/vamp, some necro spells, a mystic spell that takes off a beneficial ward...
may be more thats off the top of my head.
