Youtube, Like Facebook and Twitter, announced that they will decide which sources of news are trustworthy and will be displaying said news to you on youtube seemingly with no options to change the sources or opt out. There is an extremely effective and simple tool to allow you to block the channels and content of whomever you wish with one right click and button push. It's called simply "Video Blocker" and it's a browser addon. Here it is for Firefox - Video Blocker – Add-ons for Firefox
Parents especially should have this. If you find one channels or one creator or one subject not OK for kids you don't need to make sure the kids are logged on to have videos filtered, the video blocker doesn't require anyone be logged in to modify what appears.
It's slick. Besides being simple to use(Right click over a video title or channel name and zap) it literally ditches the element the video would have appeared in so it never shows up at all. Other videos on youtube collapse to fill the void so the page doesn't look broken.
While big tech thinks people need fewer options when it comes to what they are forced to see tools like video blocker give you back control. Personally I block the most dramatic youtube "celebs" too, lol. Big tech may want to control what you see and decide when you will see it for their own reasons but I believe you need to let people have the final say, this gives you a bit of control back in what you see(or rather don't).
If you don't know the blocker is on you'd never know it's working, the implementation is seamless. The blocker is arguably a feature that should be built into the site already but isn't.
