Your personal best theft. Or most memorable. Or both!

So I'm curious what everyone's best steals are. Naturally it would be based on the time it was stolen.

Some of mine were: Black sandals! Always wanted a pair of my own when they were a prized item. Finally got a pair :D

Fast forward a ways to AOS for my most memorable:
Some guy thought it would be fun to play with thieves while sitting on a community moongate. He had an uninsured Legacy of the Dread Lord that he just got and was arming and disarming it, teleporting through the gate, and taunting the thieves.
I targeted it, walked up, waiting for the moment and snagged it without being detected.
Suffice to say he taunted the wrong thief and was not very happy and made a scene :p
He didn't congratulate me but the other thieves did, hehe.

That recalls to this one, days long before he was thief. Many thieves at moongates, and banks. You could almost not approach a bank lol.

I stole the life of Sunsword when he made a visit to Siege. For some reason he came without being yellow. It was fun, I complained about how thieves were handled by the developers, then gave him a quick swipe of my poisoned blade. Within seconds, his corpse laid in front of me.

And that's how I won UO...la

Hmmm, not being an old school thief my steals are relatively new.

I think my favourite steal was my first 120, I had been in despise tracking my targets and went in for the snoop...all i could see in the pack were 110's and a 115, i decided not to steal...just in case, so glad i did!...somehow i became revealed and the chase began!

All the way around despise (3 archers and a dexxer) into terethan keep in the star out again...i couldnt leave becuase i had disarmed one of the archers...on maybe the 4th tim into tera from the star room i stopped and hid...and archer(bear in mind it should be obvious im a thief by now!)stam blocked himself trying to reveal me, i popped his pack and what did i see!!

120animal lore!!

Select target...steal...bam!!!

What a rush...took me another 5mins of chasing to get out with it...but sufficed to stay i did!

My most valuable steal was an oak leaf cloak [replica] but there was no chase so no fun!

I played from 1998-1999

My best theft? House deeds lol. I got a ton of them too. We used to just hang out next to the vendor and when someone walked up I would open their bag and wait for the deed to appear. I'd grab it and hand it to my friend. When the guards came and killed me the deed was already long gone.

We used to sit outside the bank with our vault open... grab an item and throw it in the bank before the guards killed us. I quit with 2 million gold after only 1 year of playing.

I miss the good ol days

The best one i did is undoubtedly the one at the top of the totw sticky (rarara is my pre-bork stratics account).

Another good one is from Europa on the day they changed moongates to allow facet changing.

For anyone that wasnt around then you got a sudden rush of people that had never been to fel before (aka noobs!).

Being bit bored i was hanging round brit gate terrorising the newbies coming through, and i managed to steal a blank rune off some guilds GM (massive theft i know).

He proceeds to attack me and after a few minutes of chasing me around 4 more of his buddies turned up (all of us were unmounted and all of us appeared to be on 56k at the time). so i just legged it south into the woods, over the course of the next hour they basically split up and were scouring the place looking for me, and i ended up killing the lot of them using nothing but the poison spell (and stealing their bandages).

Only ended up with a few suits of gm armour but i had a good time doing it!

My best and most memorable thefts have always been sigils.

I've stolen millions upon millions off individuals, but none can compare to the challenge of stealing a sigil out of a well defended base.

I'd have to say my best was a year or two ago, in SL base.....

I counted at least 14 defenders. Most were necro mages or tamers, and there was a detective there as well (GM track/detect). They had candelabras, bagballs, and fields out the arse. My faction buddies had been pushing against the defense upwards of 8 hours, and had thus far failed. It was only 2 hours until sig corruption (was 10 hours to corrupt sigs at that time).

I must have made a dozen attempts to penetrate the defense at the beginning of the very long choke-point that makes up SL. After a while, I managed to get through their candelabras and slip through a dropping e-field. As I did, I set off a faction gas trap, revealing me. I bolted. I had to move several bagballs along the way, but as fast as I could I made my way up the stairs and into the SL sig room. I grabbed the Brit sig, turned, and ran, never wasting the time to hide.

I met the defenders in the 1-tile choke point...mashing my pile of refresh pots I got through, ran down the stairs...the exit was e-fielded. Down into the catacombs I went, with a dozen or so people chasing me.

To make this now long story shorter.... I was e-fielded onto a single tile after being tracked, and nox fielded. I managed to get to unicorn form, and started chucking my conflag and explode pots as fast as I could (at the time I had GM alchemy). I managed to red-line the mage casting on me, and kill the archer with him.

I kept chucking and chucking pots until the e-fields dropped, and I ran. I pushed through archers, a greater dragon, mages, and too many para fields to count. In the end, I made it out of this gauntlet of a base...I was under attack for 25 minutes, only managing to spend about 30 seconds of that hidden. I saved Britain, which remained in TB control for long after as SL didn't mount another huge defense before their guild fractured. I also earned 15 or so kill points on a thief, at a time when 15 kill points was awesome for any PvP template.

My best steal ever was without a doubt.....hmm....
The more I think about it I ponder the thought of what is really "best". Thats a pretty subjective word. However you wish to read it, its still basically an opinion. We all know what they say about those.

I guess at this moment my best steal would be this thread! :)

I have two off of the top of my head.

First was when my thief was red (it happens) and some spawners were at Yew gate. One of them was talking trash to some other guy so I took this as an opportunity to snoop him. He had a 120 healing PS so I took this as an opportunity to make some more cash. Quickly nabbed it and ran away. Funny thing was that I was on foot, and the steal wasn't an unnoticed one. Luckily, the guy was to busy arguing to realize what happened or call guards.

The second one was when a guy I know stole a voice of the fallen king. I also had the item on my last target so I quickly nabbed it from him. Just to have him steal it back and bank it.

Oh, that is a name I remember. But lets put it this way. How many people do you think have stolen a voice of the fallen king, just to have stolen within a second, just to steal it back in another second?

I was at fel skara bank years ago. I convinced a guy named Clef to unbless his arcane shield, and then stole it. That is when Bandit, a friend/guildmember of mine walks up. Seeing the shield uninsured and equipped on me, he says, "When'd you get that arcane?" I laughed and said, "About 5 seconds ago." Clef was pissed, needless to say (keep in mind this was years ago when arcanes were worth 10mil or more). I told him I'd make a deal with him. I told him to remove his voice of the fallen king, place it in his backpack uninsured, then run from me around the bank twice...if he still had it afterwards, I'd return the arcane to him. At first, he tries to trick me by placing it in his pack insured (I had him snooped from a good distance without him knowing). I had the voice targetted. He finally mans-up, and places it in his pack uninsured. I steal it just as it hits his pack. He says, "Ok, ready," just as I say, "Done." Me and Bandit laugh, then I notice the voice vanish from my pack. I quickly steal it back from Bandit and toss it in the bank. He was jokingly stealing it, so it was np (at least to my knowledge he was joking, lol). So we laughed, and Clef was out 2 arti's.

Do I think you're Bandit? Ehhhh, maybe. But I won't push the subject in case you're trying to keep it a secret. I mean, it is possible that the voice double-steal could've happened twice. Very likely, actually.

P.S. I have 2 pics of the steals. I'm on my phone, so when I can get to a working computer, since mine is fried, I'll post them.

I used to have a dexxer named Crim, but I got rid of him awhile ago. I usually start and quit UO once a year, so that might be why you haven't seen me. That and Bandit is currently a necro bush wrestle mage who is red and is generally not welcome at Yew gate.

Ah, i see. I can't even get on right now, lol. Btw, here's the pics...

Notice in the second pic, the journal tab is far up. This was taken right after i banked it after having to steal it back from your sneaky ass lol. The pics aren't too entertaining. For some reason, back then i took pics with my paperdoll open, not sure why...all it did was clutter the screen and block the view. Oh well. Memories...eh?
