How'd you pick it? What meaning or significance does it hold?

I've been thru several incarnations, but my current is Kano.

My fiance is Filipina, and Americans used to get called Kano, as in "americano". Tho these days it may refer to any foreigners- like 3 "kanos" that were from Germany. Not a slur.

So- where'd you get your moniker?

Freja was my first char in UO, born first time on Atlantic. Freyja - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, I spell it the danish way.
She is much what I wanted my toon to be. She was never meant to become red or become a vampireness but she got her own life and history. There is books in the Young Travelers Inn, that tells Freja's story.

Tina Tink was born to be a crafter and that se become :)
Red Rose and Rosalia is just sisters in my char familie and they are much like Tina, just with different skills
Crazy Elf was born to be a thief but that seem to be a role I can't play, I'm to nice for that.

Two suggestions I give my kith & kin:

----play a toon ya like to look @ (gay boys love costumes *totally stereo-typical here* - lesbians adore knights lol *winks* Hetero-Guys like to play gals, especially PvPers, because "...if your gunna look @ somethin this much ya gotta like what yer seein and she's HOT" <quote from my brother, lmao *waves to fam*.

----use a name to dictate the play-style: warrior=savage; serf=service/crafter/gatherer; slave=thoughtless abandon to the brain ie alcohol, music, art, medicine, healing....*stops rambling*

Just my OOC 2GPs *smiles*

I was trying to think of a name for my first tamer and kept getting stuck. A lot of tamers on GL had some outragous names, because by the time they reached their 4th or 5th char the good ones were taken. Jasmine was named after Jasmine, my cat, because no matter what I told her to do she still did what she wanted anyway. Seemed fitting for my young tamer.

I use to watch my older brother play UO, and so that is how I got started. He gave me one of his accounts that already had a character on it. I decided to keep that character since the name, "Krystalynn" was a very pretty name. After she was trained up to be a functional mage/tamer/tailor, I created my very first character from start to finish. I named her "Krys's Kiss", because I wanted people to know who I am no matter what character I was playing. Plus she was an archer, and I thought the name would be fitting for an archer. I love those two girls! :)

After my brother and his friends left UO, I decided to start on a new shard... Sonoma was the shard I created "Sage". She was suppose to be a tamer, I got as far as maybe mid 60's in taming/lore before I decided that was not the shard for me. She is in her mid 60's in magery/taming/lore, but she rides on top of a pure mare. If I remember correctly, I think it took about a hundred tries to transfer the mare to me. :D

So after a couple more shards of nothing... I came upon Siege Perilous... I went with the name "Raja" because I thought it sounded really cute. It is the tiger's name on Aladdin. So I did not realize it was a male tiger until I was already well into my skills, so I just stayed with the name. Now everyone knows me as Raja...

:mylittlepony:Thanks!

P.S.
I have a Raja on every shard for holiday trading...

I like the name Raja. Cats are general female, so don't worried, about the name belong to a male tiger

My son named my first ever UO character, which he helped me create when he was home on leave from the USN. HE got me my first computer, bought me UO, so we could hang out in some game
when he was far far from home.
He named my first ever 1998 chr. on Chesapeake a warrior template, Queen Zen
and he said 'she is so you mom !'
He also got me on Stratics Forums too, at the same time, forum name, same as first ever UO chr.

I have said it before, told my kids the tales too, when my folks maybe were going broke in rl with this or that factory closing, my mom always sewn me pretty dresses and outfits, to always make sure her lil girl, first born child always *felt like a princess or a lil queen* no matter how poor, they were at times.
That explains the Queen part of my 1st UO chr. name.
The ZEN came from the times my kids as they grew up, acted up or confused in behavior,
I would oft calmly comically take them to the side, and mimac a tv show; 'kung fu', zen type of chr. saying thought provoking things to them to make them, rethink about their actions, with my intro being,
[you have much to learn lil grasshopper !]

Thus my son whom created my first ever UO chr. named her... Queen Zen.

Any [Hughes of Gray] chr. I made on ANY shards, was simply named for us seeing UO in hues of grays.
He oft becomes my *dead man* walking recon spy guy, whom I killed or got killed to go exploring UO new expansions or others and their guilds or factioners, in DEAD MODE ! He became my SPY long before there ever was *stealth* as a skill in game, and well no one can pk, a DEAD MAN WALKIN either !

My Miranda here was simply named after (the Miranda rights !)
I knew as a vet on this forum, and on Chesapeake shard, from way back in the pre tram day,
that 'maybe' as an established UO vet *elsewhere* that I might or maybe be judged harshly coming, HERE.
Thus I figured...
Siegers, you have the right to remain SILENT, anything you say against me in my old rl and UO age,
can and maybe will be USED against YOU !
Judge not lest ye too be judged !

Upped magery on my Miranda,
to the highest I could, 115.0, with all her craft skills,
to also help res. the dead here, if the game mechanics, let my chr. do so
or gate em, to Chaos, if needed.
Figured there'd be dead peeps here, of all hues, often, on Siege. :)
Named my first chr. here Miranda, the wandering healer, res'er, crafter !

And yep, my first ever PK chr. when trammel first came into existance,
I named RainbowBrite. I figured, if I made a chr. that looked and was named like
some *carebear* trammel born UO person, there'd be die hard feluccans as myself,
whom would think any dork named RAINBOWBRITE had to be a trammie in felucca and they would attack with some lol...and I used her to PK with ! I had a riot playing her.
OMFG she is NOT a trammie...she is one of US as they died to some rainbow hued carebear looking comic of a chr. that surely looked quite TRAMMIEFIED !
My concept of deception, in UO !
A murderer chr. post new trammel, named RainbowBrite !
Kept her blue working off counts for as long as I could, to keep looking *innocent* and newb stupid, but in the end, I got tired of working off the counts and kept her red which then defeated my main purpose of *deception* LOL

My first, and primary character was Barefoot Princess a tamer archer on Catskills back in the beginning of UO. Then I went over to Atlantic to join a Celtic role playing guild and there my guild title was "Branwyn". When that guild broke up I played a while on Europa with Branwyn in the Knights Templar Guild. (Obviously I enjoy rp when I can find it in game). But they fizzled and I returned to Cats where some of us old-timers formed our own guild and carried on. When we got tired of guild/alliance politics on Cats, we came to Siege and found a home here surprizingly, so Branwyn of Errol has been here for 8 yrs anyhow. Chose the name based on Celtic traditions and a rl place in the Great North Woods of NH for a character who is a bit wild under a subdued persona; student of nature and magic. Here on Siege I am a very stealthy mage/tamer who enjoys hunting with my dragon or dreadmare with guildmates and also love designing and decorating houses. My second character is Desdemona Lyre, the "Pirate Princess" who I began to take advantage of new template options on SP. I had a bard in mind initially but found myself really enjoying the role of a stealth mage/mystic with poisoning skill. So I am staying with that. This combo makes Des a good backup to keep people going in a tough group hunt.
Branwyn keeps her wild side under control in the presense of guild leaders and the general public on the shard, but Desdemona is unabashedly fresh. and does not hesitate to "push the envelope" of guild protocol.

Brother and I started UO together back in 98 on Chessy. Our first toons were Rikaz and Rikax. Then once we got tired of the dexer thing, he made a tamer(Yedax) and I made a mage(Malcate). Played Malcate until I sold the account, then remade him.

all the names I use have roots in past role plays and stories I have been involved with. LUka has taken on a new life at least twice since I have been playing here, but the name itself originated elsewhere. I like using last names for two reasons. One to insinuate through family that we are the same person, And to further individualize a name that someone else may want to use. Yes I know Luka is actually a male name in other countries, but that is pretty in-character, from a certain point of view.

Although a lot of people misinterpret my name to be perverted in some sense or another, my original intentions was in reference to baddies in a fight. "when i come to fighservet, iSpredEm all over Despise or something of that sense. Not the naughty way like some perves assume for whatever reason ;P. I mean its not like im big pimpin, im married and have a kid due in soon enough..lol

Ginsu – Crafter.
I played LS. And was bank sitting a lot and was getting board with the game.
A friend read on U-Hall that siege needed crafters. So I wanted a name that had something with crafting.
I was going to make swords and I think we all know the old TV show about the sharpest knife
(it slices it dices – it can even cut thru a tin can.)
So Ginsu was the name I picked.

Factotum – Myst/weaver/Mage
my vet account 160 month.. I wanted ever skill out there on this guy. I looked up on google. “jack of trades”.
And come up with Factotum……
(Wikimedia) A factotum is a general servant or a person having many diverse activities or responsibilities. The word derives from the Latin command (imperative construction) fac totum ("do/make everything").

Nessa – Bard\Tamer
Really cant remember how I got this name I just wanted a girl tamer. I Googled girls names and found Nessa

Gibbs – Gargoyle/Myst/ Thrower
From a TV show I was watching NCIS

When I first started playing UO (on Nappa), almost all of my characters were actually named after the characters in the books I write. I had a scout named Evadrel, a crate thief/warrior named Morticai, a paladin named Camriel (even though Camriel would not make an appearance until Book 2). My books do also have some female characters in them, with more that will pop up in Book 2 ("Sagril's Tower"), so on Nappa I also had a Kithryl. [Names in my books are based off of Old Cornish and most have meanings behind them. Sometimes being an author means a *lot* of research!]

When I first came to Siege I had two charcters - Camriel [who was at that time a paladin here as well] and Skezel [street urchin/thief] - both, again, from the books. But I didn't stay long on Siege - it wasn't that I was 'run off' or anything - in fact, I was on my way to joining KSS, but other things, like Hurricane Katrina, interfered and it felt better to play on Nappa where I still knew a lot of people. There was enough "new things" in rl to not wish to add more "new things" in the game I was using to escape from watching the news. When I came back to Siege, I completely retooled Camriel into a crafter. His hair is grey and long, and so I considered him to have retired from his Paladin days. He is considering coming out of retirement, but we'll see.

The Skezel account was no more, but I had added other accounts, so I was able to add more characters - the first after Camriel being Adrianas, another female name from the books. Her full name in the books (which is rarely used) is Adrianas Teglanas of Menelcar.

Then came Morticai, but somehow, he just didn't quite "fit" this world, so he had a horrible sex/race change and became my gargoyle imbuer - Gris Gris - named not out of the books, but from the New Orleans Voodoo tradition.

I added a female ninja and did research to come up with a historical female name that they believe belonged to a rl ninja - Mariko. She was accused of being a ninja, but she was also a known pirate in our real world.

And finally, the last one I've added I did for a bit of shtick - Elvira. Based off of the television personality, she is of course a Necromancer, Mage, Mystic.

In addition to the names, I like to build my houses to match my characters' "themes." The best example is probably Elvira's house over in Termur. (I consider that she was run out of the 'old lands' and the gargoyles are more tolerant of her sorcery.) Adrianas now has an elven raised home - not quite a treehouse, but close - in GIL town. Camriel has a keep and by an odd twist of fate, Mariko also ended up with a keep - which she has decorated in fine oriental style (I was amazed how well it actually worked). And GrisGris runs the Termur Consulate in New Magincia. The npcs visit it on a regular basis and it is quite funny to pop into the game and find 2 or 3 of them sitting in the waiting room for their travel visas. In fact, if you are working the Honesty Virtue and cannot find the npc you are looking for, be certain to check the Consulate - they might be there! (It's on the southwest corner of the island.)

Blind Otto

In the far off lands of Europa, a young crafter was too stupid to realise that the realms of Fel were somewhat dangerous, and not a good place to be found mining... especially with names that sounded bold and noble. So, I chose a name that sounded harmless, non-threatening. Otto. For some strange reason, being harmless didn't do much to reduce the attacks. Funnily enough, role-play did. "You wouldn't hit a poor old man with a bad leg, would you?". A little later, Otto lost his eyesight in a tragic accident involving a novice mage, a fire elemental, and a faulty moongate that led to the lands of Siege, and arrived as Blind Otto.
It's amazing how many of Siege's darkest, vilest outlaws showed their compassionate side, when faced with the conundrum of killing an old blind miner.
You may be red, my friends, but there's good in you yet! Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. Oops.
(I still mine in the strangest of places - ancient wyrm lairs, trees full of harpies, rooms full of ratmen. Extreme mining is the only way to do it!)

When I restarted on Siege after I sold my account with my orc, I wanted to play a thief. However, I didn't want to just be another thief in the crowd, I wanted an identity. I wanted to be a thief with a conscience, so to speak. I immediately thought about the thieves that were crucified with Jesus, one on either side. One of them repented and asked Jesus for forgiveness, kind of a "kinder, gentler thief". His name was Dismas and I thought it fit perfectly. Voila.
