Hey all,

Former veteran player / stratics staffer type here looking to make a return to the game. I'm really enjoying Rift at the moment but not having a sandbox game to play leaves me feeling rather empty :) I miss UO a lot!

I haven't played UO since shortly after AOS released (I didn't quit because of AOS, I didn't mind the item changes, etc - just life got in the way) so keep that in mind for these questions. Some questions to help me get resettled in to the game:

1) What has changed since AOS? I don't expect a detailed listing of every single thing that has changed but what are the key things to know (ho ho ho - I know this is a terrible question, but I'm asking it)
2) What is the primary PVM content these days? I'm mostly a PVM content consumer (although I'm not opposed to PVP or RP)
3) As someone who is coming back starting from pretty much scratch (mudflation in both gold and gear will have me pretty much level set with a new player I imagine) what type of gear, other items, etc should I look for?
4) Any thoughts you might have on the GL shard would be appreciated (my old home! :))
5) Any thing else you feel a returning player should know

Thanks all!

A lot change. realy too much to name.

For armor you will have to go for a all 70 resist suit. With 100LRC if you are aspellcaster. If you got the SA expansion you better take on Imbuing so you can customise armor and weapon to your own liking.

People hunt everywhere,There is a lot to do. Even at sea if you have the High Seas Booster.

Better Visit Luna in Malas to find most people on your shard. And always keep general chat open to see if people doing things. :)

2) A great spot for PvM hunting is Mini Champ Spawns in the Abyss (these "champs" are Tram ruleset, not Fel). The monsters can randomly drop Essences which are ingredients used for high end imbuing and depending on the type can be quite valuable and great for resale. Essence of Order for LMC, Essence of Precision for HCI, Essence of Control for SSI. You can have fun killing the monsters, collecting some gold and knocking over the boss who has a small percentage chance of dropping an Abyss Artifact and then turn around and sell the Essences you've collected (depending on their usefulness they may go for anywhere from 10 for 100k to 10 for 750k and up).
3)To start try to find a 100%LRC all 70s suit and make sure you insure it. Because of Imbuing, metal armour is out and leather is in. Barbed leather is easily imbued into a 100%LRC all 70s suit for relatively cheap, say 200k purchase price for a 6 piece suit.
4)GL should be a good shard to play. I play LS and it's a bit under-populated but I believe Atlantic and Great Lakes have much larger populations.
