I like to find out what if people who still play UO would use an auction website (supported by adds).

So please vote what you would do :)

no
though I >might< peruse one for "pricing strategies"
I >certainly< would not promote one ...

it ain't a "good idea", nor, a new one.

you're already struck with the "shiney"(you put up a poll to elicit more "thoughts")
now
figure out what "dirt/grime" KILLED the other ones ...
is there a "craigs list" for UO items? why not?
E-Bay?

What is the reason for Stratics trade forums success?(survival)

one other note:
adds is the acronym for Attention Deficit Disorder Syndrome (which is probably what caused the thread/question ... unknown, >I ain't a doctor<)
ad's is the contraction that you were probably looking for ...
it is short for Advertisements

:scholar: Although ...
You might consider applying to TGN in acquiring a forum to >> compete with << stratics trade forums
(which are "supported" through ad fees paid to TGN )

make that a Hell No!

If I real needed to, I can just use my G15 to do that :p
But I AM NOT, since I what to keep my account in good condition (I used to use a well know scripting program on sub accounts just for script total AFK mining. But they busted me and that's another topic I not going into on Stratics).
:scholar: sorry ... once a scriptor ... damned forever ...

:lick: "sub accounts" = "sub player"

No and no. There was a UO auction site before.. it was rarely used when more people played. Now? Why bother. Most shards only have a few posts in their trading forums every week even now.

You can auction your items here in stratics (which is also supported by ads so that doesn't matter).

That's actually the best way to gauge interest. If those forums were more active, then it's another story.

Shiny, indeed.
Got me to click on it, and I haven't played UO or replied to anything here in a few months.

Anyway, there are other websites that operate "sans approval" that have prices on them, and I don't think making one that's "approved" would change people's habits. Most people would probably just refer to any approved site as their source for pricing, while just checking the old ones.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old uo-auction2 website when it was in action, I don't understand all the negativity in this post, it was a good way of trading and keeping prices real. So why would it not work again? Fair enough there are less players nowadays but that's not to say it would be a disaster.

*Shrug* oh well that's my 2 cents worth :D

very mixed messages...

(look at the vote), for some reason only people posting no are posting why.

Europa used UO Auction very very well, It had hundreds of auctions a week and I used it for some fantastic deals. But this was all before Luna. I just don't see a need for such a website anymore. :(

If I want something I'll search for it and buy it for the cheapest price getting it right away, Most people have money and are willing to spend it. Betting on something just to save a little bit seems a waste of time to me.

There is a silent auction house here on Chesapeake which is basically an auction house that runs week long auctions. Items are locked down so they can be seen and bids are left on message boards so it works essentially the same as an auction site would, but is ingame. The unique format means it doesn't really compete with "live" auctions either.

You should all get someone on your various shards to set something like that up! Community building and all that!

Actually ... the poll says some pretty specific things

A) the idea, isn't gonna bring anyone in and or back (0,1)

B) Males don't like to shop, they prefer to go to the store, get what they want and go on
C) Females love to shop, looking for sales and unique items, or just how others have displayed things ...

Men are from Mars, Women from Venus(look at the names in the vote ...)

I'm going to be in the minority as usual, but yes I'd like an uo-auction like style website.

Two reasons:
1) While we have an ingame auction every week on Europa, it's only a few items per week so as a buyer it's severely limited, and as a seller it doesn't have starting price system (all items start at 5k) so there is a high risk involved in putting very expensive items (and putting a high reserve on many items is not a practical solution as the auction organizers would surely not like to have a lot of stuff without bidders). I really like it but it's clearly a different use than what uo-auction was.

2) While, because there is no other choice left, I use as everyone the infamous search engines that shall not be named, there are many things I don't like at all about them: First the fact that beeing limited to Luna (and a few vendors in Zento and Umbra road), it does create a monopoly on those shops. As a buyer the prices are thus inflated and it's impossible to find any good deal (some people even use a bot on bots to check all good items really under market price) and as seller you have to pay a rent to place vendors, which cumulates with the ingame cost, making it basically impossible to sell anything that isn't highly sought after. Add to this the fact that non-listed shops have lost a lot of customers and basically the end result is that it has turned the entire vending system "professional", which is not my idea of fun in a game. On Europa at last it has became totally impossible to find any shop selling stuff like music gears, halloween candies, colored boards or even bods. Add to this the fact that it is intrinsequelly based on something illegal (scripting bots who check the prices) and I deeply regret the times where those search engines were not existing after all.

So again, yes, I wish there was some kind of uo-auction website back, somewhere where I could list many relatively low-turnover but not so cheap items I wish to sell without any fixed cost. I'm pretty sure it will work very well, especially if the Luna search engines are shut off (curiously I wonder why the accounts have not been banned, surely some people have complained and it's a clear violation of TOS).

Now somehow I wish it could even be ingame, but I don't think it's doable unless vendor costs are divided by 10.

They can ban the scanners account all they what, i sure they are not paying for it... All it is a randomly made toon and run to the scripts starting spot, saving the data it what it gathers to a pre-set text file in a pre-set format. (which might even be hosted on the unnamed website).

P.S. I do not script in UO, but have played about with them on websites, i guessing they work the same in the unnamed scripting program.
P.S.S. I hope I am not going into trouble for talking about this, since I know it is against the ToS of most/all online game fan sites, but I feel I needed to go into this much to get the point over on how unnamed Luna searches work.

Now somehow I wish it could even be ingame, but I don't think it's doable unless vendor costs are divided by 10.
The vendor cost is already quite cheap, I think you are on about the rental charge set by the players, they are setting their price based on what they think people will pay for a vendor at that site. Normally, next to the gate is high (500K/week) and the more away from the gate you get (north/south) the cheaper (<50K/week) it gets before a small clime back at the east side (75K/week). All prices listed are as a guide only based on what I know about the ATL server, one of the biggest ones.
