would you suggest to play uo again?

Hey everyone, I'm sorry if spelling is off posting this from my cell. I have been away from uo for about a year and getting the urge to play again. I've played since 1998 on mainly Atlantic server towards the end. I know uo has tons of problems but with all the new stuff would you suggest a come back? thanks in advance.

I don't think anyone will be able to tell you 'yay' or 'nay'. If they do, they're biased.

Honestly, I would suggest doing a trial account type thing and testing it for yourself. Some people like the changes, some don't.. personally I'm not a huge fan of how things are right now, but to each their own. Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't :)

So I'd definitely suggest the free trial, if it still works.

Thanks, I know its hard to give a yes or no answer because everyone plays different but I am glad you took the time to respond. Spending the $13 a month isn't my concern its more of is there anyone left?

I can say I only came back recently from a few month hiatus and am REALLY enjoying the game again. Imbuing has made gearing up easier then ever, while still requiring effort for the non-uber rich (collecting the ingredients/base armor). The Stygian Abyss lands are fun to play in and well designed in my opinion.

The worst you have to lose in coming back and giving the game another chance is $13 for one month so no big loss if you hate it =)

Well there are definitely still people at Luna... usually anywhere from 5 to 14 at any given time. At EM events, I'd say the average is 20 people. But probably make a post on the shard it is you used to play/intend to play and ask about the community or see if any old friends are still around. All my old friends are pretty much gone so I solo, and that suits me fine most of the time. But even if your old friends are gone you might find new ones! If you didn't moind starting afresh and didn't want the hassle, definitely do the trial. But if you wanted to resurrect your old account and poke around... no harm in that either :)

Yea my friends in game are all gone which i done mind. The problem is I would have to pay to see the new stuff. I guess it doesn't hurt to try. Going out to dinner or movie now days costs well over the.$30 cost to upgrade. What servers do you play?

I play all over really... but primarily Pac. I'd say Pac is a fairly decent shard as far as the people go. Baja is also still full of good people. Poking around on the Stratics shards forums won't give you a genuine view of what the shard activity is like though, since a lot don't use them. Gonna have to get your hands dirty and check things out ingame I think, hehe

Yea, I just hope I don't make the mistake I did when I first started lol. I ended up on oceiana. Great bunch of people but the population even a few years ago was low. Spent 2 years on there thinking that was normal on all servers lol. I got a suprise when I moved to Cats and then finally ended up on atlantic due to a guild that then went away. I just remember back in the day (I feel old when saying it) when you went to a guild meeting on friday/saturday and spent hours just talking about non-sense and spending even more hours playing the game and really getting no where lol. 10K gold was hard to get and now even being gone for over a year I have 20+ mil on my account, which isn't alot by todays standards. So can anyone give me some insight on whats so special about these new skills? I've read the info on uo site but doesn't help a whole lot. I've never really used this site much, so maybe its posted somewhere?

How could you not comeback with EAs great customer service?

If you play a prodo shard you better start duping gold to compete if not come to Siege Perilous...

I would come back, whats 30 bux? Nothin in the grand scheme.......

If ya liked it back than you`ll love it now. I`d suggest GL Atl or Pac,they seem to be the fullest if ya like population. Population is over rated for this loner so I actually prefer the smaller shards like Siege.

As for EA`s lack of customer service.....it could be worse. I`m playing Godfather 2 atm and their official boards are not even moderated anymore, even the forums are spammed with viagra ads. Lots of peaple over there swearing to wash their hands with EA for their ignorance. So when ya`ll **** and moan about lack of dev attention or no communication....... bounce over there and you`ll soon realize how good you`ve (we) got it.

I look at it like this, it is what it is. You know your playing with crap,so don`t cry when ya get it on your hands. EA is not a customer service company. They just want your money, than you can go to hell. Know this and expect it and ya won`t be suprised or pissed when they take a big dump on you!

Since day one Ultima Online has had problems but this is the multiverse of UO. If you can't find a way to be happy playing then I don't it's the games fault. There is lots to do and unless you have nothing else to do in your life, you won't even get close to doing it all. I love this game.

Yeah, I'd say come back too ... :) And I agree on the money thing, is it worth the cost of a movie and 1/2 a coke to have some solid fun? ... For me it's about the play experience. Yes I do play my own game, and no I can't find the same experience anywhere else ...

Also, I'm really looking forward to how you guys respond to the new story arc ... so "Fresh Eyes" are welcome.

Yes it is x3, I have three of eight accounts active at the moment. I'm just not always sure if playing around most of the game additions after UO:Ren is worth the hassle.

Imbuing, once I hit 120 skill, should help with hunting the over-powered 5000 hp, do 100+ hp gamage per hit, monsters of ML & probably SA. They should at least be manageable with Artificer creatable equipment.

Maybe with Imbuing all the crafting additions will become useful because we Crafters can get to the item componets without paying Luna(tic)
prices. A lot of potential fun for Crafter Players has been added in the last two expansions. Now maybe soon that potential fun can become real fun.

For me it's about the play experience. Yes I do play my own game, and no I can't find the same experience anywhere else ...
Which is what keeps me coming back. The depth of this game and particularly all the non-heavy-combat aspects of it like Crafting.

Unfortunately you have to play heavy-combat-super-uber-gear play or pay fortunes for Crafting ingredients. Which causes even break-even gear prices to be so high no one will pay it. So why craft it?

Also, I'm really looking forward to how you guys respond to the new story arc ... so "Fresh Eyes" are welcome.

And the odds of it being something more than 10,000 + hp monsters that dish out 1000 hp of damage per second are how low? :gee:

Don't make them easy just don't make them impossible. We don't have that much HP to stay alive in the first place :) 1 hit kills are never ever fun. Especially that monsters have no restrictions and no lag. Paralize,90 damage flamestrike,50 damage ebolt,100 damage phy attack against all 70's with no casting delay no movement restriction no pause all hit before I can say W!!!! Then Repeat.... Those are not fun.

Hmmm... Have you thought about maybe instead of giving monsters more and more hit points and spell damage bonuses to counter the veteran players' uber equipment, it would be much more interesting and challenging for the players if their behavior was more intelligent?

The Slasher of Veils, for example, comes with a couple of new attacks (meteor storm, well done!), but still it behaves quite predictably. I could be cynical and call it a Greater Dragon with more hit points and a different animation.

Babble exhibits failure to read first post. Terror didn't leave on purpose, it seems.

I suggest trying it out with your old account. EA likes returning players. Your house will be gone but your characters will be alive, so at least you won't have to retrain skills (unless you want to).You can also get the SA upgrade that way and check the new housing tiles, battle chickens, and all kinds of fun with imbuing. It's worth the $13.

I play Chessy, which isn't the most populous shard out there but it's alive enough that I don't know all the players' names yet! :p Atl or Europa are pretty high populations still and I guess GL is active - and Baja just got a fresh infusion of players from the dev team/community team at EA-Mythic, apparently. Plenty of housing available on the lower population shards, too. Just placed an 18x18 on Siege, and I know of a few spots near my place on Chessy!

Depending on what u did when u left last time. I know countless people who have quit because of eas inability to curve hackers and cheating. So if u mainly pvp id say dont bother. Especially on Atlantic.(yes i type this knowing about the 95% crap they spewed at us. Go look at my poll noone believes the fix will come soon)

If you mainly did pvm and stuff like that then go ahead give it a shot. There is lots of different monsters etc and imbueing has made getting your gear easier no longer a need for 100'sm for top end gear etc.

That's usually what opinions are, which is what the OP was soliciting.

Yes, your correct, I was just trying to get people's opinions, even if they are biased. I have decided to come back to UO. I understand all of UO's problems and am hopeful they will be resolved. My main reason for leaving was lack of communication between UO/EA and its players. Cal has shown me that they are at least making an attempt so I am back. :) Now all I have to do is find my debit card and hope the download doesn't take forever lol.

Very true. I take the family to the movies and its at least $60. Stop at Mcdonalds for lunch and there is another $10. So I can cut a few things to come back to a game that when I played I loved.

Absolutly not. Please save your money and buy a Wii/PS3/Xbox. You'll be much happier. All of these consoles have online game play capability so you'll be able to play with other people. The player attitude in UO is really bad. Its not like it once was, the TOS/ROC is no longer inforced. Its pretty much dog eat dog. Sorry I hate to be The negative Nancy and rain all over your parade.

YES. How long have you ever played a console game? 1 Month? 3 Months? 6 Months? I have played Ultima Online since server birth and I haven't found anything that holds my interest even with all of the changes. I have wandered off to Everquest(original),Shadowbane,DAoC, even EVE. The list goes on... but I have always returned to this special world we call UO. If its gameplay you are looking for come on back. If you want a grind with good graphics WoW may suit you better.

I don't want to offend anyone but to me grind games get boring really really fast. I had a wow account. Had my thirty days free and I canceled after the second day.

UO is the best online game ever made, in my opinion it would be wrong not to come back, lake superior has community hunts almost every night , no wow can compare.
The new stygian is great aswell.. I love a good imbuing gargoyle..;) Many new mini-champs with new bosses called "renowned". I have fun every day still..

The Cavern of the Discarded is quite wonderful... is located in the stygian dungeon, and can await several nice items on the occasion..... its very interesting also.

If you played in 1998, just using the trial account will give you access to what? 12 years worth of new content. So try the trial account and see if you have fun. If you are having fun, you could call customer service and try and get your old account back (assuming you didn't sell it or something). Then when you get to the point you're looking for something new, you can upgrade to the latest expansion.

As for whether I'd advise coming back, well I never left and I'm having more fun now than I ever did. So that's my two cents.

Oh and if you happen to visit Pacific, let me know.

I had left for over a year and played WoW's battlegrounds and arenas. I came back because WoW gets old after a while despite the fact that it does have graphics that are light-years ahead of UO's. In the end, it's not the graphics that make the game. It's the community, the world as a whole, the ability to craft stuff, the custom-made house that's your own little corner of the UO world.

I would suggest re-activating your old account for a month. Get re-acquainted with the game. If you like the new additions, you can always upgrade to SA at any time. After I came back, it was 2 months before I decided to upgrade to SA; I spent a solid month just walking around the old dungeons and traveling the land; I had forgotten a lot of neat stuff. UO has a huge world, after all. There was always plenty to do, even before T2A.

Since your shard is Atlantic, it's still just as packed as ever. You will have a hard time finding an empty house spot if you want anything bigger than an 8x8. However, somebody advertised a 12x16 in Fel for under a million last night. If your characters are pretty well developed, you can earn that much in just a few hours.

I would...simply to have some more people around cause it feels so lonely in UO...so empty.

sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lonely...

It's funny cause online it seems i'm socialy retarted while irl i'm a lot more social and it was even my fulltime job to talk to strangers and convince them to buy some stuff.
