Would this work for UO?

This is a link to an article (on ArsTechnica) about what EA may be doing to the Tiger Woods game on consoles. It also references other efforts of a similar nature.

The basic premise is this: You are allowed to download the game client for free - and even play for free in a limited basis.

BUT ... and that is a big BUT ... if you want extras you need to pay ala carte or subscribe (pay) for a certain amount of credits good in the game.

Sooooo, what if we apply this to UO. Would it work? Example - and here's a good one from bygone days - buying an extra house. We already can buy extra characters, extra storage, premade characters and more. Why not?

EA has discouraged the use of "brokers" to obtain your gold. What if we could get 10mil for US$4.99 or something - through and from EA themselves? Okay - everyone would be an instant billionaire. <shrug>

I need 100K Iron ingots and just don't want to spend that huge amount of time digging them up myself - I refuse to script or allow anyone I know to script!!! But EA charges US$2.50 per 20K on a deed. Would you pay US$12.50 for 100K Iron ingots - or ANY ingots? No price differential just 'cause it's Valorite. Okay, everyone now has unlimited supplies, why go forage? <shrug>

There are some things that MIGHT be good in doing ala carte UO ... and examples of how it could unbalance things even more.
= = =

Could someone show how these or any other possible ala carte setups COULD work with UO?

Anyone?

Also, would YOU actually like UO to shift to something like this or leave it as-is with perhaps additions to the store instead?

You're describing RMT, and we already have it on a limited basis in the UO store with Game Codes for rare items, advanced characters, transfer tokens, etc., just not for raw materials or gold..

Honestly? I wouldn't have a problem with it, but it's a hot-button issue.

In all honesty, I don't think I'd have an issue either and would probably take advantage if things appealed to me. I used 2 Adv Char purchases to simplify skill gains on a couple characters (resist, magery) and muled the character that I used.

Hot buttons? Yep - this is certainly one. With all the argumentative and opinionated players here I would have thought more than just you would have responded **somehow** by now. <shrug>

I have a few names (yours included) I really would like to have a response from - simply because I respect their opinions ... thanks

Hi there,

Re-vamp the store(working order) put in some things just Not resources.

Housing sets, updated game disks(no major patching) tok dyes and items like that are things I would like to see.

I agree ... that's why I'm asking for more ideas in addition to the ones I spouted. Updated game disks **might** go away (the need) because of a free client that could easily be updated/patched when you accessed it - much like today.
