Higher skill will yield higher damage, but the real key to WoD is when you can cast it. Before the monster has dropped below a certain percentage of it's health, all you will see is the low damage you are seeing as energy damage. Without a focus you have to wait till the monster is almost at 0% health before you will see the huge damage, and each level of focus will raise that by 5% (meaning each level of focus you can start 5% sooner).

So it goes like this:

Focus Percentage before effective
0 <5%
1 <10%
2 <15%
3 <20%
4 <25%
5 :heart:0%
6 :heart:5%

So if you get a level 5 focus you still have to beat the monster down to 1/4 health before the WoDs will be effective.

Ok so how do you get a focus? I know it has something to do with standing in an arcane circle, right? I've not done this .. do you stand there for 5 minutes? or ... ?

Arcane Circle - Myrshalee
Mana Cost: 24
Minimum Skill Needed: 0.1
Casting Delay: 0.5
Duration: 1-5 hours (Skill Level Real / 240, minimum 1) (+1 hour per additional arcanist)
Area of Effect: Caster and up to 5 other arcanists standing within an arcane circle.

The caster and up to four participating arcanists must stand inside an arcane circle. When the caster invokes this spell, a magically charged emerald (called an arcane focus) is created for the caster and each participating arcanist. The arcane focus increases duration, spell damage, healing spell effectiveness, and area of effect for the activator’s Spellweaving spells.
