Will UO be history if duping methods are made known en mass?

Just curious, what if one fine day, some disillusioned/disgruntled/bored duper were to go around UO forums boards, register an account, and list out a step-by-step, dupe-all-you-can exploit?

Sure, the forum boards can ban/delete the post. Can always register a new account the next day and post again, no?

Come to think of it, is this why the dupers are not dealt with a heavier blow by the devs all along? Making duping methods known to the common player base seems like a very big stick to hold against the devs from being too 'drastic' and 'enthusiastic' about bannings, dont u think? Far-fetched? Conspiracy theory? Perhaps. Status quo remains feasible as long as the monthly subscriptions from the player base keep coming in.

On the other hand, would this finally wake the devs up about dealing with weak, outdated, 10-year-old program codes that is the baggage of UO?

Thoughts, anyone?

Presumably, the reason this has never happened is that the exploits that have been reported to the devs were fixed in short order.

Those people who decided to make personal use of exploits would only be doing themselves out of a good business if they were to publicly post their methods.

Bomb Bloke, you would be mistaken on that one. Not very long ago there was a poster who was tired of the dupe not being fixed who released it for everyone to try. They even posted the method twice, and the dupe did not get fixed till roughly a month later. (The poster even mentioned turning in the bug a month earlier only to be told "what bug...what dupe?")

People seem to forget or just dont know that the Devs are at a job. They cant stop everything they are doing just because of some problems (dupes/bugs/exploits). It may take a while to get things fixed. Its code they are working with...not a "stop this" button.

Some people seem to think that there are people that just sit around waiting for problems to fix. It doesnt work that way. They work 9-5. Stop being so critical.

There is a fine line between being on the job and letting things fall between the cracks. (at the time the main concern seemed to be fixing issues with KR instead of fixing the errors which lead up to the dupe...which btw popped up one at a time over a year period)

IMO that line hasnt been crossed.

They catch and ban the dupers when time permits. Ive seen it done many times.

If that doesnt fit your timeframe....EA/Mythic might be accepting applications. Show em how its done! (Not the dupe...but how to fix it)

They dropped the ball...thats all I was saying. When a poster has to come here and post up a dupe because of failed communications with EA to force a solution, something is most def. wrong.

Again, a whole month passed and the main bug person didnt even have a clue about the submission to their department. ONE....WHOLE....MONTH.

I guess my question to you would be, what IS a reasonable time frame to fix a game stopping dupe?

BTW...I personally dont care if they stop the dupers, fix the issue behind it. Those who dupe use junk accounts from a jacked wireless for the most part...so banning them does very little good. (noob accounts + free wireless = mad loot with no worries)

Its not an attack on you.

Im just saying they work a regular job just like you and I. So maybe it takes a month to fix it. No biggie. Its a game.

It takes microsoft longer to fix exploits that can actually affect people IRL. Stealing personal info, CC numbers, etc.

If people want to dupe gold, etc., how does that matter to me? I dont buy those things. I dont shop in luna. Honestly, It doesnt affect me in any way. They will get cought. They will get banned. Hell, there are many others that are rich legit and it still doesnt affect me. I play how I play...I dont need others to dictate my outcome.

There's a big difference between catching/banning dupers and fixing the exploits that allow dupes.

If provided with the steps to carry out a dupe, I see no reason why the devs should be working on other projects until that issue is fixed.

What you all fail to realize is they have to search through a bunch of code to find how the dupe is working....... then they have to write up a fix for said dupe..... and THEN it must be tested over and over to be certain as they can that the fix isn't worse than the disease. They can't just patch in a fix and forget it.... the fix has to work, has to not break something else..... and can't crash the game. (And this is coming from someone who's Computer illiterate!)

So yes it might take a month to push out a "fix"..... might take more if they can't find exactly what is allowing the dupe or a good way to break it without causing more trouble and greatly disrupting game play or gods forbid forcing them to take away from our game....

Could you imagine if the fix caused us not to be able to ever recall or gate? But it was a "fix" so they took that out of the game???? Imagine how ticked off everyone would be... though I think it would be awesome... but just think about it.

Yes it's possible for someone to get all bored or whatever and post some major dupe... though I would just hope that anyone who knew of a dupe would report it.
