I know this horse has been probably beat to death but with the low population and no one really hunting there, would it really hurt to open it up for marking runes? I wish I could make one of those cool poll thingies I see. What does everyone else think??

I agree. It's accomplishing nothing and, with the recent BoS changes, it is making Illshenar a much less viable place to hunt as opposed to other Trammel-based areas due to the inability to easily bank items and return to your hunting spot.

If anyone could actually point out positives for keeping it in the game, I'd love to hear them. You originally couldn't recall in order to encourage people to scout the lands. Does this really still apply all these years on? Why is it the only facet in which this rule was enforced?

Take care.

never should have been no recall in the first place - it's the kinda thing games like WoW do - I'm not interested in playing WoW (mainly because they make you walk everywhere and 90% of your time isn't spent playing ... it's spent walking)

There gates all around Ilshenar. So if you use the right gate is not that far of a walk/run to anywhere.

So what? That's not what the OP asked is it.

While I won't comment on the suggestion, largely because I think it makes sense either way and is defensible either way, I must object to the notion that no one hunts there.

Even if you don't count the Twisted Weald, I actually see people there a fair amount!

I can start at Brit bank and be at any location in Ilshenar within two minutes without casting a single spell. If the lack of recall keeps you from hunting, you suck.

having a part of the world no-recall means better group experience in my opinion, and less newbs. imagine if people could just gate in a party to any peerless drop zone :p? that would bite. nothing in Ilsh is hard to get to, really, and anything which takes awhile to get to is worth the trip. recalling is awesome, but it is also one of the worst abilities granted, in my opinion, when it comes to PvP, when a person can just wimp out and recall away. I like how on Siege you have to Gate.

No. Only thing they need to do to Illsh is add more content to it. Change out the paragon artis once in a while for cripes sake.

Hold it hold it.

No need for the WoW bashing here. I might turn that around and say "The no recalling in WoW is the kinda thing that OSI / EA did in Illsh."

No recall in Illsh (and elsewhere) was around waaaaaaaaaay before Wow beta even opened.

I agree. I don't spend much time in Ilshenar because I don't want to waste my playing time trying to get to my destination.

No. I like it how it is. It's the last frontier for adventurers and questers, and a fun place to travel and hunt as it is. If I lead my guild on a hunt in Ilshenar, usually we can make a good adventure of it by fighting whatever crosses our path on the way to our destination.
With paragons, the chances of running into something challenging actually exists and can make it pretty exciting.
On the other hand, if I wanted to hunt by myself in Ilshenar, I can usually get wherever I want to in about two minutes by running.

I wish they would return all the dungeons to being unmarkable, and if they add more land in a future expansion I hope it's also unmarkable territory.

I'd be OK with being able to mark runes to overland areas. I'm fairly indifferent on this topic, though.

I'll throw in my 2gp. I say leave it as it is. I can recall out which is fine and it leaves my hunting spots preaty much all for me because most peeps are too lazy to walk/run from a moongate to the hunting grounds.

I have to disagree. Recalling everywhere seems more like star trek then a mythical fantasy game. To me it takes away the sense of adventure and just makes the world smaller. Ilshenar is the last place in UO to have an adventure because you have to make a Journey. I rather sacrifice convenience to have some place to truly adventure.

...

Absolutely NOT.

Ilshenar is fine the way it is. The moongates are reasonably close to any destination, the hunting is varied enough, and the facet is supposed to have a little bit of extra challenge (in a PvE setting).

If you can't get to any place in Ilshenar without Recalling, you don
t need to be in Ilshenar. As for the BoS thing, same thing. Either Recall out and run back, or find a place near a gypsy camp (which have banks as well and tend to be MUCH closer to profitable areas than other facets).

NEVER allow Marking in Ilshenar!

Wow I'm surprised at how many folks want Ilsh the way it is. I just hate running back and forth to bank. I hunt there quite often even though I can't mark but still would be easier. I guess I am just lazy. But I'll be the first to admit that. Recalling is such a UO thing now. Well if there was a poll, I guess it would be a good 2-1 to keep Illsh the same. Oh well, can't blame a guy for trying.

The thing is that they've already changed Ilsh a couple of times to accommodate players, first with LBR and then by allowing Recall OUT of Ilsh (used to be NO recall in either direction, AND 3d client only, then No Recall, now no Mark, but Recall out).

I've always seen Ilsh as a more "advanced" facet, and thus the lack of desire to see it Markable.

Please leave Ilsh alone, and remove the recall out while you're at it. Ilsh is probably the last untainted frontier.

As to WoW... err... I actually think I get to see much more of the game and meet more people by not being able to instaport wherever I want, and it's not like travel is long, boring, or tedious in the game.

In UO, it's FAR too convenient.

There are flight paths (i.e. expedited travel) that used to take up to 15 minutes in WoW. You can travel the entire circuit of Ilshenar in that amount of time IGNORING the moongates.

The comparison just doesn't stand.

[/ QUOTE ]In fairness, I wasn't the one making the comparison. And while that may have been the case, I'm fairly sure that Moonglade to Silithus and/or Eversong to Booty Bay are the longest flight paths... and yeah, they probably are still quite long, but then, there are quicker ways to Booty Bay, and I'm not sure why anyone would be flying frequently from Moonglade to Silithus.

Point being that Ilshenar is quite fine the way that it is, and that there's no reason to be putting the last facet into Easy Mode.

Variety is the spice of life.

Some areas should be easy to reach.
Some areas should be tricky.
Some areas should be hard.

Ilsh hotspots are tricky. Personally, I'd prefer there were a few isolated continents or lands that required a serious investment of time/resources to reach (even if it is low risk). At the moment, only character transfers really fill that niche, but that's actually a little too steep for me.

So marking runes and recall to the spots everywhere you want and using the gates to get everywhere you want is not the same?

I think my answer ust fits right with the question.

You don't need runes to get everywhere in Ilshenar, unless you scared to run into a few Paragons before you reach your destination.

Ilshenar is a pretty big area, but I think it is good for there to be no gate/no recall areas in the game, for interest & variety.

Having said that, the problem is Ilshenar needs updated content, and special incentive to "bother" to go there. The dungeons and some of the creatures & special areas such as the gypsy camps, and other "attackable" NPC villages in Ilsh are interesting but there really isn't much to DO there, which is pretty much a problem throughout the game. (The puzzles around Blackthorn's Castle are neat - I wish there were more things like that around, but ironically they made the spawn so intense in that whole area - on Siege at least - good luck getting to the puzzles to play them, and with the paragon efreets that always seem to camp the entrance to the passage to get to that area, even funnier if your char is not a tamer or other PvM optimized type). The paragons really were not the content Ilsh needed IMO. The areas where the champ spawns run 24/7 and barf them out constantly are plain annoying.

The design of WoW flight paths is that before your char can use them, it has to actually get there on foot. So exploring is required and adds to the game.

Since I've been back their have been whole lands that were added and I've never seen cause I can just use marks to skip them. Sosaria is massive and IMO, 80% of the terrain is wasted because people don't have to explore or travel.
