Why kill Giant turkey eggs?

When I find a nest I usually see three eggs and a leather pouch. I check the pouch to see how many items are in it without opening it. I then kill the giant eggs and check the pouch again. No change. Still the same amount of items. So why kill the eggs?

Only reason I have seen is you have a chance of getting a plucked turkey.

It's part for the loot possibility... and part for the story line. Every egg destroyed is an egg that doesn't hatch. I believe the point is to clear all the Turkeys out...

In a related note, sometimes I take the items out of the bag and as soon as I recall/Secred Journey out of the location I realize I forgot to check for/destory giant turkey eggs; i'll try to get back to the nest but sometimes vanishes before able to get to it.

But yeah, I think destroying the giant turkey eggs is for the most part, role playing.

4/6 plucked turkeys I have had have come as a pack drop after cracking the eggs. I have only had 2 off killing turkeys.

I have 'cleared' 309 nests.

Check the ground aswell as mine appeared where i broke the egg on the ground and not in my pack. I wasn't overloaded either.
