Sound like perhaps someone created an account and was using a bot to send PMs

I tend to delete PM's such as this as one never knows when the link will contain a Trojan virus or keylogger.

Good advice

No more of these will be sent from this username, but it really is a good habit to just delete PM's like this straightaway.

Ugg.... Don't post those links on the forums just edit them out. Inform the mods but don't post the links!

Considering the number of times that folks have had their accounts stolen by visiting bogus websites is still suprises me that Stratics even allows links to be posted in the forums.

Removing all links from being posted on the forums...? That's a terrible solution and would do much more harm than good. What needs to be done is for people to take some responsibility and educate themselves on the finer points of when and when not to click a link or visit a website. It's been stressed for years and years, not just here, but everywhere - don't visit links unless you're sure that they go where they say (confirm by glancing down at your status bar in your browser) and making sure it comes from a trusted source.

For example... http://uo.stratics.com - Says Stratics in the link, goes to UO.com instead. If you hover over the link, a quick glance down at the status bar at the bottom of your browser window (IE users can click View > Status bar in their menu at the top of the screen to turn this on) will show you the real destination you're going to.

Internet security starts with the user themself and shouldn't be made the responsibility of the Web sites you visit.

If a person asks a question here on the forums, you need the ability to link them around to get that information. Having those links sent via PMs would mean 1 person could potentially get 20+ different PMs in response and does not encourage discussion nor participation on the forums and is inefficient at best. We certainly police things and do take responsibility on a case by case basis when we are made aware of a situation, such as in this case where it was handled by an administrator. But, according to the rules of content you agreed to when you signed up:

RIGHTS OF STRATICS / DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY

Stratics is a distributor only (and not a publisher) of its interactive community. The content is supplied by Participant with occasional responses from Stratics. Stratics shall not be responsible for policing, monitoring, or editing such content, exercises no more editorial control over such content than would a public library, bookstore, newsstand, or other distributor of content, and accordingly, shall not be responsible for exercising editorial control over such content. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Stratics shall have the right, but not the obligation, to monitor such content in order to respond to or comment upon communications by Participants and in order to determine compliance with the foregoing Rules of Conduct. Stratics shall have the right and sole discretion to edit, to refuse to port or to remove any content whatsoever which it finds to be in violation of the provisions hereof or which it finds in its sole discretion to be otherwise objectionable for any reason.

The opinions expressed in the message boards are not necessarily (and in some cases not at all) those of Stratics. Stratics is not responsible for any materials provided by users which are deemed harmful or offensive to others. As you can see, all of your questions are answered there. In regards to Stratics staffmembers posting links, the bolded section covers that. However, if you do see a reporter or moderator abusing this, please inform an admin right away with an email to [email protected] - Our staffmembers are volunteers, and to borrow a phrase, only human. We all have our own opinions and have just as much right to share them as you, so long as it stays within the confines of the RoC and is not a conflict of interest which would be ultimately up to the administrators of these forums to decide.

I posted this message as a 'heads up' for everyone should others also find the message in their mail box. I would have said more about deleting such mail but hoped the replies and your quick response would take care of the matter for all to see and learn from. Thank you.

Well you also took a suspect link and put it out in the public forum. Now everyone is exposed to it... maybe you should consider editing your original post and removing the link?

Of course, it's their own fault if they follow it...

No, clue, I know I didn't. I'm too fly for that crap. I sent him a polite PM the first time saying, Im not interested don't do it again, the second cloned PM from him arrived ten minutes later and I was far less polite, telling him to F**k off or else. *shrug*
